Jacob positioned himself in front of me, growling at the red-headed threat in front of us. She smirked at this, shaking her head.

"How do you do it, Bella? So many supernaturals, so little time." She laughed, and it was a cruel laugh. I shivered, getting goosebumps all over my arms. She moved to the side, and Jacob moved with her, clumsy but certain. I took a step back, and Jacob shook his head, not daring to look at me, but pulling me back to him with one arm. I bit my lip, my eyes looking back into her stone black ones.

She tried to lunge at me, and Jacob beat her down the second she moved. She jumped away, snarling at him. Blood poured out of her where he had slashed her, and I threw up, turning to the side so I wouldn't get it on Jake. His nose wrinkled, and so did Victoria's. She looked in my direction, her eyes getting an even madder glint in them. She tried to get at me again, but Jacob knocked her down just as well. This time, she didn't run back. She started to claw and tear at him, and I screamed. Without thinking, I threw myself in front of him. I closed my eyes. If it was going to end like this, I was glad it was for Jacob.

I waited for my death, hoping it didn't hurt as much as people said it did. All I could see behind my eyelids was Edward. I had never done him justice. His bronze hair and his golden eyes gleamed perfectly at me, and I felt myself smile, despite everything. He reached out for me in my mind, and I wanted to reach back to him, but something was holding my hands back… Something hot…

"Bella, we have to get out of here! Now!" Jacob yelled, and I opened my eyes, shocked. I saw two vampires on the ground, one Victoria and the other strangely familiar. I could only see flashes of pale yellow and bright red, but I could swear I knew…

"Bella!" He pulled on my hand, and I realized he had phased back to human. I nodded, and he held tightly onto my hand, running as quickly as he could. I tripped and fell a lot, and eventually he just put me on his back again. It was a little more uncomfortable then when he was a wolf, but I could learn to deal with it. I realized I must be delirious, to be thinking of such small things at a time like this.

I thought back to Victoria, and the vampire fighting her. I couldn't figure it out, who it could be. Blonde, blonde… The only blonde vampire I could think of (besides Carlisle, but there was too much hair for it to be him) was… Rosalie? Rosalie wouldn't be here, let alone saving me. Even less, fighting for me.

"Jacob, who was that back there?" I asked curiously. He tensed, and shook his head.

"I… don't know," he lied and I glared at him.

"Yes. Yes, you do," I accused and he sighed heavily.

"Bella, just drop it, okay?" I felt my heart speed up a million times what it should be, and the feeling of throwing up came right back. I started shaking and my words became jumbled.

"Was it a Cullen?" I asked, hope high in my voice and my shock shined through.

"Yeah, I think so," he sighed, and I heard sadness in his voice. This confused me. "I didn't want to tell you, but I've smelt one around for a while. Not… him, I would have told you right away if it was him, or at least I'd like to think I would have, but one of his sisters. Don't be mad at me, please don't, I just… didn't want to lose you again," he whispered, and he set me down. I heard howling in the woods and I knew the other werewolves were close by. We were safe, for the moment.

"Rosalie…? But… she hates me," I pondered, looking at my feet, frowning. Jacob looked confused.

"Well, isn't there more then one girl in his family? It could have been the wife, for all I know." I shook my head.

"Esme is so much… tinier then that. It had to be Rosalie. But… I don't understand what she'd be doing here. Especially protecting me." I tried to wrap my head around it, failing completely. None of it made sense.

"I know the scent, it wasn't any outsider." I nodded.

"None of the rest of them are around, right?" I asked, and I couldn't hide the hope behind my words. He shook his head, and I felt a ripple of pain go through the hole in my chest. I sighed, nodding. I expected that answer anyway.

"Are they going after…"

"Yeah. A few are staying here though, just in case she tries to double back." He paused for a moment. "Bellla… how close are you to this Rosalie?" he asked, his voice sounding too innocent.

"Not very at all. She wasn't very fond of me at all." I frowned. "Why?" Jacob looked relieved.

"She's caught in a fight where us wolves have to attack the enemy at all costs. She… could be hurt. Especially since in all regards, she's the enemy too…" I looked at him, horrorstruck. No…

"Jacob, no!" I screamed. "No, no, NO!"

"You just said you weren't close to her!" he argued.

"That doesn't mean I want her killed! No, Jacob!" I shook my head. "Go. Go right now and if she has even one scratch on her, I blame you." He looked at me, shocked and hurt. His mouth hung open. I had no guilt. "Now!" He pouted, but ran off into the woods, shaking as he went.

I slumped down to the ground, wrapping my arms around my knees, trying to pull it together.

If Rosalie died, it would hurt Edward. And it would be my fault, all over again.
