XXVII. Face of the Faceless
Hazel had enjoyed the large feast that had followed the end of the Second Titans War.
She'd also quickly realized it was the perfect moment to give the apple that still sat in her Inventory back to her rightful owner.
Juno wasn't quite as scary as she'd feared, for a goddess renowned for hating half-blood. Serious, sure, but not scary.
She watched the daughter of Pluto approach her with an eyebrow raised, but smiled kindly as she fumbled to explain how she'd stumbled on the golden fruit, who just didn't want to leave her alone after.
"Brave, and honest." she mused with a pleased smile "Did you know that while stealing my apples is a favorite past-time of my children, in truth, they have no effect if they aren't freely given?"
Hazel stumbled, stunned at the affirmation – after all, stealing the golden apple was indeed a recurring quest given by godly parents to their children…
"It's a test of skills, and daring," the goddess explained "But without my permanent authorization to eat the fruits, the skin of those apples wouldn't even break under their teeth."
Hazel couldn't help but smile at the image it called to her mind – just like the goddess did.
"Still, my tree was born from mother earth's powers, and as such, it can also have its own mind." Juno's hands wrapped around Hazel's own, closing them around the fruit "If this came to you, it was for a reason."
Hazel's mind went to her sister, still asleep in the depths of Hell – but how to feed an apple to a goddess in a coma?
"Though people tend to it simply eat them, I also use my apples in numerous ways." Juno concluded before starting to drift toward Hestia "Cooked, in juice, but also in potpourri or as house fragrance."
Hazel's eyes widened – since the goddess was already gone, she sent a prayer of thanks mentally, and went to find Adra.
The very next day, while the reconstruction was underway, the two of them – and Nico – were in a potion laboratory lent by Hecate, in the depths of Hell.
The apple gave but a few, deep golden, shimmering drops, that were swiftly dripped in an essential oil diffuser.
The three of them immediately felt the air change in the room, and power starting to gather around the unconscious goddess. Hades and Persephone were soon joining them in the room, as the power kept growing.
Then, there was a cute, familiar groan, and Bianca was opening her eyes, stretching languidly, as if she was simply waking from a long night. Her eyes widened as she realized she had an audience.
"Er… Hi?"
The next moment, she had her arms full of not only her siblings, but Adra, and even Hades and Persephone.
A bit surprised, but enjoying the attention too, she asked "What happened?"
"What happened? What happened is that you were reckless and nearly died!" Nico castigated her – his older sister didn't take umbrage of it, knowing it was only worry that made him lash out
She tilted her head, suddenly realizing that – she knew what her siblings were feeling, and even, thought to a lesser extent, what Adra, Hades and Persephone were.
"That would be your Soul Art." Adra was the one to indicate
Eyes wide, Bianca finally gave her attention to the multitude of notifications crowding her Interface.
"I've… I'm…"
"A goddess." Hades was the one to confirm
"A rather powerful one, at that." Persephone added, rather impressed
Bianca had been, rather understandingly, overwhelmed – be it by her new status, and powers, or by the sheer number of things that had happened during the year she'd spent asleep – not to mention the fact that she now had quite a bit of Namtar and Ereshkigal's memories, the only reason why her own mortal personality hadn't been erased under the sheer weight of their millennia of experience, due to the fact both had been nearly faded.
She'd elected to stay in Hell for now, while she got used to her powers, and how to both use them or reign them in – though of course she assured Hazel and Nico that they'd be the first to know as soon as she felt up to a visit to the mortal world.
Adra had also informed that she had a realm waiting for her – Kur had been cleansed, and had partially repaired itself, clearly attuning itself to the young goddess, something the child of Hades was rather happy to learn, given how furious both Ereshkigal and her right hand had been at the place's desecration by Nergal.
The incarnate goddess was also rather happy to note that Bianca was firmly attuned to chaos – while far too often, gods had difficulties to combine the duties of chaos and death, she had no doubt that, just like Anubis, Bianca would rise to the challenge successfully.

The reparations in New York done, quite a bit of half-bloods had visited their family – and the clan was hosting a full house, as friends and family from all around were staying home for the week to celebrate.
Adra, like most of the locals half-bloods and quite a few wixen, had dropped by the ministry to pass the exam for a wartime hitwitch license.
Thankfully, there had been no further trouble from Voldemort, though of course, the wixen knew better than to hope it meant the man was gone again.
There were no longer any children playing alone outside, as the British magicals had promptly reverted to the same wartime measures they used a decade earlier, always having an adult with any underage child, teaching even the youngest some defensive spells, or simply how to run away, and so on…
The atmosphere at the yearly gathering for Adra's birthday was happy, but far from the light-hearted vibes from the previous year.
Rather unsurprisingly, there had been an impressive amount of gods dropping by under a mortal guise, some more successful than others – Thor had made surprising progress, but it was still impossible to mistake him for anything but a Norse god; while Xolotl was clearly unused to the British wixen, yet quite at ease in the mortal world itself.
Despite the shade of Voldemort – or perhaps because of it – the party had been a resounding success, be it on the more boring yet essential political side, or later on, simply as a good moment to enjoy with friends and family.
There had been quite a few pregnancy announces, which had only added to the festive mood – all of them a direct consequence of the Hunt that had happened barely a month before…
There was wonder in Luna's eyes, as she watched the still flat stomach of her mother – despite her seer gift, this was something she really hadn't expected to come true, hampered by the last dredges of the trauma of her mother's death in a previous life.
She hugged Adra tightly, a whispered 'thank you' conveying all that she couldn't put to words – as for Sadie, she was all but bragging about finally not being the youngest Kane! The Weasley siblings had eyes their parents suspiciously, but Molly had quickly affirmed that she wasn't among the expecting mother – seven children, nine with the incarnate Egyptians, was more than enough for her, and she really didn't think herself up to raise a tenth one.
The Longbottom were among the happily expecting parents too, both of them ecstatic as they hadn't managed to give a sibling to Neville in all those years, and feared it was yet another consequence of the curse that had nearly destroyed their lives, a decade earlier.
The party had also been the occasion for Adra to formally welcome Set to her family, as the god had finally taken her on her offer – becoming Daemon Moon, Heir of the House of Moon.
The god had been startled – as with Adra adopting him not only in magic, but in blood too, she had effectively named him next in line to inherit her family, but the incarnate goddess hadn't listened to any of his protestation, telling him he was free to pass the title to one of her children later on if he wished so.
Daemon had rolled his eyes, and stopped protesting – while it really wasn't conventional to name a god to a mortal position, given that both of them were incarnate, he guessed it really wasn't that bad.
Besides – he had to admit, if only to himself, that the title; as symbolical as it was given that Adra had a rather long life-span in her current, half-spirit mortal body; still gave him a warm feeling of acceptance his own family hadn't given him for millennia.
¤.¤.¤
Finally, after a long day and evening of celebration, Adra had gone to sleep, only to wake up in the familiar forest between realms where the Guardian Spirits of the old wixen families resided…
The fifth rite was reputedly more tiring than the previous ones – as it gave the first power boost to the young wixen – but Adra wasn't too worried, having already gone through the far more intensive Heir and Head Rites…
She greeted the silvery creatures amicably, noticing that quite a bit of them were far less translucent, and more solid than they had been.
"By giving us the opportunity to grow our families once more, you've given us back some power too." a nearby charadre explained to her, the white raven a spirit she didn't even know to which family belonged
"I'm the guardian of the Lewis." he explained, a smile heard in his voice "My last descendant had all but given up on continuing the family when you introduced him to the lovely water child that became his wife." a happy crow "And now, a new little one will soon join our family again."
The incarnate goddess smiled, listening to similar stories from numerous ethereal creatures who'd already felt the numerous new souls that would come to life in a few months. This was one side effect of the Hunt she honestly hadn't expected, thought she couldn't say she minded!
Finally, she turned her attention to Chaos Game, acknowledging the familiar notification.

She took the time to unlock the Ravenclaw and Lovegood Aura, and a few perks that had been added to her list since the end of the Titanomachy – namely the Laistrygonian Giant's Tattoo and Veteran of the Titanomachy – before stepping out of the dream realm, and back to sleep.
The rest of the summer was comparatively calm, the clan usual flow of activity not interrupted by unexpected fights nor large-scale battles.
Of course, it didn't mean that they suddenly stopped caring about the potential conflicts going on.
Loki was often out on the hidden paths between the nine realms, trying to guess and Surtr and Hrym's next move.
He'd already checked on Naglfar's usual docking spot – but the ship wasn't there anymore, which didn't bode well. Still, Loki was pretty sure that the ship wasn't ready to set sail just yet, as the last time he'd seen it, a couple of years before meeting Adra, she'd been far from complete, no matter how self-building she was.
It still meant that clearly, end of the old prophecies or not, Surtr and Hrym were well set on starting Ragnarök…
¤.¤.¤
August had also been a booming month for the Per Sesen – with the Second Nome in Brooklyn gaining its first students, among them a young girl from Rio de Jainero who'd managed to make her way all across the continent by herself. Since the girl was orphaned, Amos had ended up taking the Brazilian in as a ward, and it was evident to everyone but him he'd end up officially adopting her in due time.
Another new shesh was Walt Stone, a boy a year older than Carter – more importantly, as a descendant of Akhenaton, he was living with a heavy, inherited, death curse.
As soon as he'd heard about it, Amos had done the intelligent thing – calling the clan for help. Sirius had dropped by immediately, and ended spending most of the month around, getting along quite well with the younger boy, and eventually managing to put together a ritual to break the curse.
He had been reluctantly impressed by said curse – realizing that a few years earlier, he wouldn't have known how to get rid of it.
Since then, he'd gotten a few years at Hogwarts under his belt, not to mention he'd gotten far better attuned to his own godly powers, between Pyxis' adoption, and Adra's work on making him accept all of his powers, and not only part of them…

Walt, and all his descendants, would always have a natural affinity with death magics, because of how long the curse had been tied to their bloodline – but no longer would they be dying so young. Truth be told, now that he knew the mortal world better, Anubis was rather impressed that said bloodline had managed to survive through the ages…
The shesh living in Britain had also spent some time with both the Longbottom and Greengrass, reading through their library to try to put back together their own holy magic. Both Neville and Daphne had taken to the topic with gusto, both of them having seen enough of what Adra could do with her brand of holy magic to want and learn it.
Both had taken to work together, thanks to notes Bianca had lent them – even if she wasn't around yet, she was still kept up to date with what was going on in the clan after all – and since the new goddess had had to do some similar work for her own Sumerian magic, it was a rather good starting point.
Diving in piles of old books, learning about oghams and even venturing to the muggle world to see what had survived there – by the end of the month, the Per Sesen had felt rather impressed, as the two wixen had indeed gotten their first grasp on the old druids ways of their ancestors, managing to tease magical reactions even out of completely normal plants, and making oghams react in a rather similar way to the Egyptians divine words…
But what was maybe the more worrying news for the Per Sesen – was the fact that Apophis' prison had noticeably weakened. It was now a matter of months – a year, at best – before the evil entity broke free from its prison…
This spurred the House of the Lotus to hasten their plans, preparing for a ritual to free not only Isis, but all of the remaining minor deities on the next auspicious day, which would happen with the full moon of September. Another hawk had been adopted into the clan in preparation, and a new statue ordered in Dublin.
¤.¤.¤
Iskander had also advised them to bring Thoth in – the Egyptian god of writing was a bit scatter-brained, the former chief lector explained, but had always been on humanity's side. And while he had indeed helped the mortals seal his family, he would be able to see the wisdom of the Per Sesen's new way.
While Iskander didn't know where the moon god was, he had a way to communicate with him – though it hadn't been needed in centuries.
Stored in a pocket in the Du'at, the old shesh took out an ancient scrying bowl made of crystal, with hieroglyphs glinting all around its border in shades of blue.
"Like most gods, he is protected from scrying." the man explained "But trying to scry him with this particular artifact will attract his attention."
Of course – given that the clan was just as protected against scrying as the gods were, they couldn't use the bowl there.
So Iskander and his bowl, along with the Kane family, went to pub for an early evening drink, and to scry.
Carter was the first to feel the godly magic answering to the gentle scrying – and soon, the oily surface of the bowl was replaced by the image of a twentyish looking man, with golden skin, wild, wavy golden hair, and kaleidoscopic eyes swirling with all colors, wearing a lab coat whose sleeves were covered in lightly shinning, moving and changing hieroglyphs, over a simple jean and a crumpled sand-colored shirt.
Just like they'd been warned, he looked a bit scatterbrained, observing them with apparent interest before finally realizing "Oh! Little Iskander! It's been a long time, how are you?"
Sadie snorted at the ancient man being called 'young', drawing attention to her – the swirling eyes then went to all the rest of the little family "Uh. A god in a mortal body? You're not Egyptian, aren't you? No, no, no, not Egyptian, not local, oh! What's an Old One doing in our little corner of the Mortal Realms?"
The air shimmered around them, as the god appeared in the pub, sprawling in a chair "Ah!" he sighed in clear satisfaction, as a beer somewhat found its way in his hands "Not the same as good old Egyptian brew, but it's good too!" he turned his attention back to the shesh and incarnate god "So, what's going on?"
"We've broken from the Per Ankh, Apophis is rising before this time next year…" Ruby enumerated "Ah, and we've freed most of the Egyptian gods you helped seal and found a new way to cohabit with them." she concluded with a bright smile
The god burst out laughing "Oh! You, I like you!" he lent forward "So, little godling, you think you've found a better way than the one we used for thousands of years?" he probed, strange eyes focused on her
Ruby wasn't one to be easily intimidated "I know we have." she gestured to her son "After all, if it's good enough for the Old Ones, why wouldn't it be for you?"
Thoth focused on Carter now, leaning back once more "Incarnation?" he asked "It wouldn't work that easily, but maybe with the help of sympathetic magic, or some blood-binding…"
"I can't believe he's figured in seconds what took our parents years to achieve." Zya mumble, rather impressed
"Well, he's not a god of knowledge for nothing." Sadie pointed out, still visibly impressed too
"And you've done it? Successfully?" the god pressed on
"Anubis and Horus are learning magic in a wixen school. Nephthys is volunteering in the wixen hospital in London, Set is a teacher in the same school as his son, I think Serqet is thinking of becoming a student too…" Carter enumerated
"Neith is traveling around, Nekhbet and Serqet are taking care of some children in Boston, Satis is making herself a home with the Greeks half-bloods… Did I forget anyone?" Julius took over
"Montu has bonded with a wix Bedouin. Hathor, Wepawet, Maahes and Sobek haven't found a partner for incarnation just yet, and Babi decided to side with some Norse Jötunn." Ruby completed
¤.¤.¤
Thoth eyed them dubiously.
"Horus… learning magic?"
"Yeah, that one took everyone by surprise." Carter agreed "He couldn't stand being upstaged by Anubis I think." he mused, some amusement clear in his voice
"I'll have to see it to believe it." the god said, mirth evident in his voice "Still," he added, more seriously "You were right, it looks like you've found a better way. But I doubt the Per Ankh accepted change just like that?"
"Oh they didn't." Ruby agreed "Which is why we left, and made our own way. The Per Sesen is officially recognized by the ICW, and we're seen as just as big heretics as the wixen." she said somewhat proudly
"The Per Ankh has become so set in their way, they've refused to change." Iskander explained more somberly "When I realized they weren't even hearing my voice anymore, I left."
"So in the end, they've fallen to the same shortcomings as my siblings did back in the days…"
"They did." Iskander nodded "And now, Apophis is about to free himself, and I doubt we'll find any help from them." a sigh "The Per Sesen works, but is still young…"
"We aren't numerous, but we won't stand alone." Carter reminded him "Egyptians fought with the Greeks and the Romans but a month ago, and they won't forget it."
In the end, Thoth had decided to follow them home.
He'd been rather astounded by the sprawling clan, and its multitude of different beings – but it was in Brooklyn that he decided to settle, as a new teacher, and to help the Per Sesen prepare for Apophis' return – now that he'd been keyed in to the wards, visiting the First Nome was but a teleportation away, after all, and apparently, the scatterbrained god greatly enjoyed the hustle and bustle of big cities, making New York a haven for him.
Once upon a time, his presence may have been seen badly by the local pantheon – but between all the changes engineered by Adra over the year, and the recent help of Egyptians gods against Typhon, Thoth was quite to the contrary easily welcomed, and was apparently often visiting Athena.
Rather amusingly, the god also hadn't wasted any time – asking Amos to adopt him less than a week after putting down his suitcases in Brooklyn.
"Well, I can manifest everywhere because there's always something to be learned anywhere in the world." the god had said "But it takes some focus and power that I could better use elsewhere!" he'd explained, hands flying wildly "And you're a scholar! We're compatible!"
Truth was -Amos and Thoth were compatible indeed, and it soon became clear what the god had meant by 'focus and power' as Aadish Kane, while he still had a keen mind and a rather endearing boyish enthusiasm for any kind of learning, was also far more put together than Thoth had been without a mortal body…

Iskander – really had been right to advise them to bring the god in the Per Sesen – as on top of his keen intelligence, Thoth was also a great teacher, something they sorely needed, given how few of them they had among the two Nomes of the Lotus.
Finally, as August came to and end, and all the wixen teens were once more boarding the Hogwarts Express, Voldemort came out of his silence.
¤.¤.¤
The train had departed Charing Cross for a few hours, lunch had been eaten, and the cart-lady had already done her tour of the train, when the red locomotive came to a sudden stop, making all the wagons wobbles and strain, only the slew of enchantments done on them preventing them from going off the rails…
Adra frowned, as she felt a familiar sensation – one she had been rather lucky not to have experienced yet in this life.
Cold.
Around them, the window panes were becoming covered in frost, and the incarnate goddess' senses were making the new feeling of despair encroaching on the train nearly overpowering.
Adra had a lot more painful memories, most of them from her previous life, than Harriet Potter ever had.
She also had the nearly overwhelming need to destroy the creatures she felt clearly encroached against Death's dominion – stealing and damaging souls in a way only corrupted creatures could do…
She didn't stop to wonder about how it was possible that dementors were around – when she knew Pyxis had taken great pleasure in eradicating them during the Hunt – she simply blacked out.

By the time she came back to herself, she was in her brother's arms – and the dementors were once more extincts. She was also exhausted, having lost any control over her powers, drowning the train in an ocean of green power that had swiftly incinerated the creatures.
Each and everyone of the students, having felt the touch of death, were now able to see the thestrals that pulled the school's carriages – and not one half-blood among them was deluded enough to believe she was anything less than a goddess.
Most of the students also strongly suspecting she'd been the one to save them – though they weren't quite as sure, not having the same ability to feel godly powers as the god-borns.
Pyxis had shadow-walked to Adra just as her powers had settled back, as they had target left, and she'd fallen unconscious – he'd immediately sent a patronus to Dumbledore, who'd promptly apparated to the train, ensuring that everyone was alright – they were, thanks to Adra -and making sure the Hogwarts Express made the rest of its way to Hogsmeade unhampered.
Madam Pomfrey had also been called, the mediwitch checking that all the children were given some chocolate to alleviate the exposure to dementors symptoms, and confirming that Adra was only suffering from a mild magical fatigue…
The start of the year feast had been rather subdued – though the mood was lifted when Adra, who'd finally woken up, joined the feast, then Dumbledore announced the newest official professor, one Daemon Moon, which all of the students remembered from the year before.
¤.¤.¤
As for Adra – after the first two times she startled awake, screaming in Japanese and mind filled with images of blood and white laboratory walls, Leifr and Sirius had abandoned their bed to snuggle in her own, spreading their aura of death and chaos around her in a protective bubble that finally allowed her to sleep.
She did have a few more nightmares over the followings days and week – but there was always someone to slip into her bed and lull her back to sleep – and as time went by, and she settled back into the rhythm of school days, she finally was able to leave once more behind the memories of underground laboratories and arena where children were forced to fight to death.
It told quite a bit about how unsettled she'd been – and how sensitive to it her fellow school-mates were – that it was only by the end of September that she was approached by a rather skittish Slytherin pureblood.
"The Dark Lord has started to call his followers to him."
"He's realized that creatures could only go so far, then." Adra mused
"Creatures will only wreak havoc and spread fear." the tall, brown-haired teen said, lips curled in distaste "So much for someone proclaiming to want to change the wixen world."
The Potter Head smiled internally – she wasn't surprised that Theo didn't agree, the boy was smart after all, and though he'd kept with the other dark aligned children over the year, he was among those who'd clearly realized more and more the way the wind was turning.
Theodore Nott was proud to be a pureblood, there was no doubt about it – but he also didn't look down on the half and muggle-borns who made the effort to learn and respect wixen culture and traditions, and he'd seen, over the years, the changes brought by the Potter-Black-Lovegood alliance.
All that the dark lord had promised, and more.
Without the violence and the bloodshed.
His father may have been happy to lick the boots of a wizard who didn't even dare use his true name, and had been disavowed by Salazar Slytherin himself – Theo knew his parent was a violent yet cunning man, who craved blood and chaos far more than the changes he professed to be fighting for.
"So what is he proclaiming to want, now that we've enacted most of the changes he wanted better than he ever could?"
Theo laughed – it wasn't very loud, and it clearly wasn't something he was used to do – but he answered, nonetheless, in a dry, deadpan tone that made Adra think he'd get along quite well with Sirius and Leifr "Purging our society from the non-wixen, half-bloods and muggle-borns included, and reminding the gods they have nothing to do with wixen affairs."
It was Adra's turn to laugh.
"By using mythological creatures?"
"The natural enemies of the god, smart enough not to trust them." he regurgitated the propaganda he'd endured during two months, delighted to finally have found someone who understood just as well as he did how stupid this was
"And he proposes… what… to fight against all the gods?"
Theo became more somber.
"He does." he agreed "And he's shown enough power that quite a bit of them have been convinced, and the rest are too afraid to dare to back out."
"Not you."
"Not me." the pureblood smirked "Did you know that not once, in all of the time I've seen you since our earlier season balls, up to our current schooling… Not once you've said that you were a half-blood." his smirk widened "Oh sure, you've always answered people, or spoken, in a way that implied it, but…" a shrug "I may not be a god-born myself, but I'm not stupid." a shrug "Then you went and put on that show of power in train, and sure, nobody said it was you, but anybody with a brain knows it, and the way the half-bloods look at you has changed…"
¤.¤.¤
Adra laughed.
"Even Dumbledore needed to feel my power before he realized all this." she said happily, rather impressed by the boy "So, what do you want from me?"
A sigh.
"I can take care of myself." he said, eyes hard and cold in the way of someone who was used to such "But my sisters…"
Adra frowned, growing uneasy at the clear worry in the boy's voice. There weren't any other Nott currently enrolled at school, after all.
"They're nine years old." he explained "And they look like mother a lot." a wince "I don't think their father remembers them."
Half-bloods.
Suddenly, it made sense – she heard the rumor, both in her first and current life, that Theodore Nott Senior had killed his own wife under his son's eyes. She still didn't know why it had happened back then – but here, it was rather evident now…
"Do you have an idea about whom their parent could be?"
Theo shook his head.
"Some kind of mischief god? Younger, I thought it may be Loki but…"
"He loves claiming his children."
Theo laughed.
"That he does. Even when he's not supposed to say he's the parent!" clearly, the teen remembered Leifr's overjoyed announcement about Colborn's birth – then he became more serious "But well… Enya and Nuri are hellions, and I'm pretty sure the only reason father hasn't gotten rid of them yet is that they're far too valuable.
"Valuable?" Adra repeated with distaste
Theo nodded, nose frowned in disgust "Breeding stock. Them being half-bloods suddenly didn't matter, once them demonstrated their talent for parseltongue."
"That's it," Adra snapped "I'm kidnapping them."
Theo nodded earnestly "I hoped you'd say that."
Adra groaned as she realized "Remus is going to cry… I've never kidnapped wixen from an important family before…"
"Father hasn't claimed them. Neither legally nor in magic." Theo answered immediately with a vicious smile, somehow producing two birth acts – which indeed only listed the mother's name
Adra raised an impressed eyebrow at the pureblood – his sisters may be the one born from a god of mischief, but he clearly had gotten his fair share of cunning too. She snatched the birth act, then reached her hand toward him "Want to help me kidnap your sisters?"
"I'd be honored."
The two of them disappeared in a swirl of shadows, stepping out just outside the Nott family manor. It took but a few minutes of tinkering for the goddess to convince the wards to let her in, her class-mate soon directing her to a small room, which furniture were far more modest than the rest of the house.
Two twin girls, with light-brown hair and yellow eyes reminiscent of those of a cat, wearing their hair in intricate braids. Two twin-girls, bearing the familiar feel of chaos, and death, streaked with hints of magic and life.
Theo was soon explaining to his sister that they were going away, the girls easily understanding why that was necessary, making Adra's anger against Nott Senior increase just that much more.
¤.¤.¤
Remus hadn't cried when she'd arrived with the girls and Theo in tow – but it had been a near thing. His eyes had lightened when she gave him the birth certificates, and he immediately started to fill the file for new wards he was well-used to, while Pandora had somehow known she was needed and had dropped by to organize rooms for the girls.

"Veles." Adra said to Theo, as they were setting back in the Slytherin common room "That's their parent." she elaborated to Theo "And it's quite possible that he hasn't forgotten about them, he's not faded, but diminished enough that he wasn't able to leave his area of power the last time I saw him. I'll check."
"Mother and father did go on a work trip in Russia at about the right time." Theo realized, before nodding in thanks "It would be good to know if they weren't just cast-off."
Adra nodded, before wrapping the teen's hand around an emerald moon pendant, stringed on a length of silver-chain — something Luna had hinted she would do well to have under-hands, in large quantities, back in August.
"Emergency portkey. To a safe house in London." she told him "It can be removed only by the one who put in on." a smile "The password is Ghosty's Den."
[Life Quest Updated! The Girl Who Lived…
Bonus Goal update: help the children of Death Eaters (3/?)]
The pureblood scion looked stunned a moment, then nodded his head in gratitude.
Adra knew she'd be getting a few more visits in the coming days.
In the end, among the nearly seventy children aged five to seventeen that frequented Hogwarts, a little less than thirty took the way out she was offering – mostly by simply giving them a portkey for the older, but she also did orchestrate a few more kidnappings, not all of them as easy as the one of Enya and Nuri Lupin – because apparently, the girls had hit it off that well with the werewolf!
Soon, Samhain had arrived, the school organizing once more an awakening ceremony – this time, both Neville and Daphne had been included in most of the preparation work, and the groundwork had been done to create a druidic version of Adra's clearly Asian holy magic.
The incarnate goddess was pretty sure that by the time they finished their seventh year, either of the purebloods would be up to replace her for the awakening, and able to train an eventual replacement.
That was rather minor, in the scale of all the things she'd achieved since being reborn in that world, yet she couldn't help but feel delighted about it.
The months went by quickly, Yule fast approaching – and just like Nott had warned her first, Voldemort had called back his old Death Eaters pals, and started back up where he'd left a decade earlier.
Of course, things weren't that easy for him. Between the ministry, who'd prepared in a quick and efficient manner that proved the years of work in the Wizengamot from Leto, Pyxis and Remus had been far from useless; and the people, whose moral had been bolstered by Dumbledore during his speech at the end of the Triwizard Tournament – Voldemort and his ilks were founding the British wixen world a far tougher target than expected.
His attacks were more violent than ever, and he did leave behind bodies and wounded – but all the half-bloods, and quite a few wixen, that had the know-how had applied for the hitwixen license, and it was doing wonders in keeping the casualties low… Or on the other side.
It wasn't a perfect situation, yet it was still going far better than it had in Harriet Potter's world – and that despite the situation being far dangerous in this life, with the addition of godly powers and mythological creatures.
¤.¤.¤
Still, the situation wasn't that bad yet, so when Adra received an invitation for the clan to spend Boxing Day in Tiān, the Chinese Dream World, where Jade had been granted a mansion in recognition of his work for the Imperial Bureaucracy, she did consider it. The Asian half-blood explained that now that the Chinese gods had gone back to their old ways, meddling a bit more with the mortals, inviting them wouldn't make anyone bat an eye, given that his mansion was in the outskirt of the imperial city.
Given how curious most of the clan members were at the idea of visiting a dream world, something most of them couldn't do since they mostly housed gods, who weren't very keen on receiving mortal guests – it was a given that the invitation was eventually accepted, and a couple of days after Christmas, Adra was opening a shadow portal to Tiān's small gate – the large gate used only for the major gods, with how everything was codified among the Chinese pantheon.
There were a couple of Menshen gods who took an imprint of everyone's aura as identification for the registers, and gave them jade identification discs, called bi, to tie to their belt – Adra already had hers of course, since she'd visited a few time when preparing for the Hunt.
The others were rather interested in the subtleties of the bi – from the size, to the ideograms engraved on them, to the grade of the jade, they told to those who knew how to decipher them all they needed to know about someone' identity for a small encounter.
Jade, who'd met them at the gate, explained them all about it and more – how Adra, Pyxis and Carter had a grade of jade that only the Emperor himself had, though of course the clan noticed he did share the same jade grade too; how the color of the string and the intricacy of the knot indicated they were guests rather than residents; how the symbols pertained to the natural inclination of their powers, while the size indicated whether they were mortals, half-bloods, spirits or gods, and so on…
While he talked, the expansive son of Fú Xing had led them to his mansion – and given how large, and exquisite it already was, those of the clan that hadn't already visited Tiān had trouble imagining the apparently grander abodes that laid nearer to the city-center – not to mention the Imperial Palace itself.
All in all, the clan spent a rather entertaining visitation – then, as they were about to head home, the Honorable Fú Xing himself had dropped by, with an official invitation from the palace for Adra.
Pyxis had taken the clan home – while Jade had decided that the formal invitation was the perfect pretext to ply doll with one of his favorite Treasure.
Adra had rolled her eyes, but endured patiently, rather amused to see that Fú Xing himself was just as bad as his son, something she hadn't known about the Chinese god of luck.
¤.¤.¤
A few hours later, Adra was making her way through the imperial compound, going through a rather lengthy and formal welcoming and greeting in the large throne room, filled with court members and other minor gods and spirits– which made her glad she had brushed up on her knowledge about Tiān's customs.
Then, she was taken to a more private chamber, where she wasn't too surprised to see the emperor relax himself, departing from the rather stern composure he usually kept in public.
"You honor us with your presence, Old One."
Though his speech was still rather formal – it was far more natural than the very traditional phrasing from earlier – and given how old this god was, probably was about as relaxed as he could speak, Adra remembered well enough how old-fashioned the daiyoukai's regular way of speaking had seemed to humans.
"I am just as honored by the invitation." she answered "Please, call me Shadow." she added – knowing her usual nickname would seem a bit too intimate to the emperor-god
"And I am Shàng." he offered in kind – something she knew he seldom could do, given that he was the supreme authority in his realm, he smiled, then got to the reason for his invitation "My courts have debated about how best to bring back balance."
Adra nodded, to let him know she was listening, and let him speak.
"While we are indeed heavily inclined toward Order, I thought that there was something that perhaps only you could do, to bring forth change in our city."
He lowered his head, clearly deep in his memories, as he forged on softly "I used to have a very dear friend, who ruled by my side." he admitted
Adra tilted her head – she'd heard about the faceless, who'd been a rather powerful chaos entity, but hadn't realized he'd been that close to the emperor.
"He was such a dear friend, I simply wanted to make people… See, just like I could, how truly beautiful he was."
There was real grief in the emperor's expression, the kind he could only rarely allow himself to feel as a ruler, the incarnate goddess realized.
"But I was foolish, and didn't realize that using my powers, that were the antithesis to his own, would only bring him harm." his smile was brittle as he said "He thanked me, for carving him such a beautiful face… All the while falling in deep slumber, so grievous was the harm I'd caused."
He lifted his head toward her, a new light shinning in his eyes "But you, Old Ones… Shadow… You have powers just like him. You could help him, and undo the wrong I did him."
There was only one answer to such an earnest request, that she really hadn't expected from the always seemingly calm and dignified deity.
"Take me to him."
¤.¤.¤
There was a whole palace, hidden in the clouds, above the Celestial Emperor's own.
An empty palace, empty of any gods or spirits, yet kept in pristine condition thanks to Shàng Dì's magic – in the heart of which, slept the most powerful chaos god she'd ever encountered on the planet.
Hùndùn hadn't been wrong, she mused – the face his friend had carved him was beautiful – but it also looked quite unnatural on the humanoid, yet partly avian silhouette slumbering on a bed of silk.
Because Hùndùn was faceless for a reason – it was his very nature to be ever-changing, in direct concordance with his intense attunement to the Revolutionary Art.
Adra called her godly powers to the front, and dived into her own connection to Chaos; strands of golden powers, streaked both emerald and light green, and dark and light violet; materializing around her in a tumultuous storm of Chinese ideograms, and runes from all sorts of different languages, some not even existing in this world.
It was apparent, to her swirling green and gold eyes, just where the damage was, and how to undo it. After all, just like the Jade Emperor has said – his powers were just like hers.
[Status Update! Administrator
Hùndùn the faceless (Major Earth-Bound God, LV MAX) is now Local Administrator for the current iteration of Chaos Game.
Hùndùn can now choose Main Players and Secondary Players.

Secondary Players can't share Chaos Game, nor create parties. They also can also have access to quests from the Main Player they are tied to.
Note that all players are still beholden to the usual safety measure.]
[Revolutionary Art progressed to rank 80]
There was a very definite shift in the air, Adra able to nearly taste the change as the faceless god awakened. It was rather intriguing, how even without a face, he was broadcasting his feelings loud enough for her to know just what kind of expression he would be making if he had a voice.
There was both gratitude, and some regret as he mused "I guess there was no saving Shàng's beautiful work…"
Adra smiled, and knew just what was missing.
Dipping in her Inventory, she caught the blank mask Leon had seen fit to create for her a few months before, and poured her powers – and memories – into it.
Little by little, the mask changed, red and gold lines painting a familiar face of the ceramic ornament.
[Face of the Faceless (mask, evolving accessory) created
(when wearing this mask, it while move and change according to the wearer's will and emotions)]
The god sent the feeling of a grateful smile – which was quickly echoed by his mask, as he donned it on his faceless face.
Adra reached a hand toward him, to help him rise from the bed he'd spent so much time in "Come, you've got a friend whose been waiting to see you again for a very long time."

The reunion between the two friends had been truly heart-warming, though Adra had soon taken her leave to give them some privacy.
Jade had been hoovering in the outer compound of the Imperial Palace, having felt, not only her use of her powers, but the sudden change in the air brought by the awakening of Hùndùn.
¤.¤.¤
"You are staying the night." he all but decreed as he saw her, before immediately taking her in a princess carry and cloud-walking to his house
He wasn't wrong, Adra had to admit – while she wasn't going to fell in a coma, or anything as drastic; that was only because this world was so old that it was rather forgiven with the usage of her godly abilities now that her body had entered its first stage of adulthood with her Fifth Rite.
Had it been any other world – the incarnate goddess knew she'd been in for several months of coma, healing a god to such a profound level wasn't something that easily done after all. Not to mention, it was the second time in this life that she exceeded her expected limitations with Chaos' Powers…
So, she settled to sending a message to the clan via Chaos Game, before changing in more comfortable clothes and enjoying the attentions of her Storm, who was quite happily piling her with godly food to make her recover some energy, all the while cuddling her like a favored doll – which wasn't that far from reality, given that before ascending, Jade had been a dragon, and she still was considered as one of his Treasures, just like Carter.
The changes to Tiān's daily life wouldn't be immediately apparent – but with Shàng Dì's godly efficiency, by the time Adra woke up the next day, quite a few things had already been changed.
The floating palace of Hùndùn wasn't hidden away anymore, and the Emperor had decreed that his fellow god would have the same status as him.
The news had also been passed around that those who felt better incline toward chaos powers were welcome to resign from the Jade Emperor's palace, to apply to the Faceless' retinue.
Many were still hesitating – but Jade and his father had both immediately done so, to Adra's non-existent surprise. She just knew both Nezha and Sun Wukong wouldn't be far behind, both trickster gods quite unsuited to the rigid court of the god of Order.
Adra had been called one more time to see the emperor – this time accompanied by his co-ruler.
Both were adamant about thanking her for her help. As such, they'd gifted her a new bi pendant, this one granting her the title of Yuè Tiān Diàn Xià, Moon Princess of Tiān, and with it authority over any of their retinue if needed.
[New Soul-Bounded Title unlocked
"Yuè Tiān Diàn Xià"
grants the wielder authority only second to Shàng Dì himself over the Chinese pantheon]
They knew, after all, that their world was quite saved yet – and with this pendant, they were giving her to wield the might of the Chinese Bureaucracy.
The fact that her new title was rather similar to one she'd earned in a previous life – had been rather amusing to Adra – but beyond that, she had been genuinely grateful to the two gods, who'd given her quite an impressive gift by making her a part of their family. When she next visited – she wouldn't need the hours-long protocol, but instead simply be waved in the palace's inner compound – and she would be back, as in a couple of visits, she already knew that she would get along with her new godly family.
As for Jade, he'd been all but unbearable when he realized that, right where once upon a time a red chakra had marked her as his Treasure, a new symbol had appeared.
A delicate, three-leafed, floral huādiàn design in the bright red color Chinese gods favored so much, nesting in the hollow of the green moon that adorned her brow, and echoing with the power of the Wild – marking her for all to see as a princess of the Chinese pantheon, but also, once more, as his Treasure. Which – neither really knew how it had happened, but since the mark the dragon had left on her went soul-deep, it probably simply had taken advantage of the new visible mark to resurface.
On top of her new title, and brow ornament, Adra had also been gifted more mundane yet gorgeous items – an ornate hanfu, in light silk and see-through veils, the splendidly decorated fabric clearly made just for her, with it's emerald green and golden embroideries and moon and foxes patterns.
Beyond how beautiful the clothing was – it was also donned with multiple enchantment, as fit for clothing made by and for the gods.
Naturally – the hanfu came with jewelries and hair ornaments perfectly assorted to it; making Adra wonder about using some of the soul-bound tokens she had in stock on the beautiful gifts…
¤.¤.¤
While she did head home – Adra kept in touch with Jade, who regaled both the clan and her with stories about the changes provoked by the new co-emperor.
The Chinese gods had for most all but forgotten about what chaos could do to their daily life – but they were soon rediscovering that there weren't only bad sides to chaos.
Impromptu street festivals, a new lightness in the air – but also, some surprise calls to ensure some administration were working as intended, or ready to deal with unexpected situations…
Already, Hùndùn was proving why he was fit to reign by Shàng Dì's side, and numerous gods and spirits were realizing they were more suited to his court.
By the time she headed back to Hogwarts, at the end of the winter-break, Adra knew that by her next visit, Tiān would be a very different place – all for the better…
The next few months went by just as quickly as the beginning of the school year had, with attacks from Voldemort coming every few weeks.
Clearly, the dark lord was now able to produce mythological monsters himself, and more and more rapidly – though they didn't know quite how. It was clearly Nergal's influence, but since he'd abandoned Kur, they couldn't come from there. The most logical, if worrying conclusion, was that somehow, the new incarnate god had created a Dream World anchored to Britain, right under the nose of both Adra, Carter and Pyxis, and the local Celtic pantheon.
With skills like this, it was no wonder he'd nearly taken over both the Egyptian and Roman pantheons once upon a time…
Bianca had taken the news particularly personally, which wasn't too surprising given the circumstances of her ascension.
So, after a few months spent learning how to get used to godhood with the assistance of her father – and, rather surprisingly, his wife, she was once more able to walk the mortal world. And more importantly, ready to tackle the challenge of finding Voldemort's hiding hole – and monster factory.
And, at the beginning of March – Persephone gave birth.
The goddess spent barely a few hours in labor, and was even more resplendent after the act – probably due to her ties to life as a goddess of Life. Honestly, Adra was rather jealous – she loved all the children she'd had over her pas few lives, but giving birth was the part she could have done without, as it had always been a messy, painful, far too long affair for her – which, given her status as Death's sister may be logical, she realized…
More surprisingly, there were two children – who'd been resting, so closely entwined with each other in their mother's womb in a way that made it impossible to realize there were two of them before they came out.
A little boy, with light green eyes who shone with the powers of Life – and a little girl with gleaming emerald eyes, whose dominion clearly laid over Death.
Altair and Nashira Black.
Pyxis was over the moon, and terrified, and had no idea how to care for real babies – as really, Adra had been rather self-sustaining, even at a year and a half.
Thankfully, the Old One of Death wasn't alone – he had a massive clan behind him, all ready to help him in this new adventure, and welcome the others children than were soon due in the clan.
Suddenly having two little ones to protect, and knowing another two would follow in the clan, also made the incarnate god rather paranoid – and truth be told, none could blame him.
Leifr had added a whole slew of Celtic and Norse wards when Colborn was born, helped and abided by Bast and Anubis – Pyxis did the same.
As did Adra.
And all the Egyptian gods that hadn't been there for Colborn's birth, who hadn't been close to a mortal baby for millennia, and had forgotten just how fragile they were, and were panicked nearly as much as the new father.
¤.¤.¤
Overall, it wasn't that surprising when, last ward set – a new notification popped on Chaos Interface for all to see – one might even say it had been a long time coming…

At the flow of information, all had exchanged both impressed and confused glances – between the children who hadn't been linked to Chaos Game, and the slew of changes to the clan's home, there were quite a few sudden changes that had happened.
Remus raised his eyes to the sky, then apparated out – and came back a few seconds later.
"It's official." he confirmed "We're really in a dream world, when outside the forest I can distinguish between the mortal world and our home."
"So," Luna teased "does it mean we can pray to you now, Adra, oh beloved Moon Princess?"
"You already do whenever you want to tell me something, and you're too lazy to send a message." said 'beloved moon princess' reminded her dryly "Besides, now I can pray to you too!"
"Wait, wait, wait…" Leanne protested "Luna's a goddess too?"
Said goddess pouted.
"I can't believe Chaos just went and busted my secret just like that!"
Adra wasn't too surprised – while she'd never felt the other powers as a goddess, she wasn't really surprised – there had to be a reason why she'd been able to follow her thought the worlds, after all.
What did surprise her was the length of the 'Faithful List'. Somehow, she really hadn't expected to see about the whole student body of Hogwarts. And the teachers.
She was the only one surprised – Sirius going as far as pointing out that the only reason Neville and Daphne weren't listed as Holy Servants was that they weren't quite trained enough yet.
Apparently, the clan's change of status was felt by all – and so they were visited by an uninterrupted flow of friendly gods during the following days, who dropped by to congratulate them, bringing presents of food and drink.
The Hogwarts students didn't ask why there were surprise feasts nearly every day of that week, instead choosing to enjoy – even if quite a few of them had their own guesswork about the situation.
All in one, everyone got used rather quickly to be a part of the Moon pantheon.
