As Ayaka and Izuku walked the halls, they could finally see where the orientation was taking place. A sign that read "UA Hero Course Exam Orientation" was present nearby a door with an arrow pointing to the entrance.
Before approaching the entrance, Ayaka spots a person giving out handouts for the students. Only a few actually paid any attention to the person but Ayaka wanted to get one for herself. She thought it couldn't hurt to be prepared.
Ayaka pauses just ahead of Izuku before turning to inform Izuku. "Midoriya, you go on ahead. I'll be right with you after a short while."
Izuku looks ahead and sees the person giving out handouts and understood what Ayaka wanted. "Okay, I'll find our seat numbers for us."
With a nod, Izuku heads inside while Ayaka walks over to the lady handing the printouts. She approaches the person and greets her. "Good morning, could I get a handout? Sorry to trouble you."
"Oh! It's fine, really. Here, it's not like many are going out of their way to take any precautions. The orientation is all well and good but it's good to be ready to look over anything while heading to the testing site." the lady responds.
Ayaka took the piece of paper and glanced over the contents before another voice came from her side.
"So, you are one of many who takes the hero course seriously. Nice to see that there are aspiring heroes that participate in Japan's finest."
Ayaka turns to who spoke, a relatively tall man with glasses and short dark blue hair stood with his own copy of the hand out in front of him. "I would not put it in that way but yes, it's just for reassurance. May I ask who I am speaking to?"
The man bows deeply while swinging his arm around. "My name is Iida Tenya. I hope we both can pass the exam."
Ayaka tilts her head forward and bows with a less extreme angle. "Nice to meet you, I am Kamisato Ayaka. Let's do our best, Iida. I'm afraid I have to cut this conversation short, I need to head off to the orientation."
Ayaka took note of the demeanor Tenya had 'He has such a stern look on his face, the way he acts reminds me of someone back in Inazuma.'
"Of course, I won't spend any more of your time, Kamisato. Take care," he responded.
After that short exchange, Ayaka made her way into the lecture hall where the orientation was being held. It was a large room full of tech and lights, bigger than she'd ever seen. What caught her eye was the large screen in the front of the room.
Present Mic, as she came to identify was idling around the front, his long blonde hair spiked upwards being the main recognizable factor she got to remember from Izuku fanboying over every hero he knew, which was a lot.
Finally, when the clock hits another hour Present Mic slams his hands on the ground and starts to exaggerate his arm movements. "To all examinees out there, welcome to my live performance! Everybody say hey!"
...
If this were outside, a random tumbleweed would've already gone by, defying the laws of nature.
He shrugged. "That's cold. To all examinees out there, I'll give you a quick rundown of the practical exam. Are you ready?! Yeah!"
...
Even a graveyard couldn't beat how much silence the room established.
Ayaka listened as she kept going over the printout, she was going to try her best to both listen and read the paper but she was confident in her ability to do both at the same time. Her concentration was broken though when Izuku from nearby started to mumble.
"It's Present Mic, the voice hero! I listen to his radio show every week! The teachers here are all pro heroes!" He gushed over the mere presence of a hero.
Ayaka leaned to his side and quietly reminded him. "Midoriya, keep your voice down. You'll bother the others."
Present Mic spoke, and massive visuals behind him appeared which impressed Ayaka. "As the application says, you'll participate in a ten-minute mock battle in the city. Bring anything, after this head to your assigned practice center."
...
"Okay?!"
*Crickets*
To Ayaka's surprise, Katsuki was the one to raise his concerns. "So they're not letting friends work together, huh?" He remarked.
Ayaka stopped at the specific word Katsuki mentioned. 'Friends? Is that how friendship works?' she was perplexed maybe friendship is more complicated than she initially thought.
Izuku glanced at both Ayaka's and Katsuki's exam tickets. Ayaka's was 2235, Izuku was 2234, and Katsuki's read 2233. "You're right we all have consecutive numbers but different centers. Ah! But Kamisato yours is the same as Kacchan's."
It seems that Izuku's mention of what practice center Ayaka was in made Katsuki snap his head around to stare directly at Ayaka. "I'll finally get the chance to crush you, Princess."
Ayaka heeded nothing of note from Katsuki's comment. The explanation of Present Mic continued while she kept her attention to the handout.
It was a simple test, robots were sent out in limited numbers with each having points assigned to them. The visuals on the screen in front showed a basic understanding of how it worked. It ranged from 1 to 3 with each robot assumingly being stronger than the last.
Present Mic ended his statement by reminding them to do nothing un-heroic or purposely hurt others. Though what Ayaka was curious about was the 0 point and silhouette that it came with on the handout. 'I need to ask about this.'
Ayaka and Tenya both raise hands. "I have a question.", "Can you clarify this?" someone else voiced their concerns alongside Ayaka at the same time.
Ayaka took one look at the other person and recognized him. "Oh, pardon me. You can ask your question ahead of mine."
Tenya nods at Ayaka's go-ahead. "I will." He turns back to the front, "On this printout, there are four Villain types. If it's a misprint it'll be a great shame on Japan's best school! We examinees are here because we want to be taught by exemplary heroes."
He suddenly points to the back and gives attention to Izuku who was looking around nervously. "And you frizzy-haired boy. Your endless murmuring is disrupting! If you're here just for fun, leave now!"
"I'm sorry..." He squeaked out. Ayaka pat his back and reassured Izuku, "Don't let it get to you. At least you know what to look out for when in public again."
Present Mic waved his hand downward. "Okay okay, Examinee number 7112, thanks for the nice message. The fourth one is zero points, he is an outcast it's just a gimmick that's causing a ruckus throughout each center. You can destroy him, but there's no point. To the listeners, I advise you to avoid these guys."
Ayaka looked on with a doubting look at the handout held by her hands. 'Wouldn't that be bad advice? If a Villain like that was walking around wouldn't confronting it be better? What if civilians, their lives, property, and their livelihoods were in the direct path and consequence because of it? It just seems too cowardly to run away.'
Tenya was satisfied with the answer and sat down. "Thank you and please excuse my question."
"What about you Examinee number 2235?" A spotlight shone over Ayaka as she stood up to answer.
"I apologize but my question has already been answered. I do have a different inquiry though, is there any punishment or penalty for destroying the 0 pointer?" She asked.
Her question apparently had made the whole room silent. Which was unnerving for Ayaka since she thought it was a genuine question. Though she could hear murmurs going around.
"No way... is she planning on destroying it?" , "It's worth 0 points though... is she that confident?", "How can someone even face that thing."
Katsuki somehow got angrier than he usually is and glared at Ayaka. Katsuki felt his brows furrow even deeper. 'Is she trying to one-up me?! I'll destroy that piece of garbage and show her I'm better!'
Present Mic was surprised but answered Ayaka's question. "Well little listener, there is no such thing when you do destroy the 0 pointer."
Ayaka sat down with a bow. "Thank you."
Present Mic started to wrap up the orientation. "That's it for now. Finally, I'll bestow upon you our school motto. The hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said, true heroism consists in being superior to the ills of life. Over and beyond, Plus Ultra! So I wish you all the best."
As they exited and started to head for the bus, Ayaka switched her outfit to her combat dress. Despite it looking like any other traditional Japanese outfit, there is no close resemblance to a single specific type of clothing. It was an amalgamation of different styles of Japanese clothing inspired into a single outfit. She took out her sword and stared at the reflection mirroring her eye. She smiled and sheathed it in its scabbard.
She met up with Izuku wearing his training clothes as he waved over to Ayaka. "Kamisato, good luck." He looked nervously at the bus with Katsuki glaring at his front. "Kacchan is going to go all out because of you. Are you going to be okay?"
"Midoriya, we've been training for so long. I won't hold back now just when we have reached a point in our training that All Might is comfortable in sending us to the exams. Let's do our best."
Izuku nodded before going to his own bus. Ayaka walked to the other bus where practice center A participants are going to proceed in. As soon as she got on the nearly full bus, she could only see one seat that was available for her to use.
The one right next to Katsuki.
She sat down next to him. To the dread of everyone nearby, nobody wanted to sit on the spot where the mad pomeranian was barking. It was a death sentence but with no other choice in seating, Ayaka took the risk and sat beside him.
It was awkward, without Izuku to be there with them to diffuse anything it could lead to a confrontation. The bus moved and traveled through the streets, Ayaka looked at Katsuki scowling.
"Does Midoriya consider you as his friend, Kacchan?"
Katsuki didn't turn to meet her eyes. "Shut it and don't call me that. I know for a fact that you stick-up-the-ass types always look down on others. That Deku always calls me that, so if you're going to scream my name as you get defeated you might as well call me Bakugo."
Ayaka took a deep breath. 'At least I know his name now. Getting through this kind of person is always a challenge but I need to do my best so Midoriya can have less of a poor time during school.'
"Why are you so obsessed with trying to be the best? There are other people with talent and commitment at the same level as yours. Especially when UA comes to thought." She asks.
"Hah?! I'm not trying to be the best! I am the best! I don't need you telling me that all these other extras are worth any kind of attention, a trashcan at the side of a street is better at being a hero than these morons."
"What does that make me then?"
Katsuki stomps his foot on the ground, impatiently as they all headed to the practice center. "Some bastard I can pulverize to scraps. Nothing more than an annoying little roadblock, so don't get in my way, Princess."
Ayaka wondered in her mind. 'I think I can get a grasp on Katsuki's personality by now. It will be hard to get through him.'
Ayaka flashes a smile. "Let's do our best then."
Katsuki raised his brow before it was overwhelmed by a flurry of anger. "Tch. Watch me score higher than you."
The bus goes to a stop, the driver announces their departure, and the students one by one file out of the bus and in front of the large gate standing in between them and the city.
Ayaka took one more check at her blade while looking focused toward the gate. Katsuki was nearby warming up and glaring at the door as well.
Despite not being present in the same practice center, Present Mic's voice could be heard through the speakers scattered around the facility. He only uttered two words that triggered an immediate response from Ayaka and Katsuki.
"Okay, start!"
