A.N. Remember how I said this would be a short fic? Well, I already have at least six chapters planned out for this story. I read all your reviews and I got excited. Don't judge me, I love these two characters!
Yes, they will all have cheesy, romantic fluff.
For the record, I have never been in any sort of romantic relationship before, so I apologize in advance if anything that follows in this chapter and future chapters is unrealistic in any way. (Other than the whole demons and angels kinda/sorta/not really co-existing thing, lol.)
I knew someone was out to kill me. It was just who, when and where that I had to find out. It was pretty obvious that my killer would be a demon, but that didn't exactly help me with my search since there are thousands, probably even millions of demons residing in the Demonic Lands.
As luck would have it, I found her.
Her name was Marinette. A name suitable for a princess.
This is how we met:
"Immune to angel magic, huh?" I heard Kim, or I suppose 'Dark Cupid' say to her with a voice that he used when trying to sound intimidating. Admittedly, it was a little frightening the first few times. After that, it got old pretty fast. "Let's get her, guys!"
I was hiding behind some foliage along the border forest. as a closer look, I noticed that it wasn't just Kim, but also Max and Alix who were ganging up on someone. Their names while in 'Akuma mode' as I called it were 'Gamer' and 'Timebreaker' respectively. At least their names while in Akuma mode line up with their talents or unique powers in some way. Kim was notorious for sabotaging relationships of all kinds (romantic, platonic, you name it) and could hear as well as control the thoughts and actions of any plants, animals and living beings he wanted whenever he wanted. Yes, big surprise, plants have feelings too. Max was a fantastic... well, gamer, heck he's one of the top champions back in the angel lands. His power was the ability to shapeshift himself and change the appearance of other objects and beings. Alix was a whizz on rollerblades had one of the fucking coolest special abilities any angel could have: Time Manipulation.
I absolutely hated my Akuma name. 'Chat Blanc'. No one chooses their Akuma name. They're given one. I honestly have no idea why I was given the title of 'Chat Blanc'. If I could choose my own name, I would be Chat Noir instead. Black cats represent destruction and bad luck in countless stories and myths, and I thought the irony would be funny. But I was one of the leaders of the angelic army, so I had that going for me.
My special ability was repairing inanimate objects and healing living plants and beings.
Granted, there are a few abilities common among many angels. Flight for example (obviously), and teleportation. Then there's the extreme sensitivity to cold temperatures, which is a pretty damn big weakness if you ask me. I could feel the air growing colder and colder. I don't know how much longer I'd be able to stay out here, especially since tonight was the coldest night of the year. I know for a fact this dumb cloak wouldn't keep me warm enough.
I saw them get closer to her. She was tied up and her wings were flailing in an attempt to free herself. Her face had fear and pain written all over it, most likely by the tight restraints around her wrists, ankles and torso and also the fact that she knew she was about to be killed. I felt my heart sink at the sight. I was almost close to crying myself, but that quickly became anger. Tears were visibly flowing down her cheeks as Kim shouted "Ready" to Max and Alix.
I drew my own knife and lounged towards him, cutting off (pun intended) his next command.
"Fi-" was all he said before the silver blade entered his back. Max and Alix immediately knelt in front of me as soon as they spotted me. I made sure my hood was low enough so the demon girl wouldn't see my face through the white fabric. I ordered the Akumas to leave, and they fled without saying a word. Kim was still coughing on the ground. I picked him up by the back of his neck and turned him so he would see my face.
"It'll heal, but I hope now you know to think twice before pulling this shit, again, Kim." I said to him with a hiss in my voice, recalling the other times he had tried to kill wandering demons coming a little too close to the angelic lands instead of making them turn around or capturing them while harming them as little as possible.
"Y-Yes," he coughed. I threw him to the ground, but he teleported away inches before his body hit the ground.
The demon looked at me with the worst kind of astonishment I thought was possible. I didn't intend to have her fear me, and I knew I had to do something to make her less so. I took the same bloodied knife and used it to cut the branches of the tree that held her down. She collapsed to the forest floor and immediately started rubbing her wrists. next to her foot was a small dagger. I recognized the gleam of it in the setting sun beyond the trees. The blade was enchanted. So she was my killer the whole time.
Kim must have known that and tried to kill her before she had the chance to kill me.
But she was hurt. In that moment, I couldn't care less if she was meant to kill me. I knelt down next to her and took her hands into mine. I removed my gloves and gently pressed my thumbs over the bright red marks on her inner wrists. I let go, and she immediately began to observe her healed skin. While she was distracted, I brought my attention to her bare feet, where the same marks were forming around her tarsals. I healed them quickly by touching the marks gently.
Another red line was wrapped around the front of her neck. I was reluctant at first, but I placed my hands on the injured skin, nonetheless. Her skin was warm, and I felt cold as the temperature continued dropping. I could feel her tensing up, so I cupped her cheeks and used my magic to relax her. It seemed to be working. I quickly pulled away so I could see her more clearly. In that moment, I didn't care if she knew what I looked like.
Her long hair stretched down to the top of her back and stopped just above her wings. They were textured like leather, and were shaped similar to a bat, but not quite. They were dark blue like her hair where the bones were and they slowly grew lighter in their hue as they traveled downwards. Her hair gleamed as it caught the final light of day almost too perfectly. Her eyes were blue as well, but lighter like the tips of the precious limbs that sprouted from her back. She had skin that was slightly paler than mine, but flawless even when covered in sweat and traces of dirt on her face and body. Her white tank top had a simple flower design across the collar. She had a brown jacket tied around her waist and pink capris pants that stopped just below her knees, and as I said before, she had no shoes.
She wore an expression of shock and what seemed like confusion on her face as she looked at me. I spoke before the silence outstayed its welcome.
"Are you alright? I hope the Akumas didn't hurt you too much."
"No, they didn- wait, Akumas?" she asked, "you mean the hunters that just tried to kill me?"
"Yeah," I responded. I stood up and gestured my hand towards her. She took it, and I pulled her up with more strength than she was clearly expecting. But in her defense, she was a bit petit.
"You're light, Princess," I said with a chuckle.
"Uh, thank y..." she trailed off, seeming to be more confused than before.
"Hmm? Did you say something?" I asked.
"Uh, y-yeah. Um, thank you, ah..." she trailed off again, clearly acting as if she didn't know my name. Even though I knew it was just a facade, I still decided to play along.
"Adrien," I finished for her. "Call me Adrien."
"O-Okay," she stuttered. The unannounced breeze that suddenly came in was icy. I shivered and pulled the cloak closer to my body. The demon, however, seemed to be unaffected. I don't know much about demon magic, so I was unsure if that was a common trait or is this one in particular had skin of iron when it came to cold temperatures.
"Are you cold?" she asked.
"A little I guess, but I'll manage."
"Tonight's the coldest night of the year-"
"I said I'm alright!" I snapped. I immediately regretted saying it like that, so I made sure to fix my tone on the next sentence. "I appreciate the concern, but-"
"Here," she cut in. She held out her hand and a glowing orange sphere began to form about an inch above it. It flickered a bit, but after a few seconds, it stayed bright and remained a sphere. I was captivated by it. I didn't notice she was coming closer to me until she already got about three steps in.
"What is that?" I asked cautiously.
"It'll help keep you warm, at least for a little while," she assured. With one more step, she reached at about her eye level to my chest. She moved my cloak aside with one hand and then carefully pressed the hand with the spell over my heart. I could feel it quicken while her hand was there, but it left as soon as it came.
The effect the spell had was vastly different. First the cold seemed to be replaced by a burning sensation, causing me to gasp in response, but it quickly decreased in intensity. The next thing I knew was that I suddenly couldn't feel the chill of the wind. It felt like my whole body was close to a campfire, and that same fire stayed with me wherever I went. I didn't know what to expect when she cast that spell, but this was definitely the best possible outcome.
"Are you alright? I'm sorry if it hurt, I didn't mean-"
"No, no. It's alright. I guess I was a bit chili after all," I chuckled, trying to lighted the mood. "Thank you, ... ah...," I silently asked for her name in the same way she asked for mine a few minutes ago.
"Marinette," she said. "My name is Marinette."
"That's a beautiful name," I replied. I took notice of the small patch of pink across her nose that I didn't notice before, but had a strong feeling that it wasn't from the sunset that was almost gone at this point.
"I do hope our paths cross again." I took her hand again and softly kissed on her knuckles. Her cheeks changed from the light shade of pink to almost magenta. I knew for a fact that it wasn't from the sunset now, as it had just descended behind the rolling hills.
"...Uh... yeah. Me too." Our conversation ended, and I began walking back the Angelic Lands. I teleported into my bedroom where I could finally shed the annoying cloak that did absolutely nothing to protect me from the bitterness of the weather.
I still felt her spell in me for the rest of the night and into the following morning, where the ground was blanketed with the most magnificent snow. But even after the spell wore off, he knew that a piece of her stayed with him.
A.N. Ok, I was really excited to get this story started, and that's why this chapter is up so soon. I don't have an upload schedule, so I won't make any promises on what days I'll upload a new chapter.
Also, this is the only chapter that will be from Adrien's perspective. From here on out, it will be from Marinette's point of view.
In case you're wondering: Yes, the Miraculouses will occur in the story, but for a different purpose than in the show. ;)
See ya in chapter three!
