Chapter 29: Olivia and Yunnan
Five Months Ago…
On a beautiful day in Newtopia, Marcy wears her school outfit, but her foot was casted due to her clumsiness by fall down the stairs, was staring at the view from the balcony of the castle, accompanied by Lady Olivia to see how beautiful this is.
"What? Holy moly! It's beautiful!" said Marcy as she amazed.
"Once, I said on this very same balcony with my mother and had-"
"Whoa? Is that a seagull but also a bug?" Marcy asked when pointing at the seagull bug.
"Almost the same reaction. I'm a descendant of a long line of newts who made a sacred vow to care of this land. The trees, the plants, the animals... All are under our care." said Olivia as she explains.
"Lady Olivia, you newts took me in when I landed here, fixed me up, cared for me. I promise to do my best and look after this place as well!" said Marcy showing her cute face holding Olivia's hand.
"We'll be counting on you, Master Marcy."
Marcy and Olivia hold their hands at each other. They quickly became friends after that incident and Marcy will whatever it takes to look, but unfortunately things don't go out pretty often.
Five Months Later...
It's been three weeks since the dark time, the surroundings of Newtopia are shown in dire condition from builder robberies. The entire area has eradicate everything by cutting down some trees, bulldozed some plants and animals, draining all of water that surrounds Newtopia. The robots have taken over the king's guards, relieving all of the newt guards when being put to slave. The Toad army were now put into slave as the Frog-Bots force them to work harder to make more army.
The castle of Newtopia flew over the city where every citizens was forced to work in order to keep in line by the law of the king. Lady Olivia watches from the balcony horrified at the view. Newtopia was once beautiful, but now it was nothing but a wasteland. Olivia sighed sadly believed that she has let her mother down.
Suddenly, a Frog-Bot approaches to give a message.
"Lady Olivia, you have been summoned by the King."
Olivia gulped thinking that she's in trouble and goes to King Andrias's office, but she notices that General Yunan is waiting at the door crossing her arms until noticed that Olivia is here too.
"Oh, hey. The King summoned you too? Do you know what this is about?" Yunan asked.
"No, and it's been weeks since the Plantars and Anne disappeared and we haven't heard a peep from him since. I wonder what's keeping him." replied Olivia approaching the door.
She opens the door a little so that she and General Yunan observe King Andrias, but didn't know that he was talking to someone.
"Please, my lord. Things are progressing as fast as they-" He paused when his "lord" interrupts him and speaks to him. "Yes, I know, but the device hasn't even been tested. Surely we should try it on someone else first?... (sighs) As you wish."
Olivia and Yunan close the door and walk away from him for a moment.
"Well, that was freaky." Yunan remarks.
Suddenly, King Andrias opens the door to receive Olivia and Yunan showing his smiling.
"Aaaah! You two. Come in, Come in."
Olivia and Yunan entered his office. He chuckles while open the curtain to see the view.
"Good news! You're promoted. Olivia, you will now oversee the construction of our refineries. It's time to sap this pitiful mud bowl of all its remaining resources." Lady Olivia makes a face of disagreement knowing that the King doesn't even care about the environment anymore. Then he talks to General Yunan. "And Yunan, we're gonna need frogs to work in these factories, so go round up some villagers. And if anyone resists..." Lady Olivia and General Yunan gulped when the King approach. "give them a stern talking to."
"Ooh..." Olivia sighed in relief.
"Not too bad." Yunan remarks.
"Kidding!" He teased, but then lowered his voice coldly" Terminate them!"
Both female newts were shocked.
"All right now, get to it! I have business to attend to."
Olivia and Yunan prostrate themselves before King Andrias and leave the room. By the time General Yunan closes the door, Lady Olivia is already filled with patience. She cannot let this monster destroys everything that they protect.
"That does it! I made a sacred vow to protect this land, and I cannot continue to stand idly by while King Andrias destroys it." growled Olivia.
"Lady Olivia! If you're going to talk treason..." Yunan takes Olivia and runs into a dark empty corridor so no one can hear them. Then she starts whispering.
"I insist that you do it in private!" Yunan let go of Olivia and when she turns around, she walks away for a moment "(sighs) You're dang right he's gone too far and based or whatever we just witnessed, Andrias is losing it. I for one, will not serve a mad king."
"Agreed. But we can't take him down alone. We need someone clever, someone who understands strategy, some like... Marcy Wu."
"The human? Absolutely not! In case you haven't noticed, they're all scheming backstabbers."
"I trusted Marcy, besides, she's the only one who's ever defeated King Andrias on flipwart. If anyone can outthink him, it's her."
"(chuckles) I'm plenty smart!" Her knives come off wrongly, but she managed to dodge. "Whooa! Did you see that? (chuckles) I nearly took my head off. OK, maybe we do need Marcy."
"Glad to hear it."
"But she's being held under the castle. No one is allowed down there. (whispers her) There's even a rumor she's being guarded by a horrible monster."
"A monster? Don't tell me the great General Yunan is scared of some ridiculous monster." Olivia teased.
"I see what you're doing and it's working. Lead the way, milady."
Lady Olivia guides General Yunan the way to the hallway. Once they took turns, they halted when the hallway was guarded by Frog-Bots. How could some Frog-Bots were guarding the hallway for no reason.
"Oh. We'll never get past them." said Olivia when disappointed.
"Well not with that attitude, you won't." said Yunan.
"What?"
Yunan grabs OIivia to the ceiling as the maid hold onto the general. She grabs her sword blades and swings above the Frog-Bots without getting caught. They made to the end of the hallway when Yunan lands and caught Olivia in her arms.
"And that's how it's done." Yunan smirked.
"Will you put me down already?!"
Yunan set Olivia down to the floor. They arrived in Marcy's room as they entered the girls' room. Good thing that her stuff was never taken away. Olivia took a glance at Marcy's Rangers outfit where it once folded. She remembers that night for what the King has done to this poor child. Lady Olivia shook her head and opens a trapdoor that leads them to the basement.
"Ooh! Ominous. After you, m'lady."
Olivia heads downstairs as Yunan noticed and grabs Marcy's crossbow. Olivia grabs a two torches as she gives one to Yunan.
"Remember..."
"I know. I know. Get the human and get out. She better be worth it."
Once they arrived at garden room where all plants still green with mushroom is glowing. Yunan was amazed for all this.
"Whoa. You knew this was down here?"
"Sort of. Even I was strictly forbidden to come here, but I did sneak down a few times as a girl." said Olivia petting the plant.
Suddenly, there was a roar. Yunan was startled when she a plant like creature, the Moss Man. Yunan shocked when pulled her sword blades.
"Ah! What the!?"
"Don't worry! It's harmless" Olivia intervene.
The Moss Man grows its flower on its wrist offering to Yunan.
"Take it. It's a friendship offering."
"Oh." Yunan take the flower off from the Moss Man. "Why, thank you, I think?"
They resume walking leaving the garden room and walk through the hallway. But then, a jellyfish like creatures float above them. Yunan was amazed at the creatures when it floats besides them.
"More kooky creatures? What is this place?" Yunan asked.
"I think it's where our ancestors kept all their other worldly prisoners." Olivia guessed.
"Delightful."
They exit through the hallway and found another pathway that leads to a shortcut. The main path is where Andrias came in for mis personal privacy. As they head downstairs, Olivia and Yunan arrives by the big door showing the mural arts of some eyes with newts wearing robes Olivia throws the torch in left side of the pit.
"This is it." said Olivia.
Yunan throws the torch in the right side of the pit.
"No going back now." said Yunan.
They open the door as slide aside. Once they entered the deepest dark basement, they were shocked that they have found Marcy still in the rejuvenation tank. They haven't seen her for weeks.
"There she is!" said Olivia
Olivia and Yunan walk fast towards to the tank, but they didn't noticed when a couple of eyes that were watching them. Yunan grabs Marcy out of the tank, removed the tubes attached to her jumpsuit, and then removes the mask. Marcy starts coughs and then wakes up, but tirelessly.
"(woozy) Sashy? Anne?"
Olivia and Yunan were confused at first.
"She's out of it. Wake up, human!" Yunan grab Marcy slapping her face to wake up. "WAKE UP, I SAID!"
"YUNAN!" Olivia scolded the General. "Gentle. Be gentle."
Olivia grabs a towel from behind her and wraps it around Marcy to dried her off. She gave her a teacup to Marcy and then use her teapot to pour a tea.
"Marcy, it's Olivia and General Yunan." said Olivia kindly.
"(woozy) Okey-dokey!" Marcy throws a cup of tea when woozy "Lead the way, Lady Olivia, Captain Yoohoo-"
Marcy falls to the floor flatly.
"I'm okay."
Olivia and Yunan picked Marcy up gently and leaves the room. A vent just opened and steams were hissing out. A couple of eyes projected at Marcy, Olivia and Yunan. The eyes flickered and steams were circling around them noticing what is happening when the tornado surrounds them and the light flashes on them.
"What the heck is going on?" Yunan confused.
Once they recovered, they looked at the area where a background of polluted Newtopia projected around them. They didn't know that they were in the projection.
"What in newt's name?" Yunan shocked.
"Whoa, we're outside already?" Marcy asked.
"It can't be!" Olivia gasps.
Suddenly, an unknown person walks up towards the them reveals that it turns out to be a newt.
"Mother?" Olivia dropped Marcy to the ground by accident when seeing her mother. "Is that you?"
"Olivia. The sky, the trees. How could you let this happen?"
"I'm sorry, mother. I did everything I could."
"Well..." Suddenly, her mother emerges as a beast with some frogs and newts skeletons. "It wasn't ENOUGH!
"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Olivia screams in horror.
"What is this witchcraft?!" Yunan exclaims.
"What?" Marcy confused.
She looked up and sees something above that is glitching. Now Marcy realize that they are still in the castle.
"Oh, it's a projection. You know, like VR." said Marcy.
"Vrrrrr?" Yunan confused.
"It's not real, you goof." Suddenly, another tornado starts spinning again. "The room's changing again. Just try not to freak out."
"(scoffs) Oh, please. Nothing scares the great GENERAL YUNAN! SCOURGE OF THE SANDWARS! DEFEATER OF-" Yunan pause for moment when eyes went wide once the tornado stops. "Oh no."
"What? It's just a cute little-"
"GRUBHOG!"
Yunan pointed her finger at the small Grubhog.
"You're afraid of this little cutie?" Marcy asked.
"I had a bad experience, OK? When I was a little girl, one of those monsters nearly took my arm off." Yunan remembers that day in which a grubhog bites her right arm. She screams as many children point her
Suddenly, the grubhog mutates into a larger, then more monstrous version as five more grubhogs emerge in front of Marcy and General Yunan.
"No. No. No. NOOOOO!" Yunan screams as the grubhogs chase after her leaving Marcy behind.
"Wait, come back! It's not real! It's- whoa." A tornado spins towards Marcy when the lockers emerge from the sand. Marcy started to realize that her worst fear came true. "Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no."
Marcy's worst fear is when her friends Anne and Sasha refused to apologize to her after everything they've been through. She really did brought them to Amphibia on purpose, but truth to be told that she doesn't want to be alone. Right now, she was staring at Anne and Sasha, but that's not her real friends. Her eyes went wide when both girls turns around with distorted voice.
"How could you, Mar-Mar?"
"You betray us!"
"NO! I know what I did was super dumb. I'm so sorry." Marcy's tears starts to swell a bit.
Suddenly, Anne and Sasha has fused together and grow big as they march toward Marcy.
"We want NOTHING to do with you EVER AGAIN!"
"No, please." Marcy cries.
Yunan backs up from the grubhogs against the wall as the background glitch.
Stay back! Stay-" Yunan covers one of the eyes, making a grubhog disappear. Yunan looks into the eye and when she takes her hand out, the grubhog appears again. "back?"
She repeats it over and over again until she realize what this means.
"Oh. These eyes. These eyes are making the nightmare, guys!"
"Eyes?" Marcy sees an eye and its hides. Now she realize that it's not real. "That must be where all these things are being projected from! Guys, TAKE OUT THE EYES!"
"Right!" Olivia and Yunan said with unison.
She runs into one eye as her nightmare haunts her.
"You'll pay for using MY mother's likeness!" She jumps with her right foot in front.
Olivia kicks an eye, making her fake mom disappear. Three grubhogs come up to General Yunan as she use her sword blades swipes most of the eyes, making them disappear. Marcy runs to take out the eyes as she smashes the glass.
"What the?"
Marcy stumbles on the ground and takes out eyes. The Anne-Sasha monster partially disappears. Yunan, Olivia, and Marcy takes out most of the eyes as they work together as a team.
"Whoo!" Marcy sees and points at the final eye. "There's the last one!"
Suddenly, Marcy sees Anne, Sasha, Lady Olivia's mother, and Grubhogs combined as a gigantic horrifying beast together. Marcy is not really afraid of them anymore. General Yunan pulls out Marcy's crossbow as she toss it to her.
"Marcy, here! CATCH!" Yunan toss Marcy's crossbow and then she caught it.
"That's what I'm talking about!" said Marcy.
As the ranger shoots the final eye, destroying the last of the projection, and ended their nightmarish encounter. The whole room returns to normal and the then they cheered.
"Woohoo!" Marcy cheers.
"We did it!" Yunan cheers and picks up Olivia when spinning around, but stops when suddenly realized when this is embarrassing. Yunan set Olivia down gently. "Ahem, I'm not normally one for teamwork, but uh, good job out there everyone. Very nice hustle."
"You goof." said Olivia punching Yunan in the shoulder.
"We make a good team, huh. Now let's get out of here." Marcy falls to the ground realize that her legs were too weak to walk. "Sorry. I might need help."
Olivia and Yunan gently picks her up and carries her away, but didn't realize that someone has approaching.
"Alright. Up and at 'em. Here we-"
Suddenly, a big hand shoved the three of them back as they stumbled on the floor. They looked up and shocked that King Andrias has approached them.
"Leaving so soon? But we have so much to discuss!" said King Andrias.
"But how did you..." Olivia shocked.
"Simple. We've been watching you the whole time." His crown shines a red dot that looks resemble to an eye.
Then all of sudden, a huge mechanical beast lowered itself down to them opening all thirteen eyes with a color of red, orange, and yellow. Let out a huge screech making them all three of them covered their ears.
"What the heck was that?!" Marcy exclaims.
The mysterious entity doesn't answered, but takes out its tentacle and grabs Marcy by the face.
"AAAHHH! WHOA!" Marcy screams.
"MARCY!" Olivia and Yunan shouted her name.
Marcy tried to struggle to break free from the claw, but then more claw appears when it put on some dark greyish armor plates around Marcy with two wires and place an armor chest that has the center of the eye. Once she's geared up with the boots on. the chair raises and the monster places Marcy there, making her arms and legs stuck.
She tried to break free, but it's no use. King Andrias was staring at Marcy trying to get off the chair while Olivia and Yunan were standing there shock as the King starts to explain the details about the monster.
"Behold! Our ultimate creation. A collection of Amphibia's greatest minds, preserved for all eternity."
"What are you doing, Andrias?!" Olivia asked angrily.
"Stop it, you maniac!" Yunan snaps at the King, but he ignores them pleading.
"Studying the Mossman improved our medical technology. But it wasn't until we met the shadowfish that we truly learn to conquer death. And thus, the Core was born."
"(grunt) Let me go!" Marcy shouted.
"I wish I could. But my lord craves a host. And it wanted the best, the smartest, the only one who could beat me at Flipwart."
Marcy gasp. She started to remember what he said about the Flipwart. She looked at him horrified what the King has said.
" Honestly, Marcy, I like you. Always have. I begged the core to consider an alternative host, but... alas."
By then, the tubes are attached to Marcy when she started to panic.
"What? What is this?! Huh?!" Marcy gasps.
Marcy looks up at a helmet above her. She shockingly realize that that thing is going to crawl inside her. She shake her horrified when panic. She knew that she's never going to make it. She'll never be able to see the her friends and her family again.
She took a final glance at Olivia and Yunan stood there horrified. If she didn't make it, she has something to say to Olivia, the nicest newt who took her in. Her tears started to shed one last time.
"Olivia, tell Anne and Sasha I love them so much... and... I'm sorry." said Marcy softly.
"MARCY!" Olivia screams.
"NO!" Yunan shouted.
King Andrias looks away without a reaction. He really liked her honestly, but he never meant to stab her in the back when he full rage. He felt guilty for letting his master to take over the girl's mind. Once the helmet goes on Marcy's head, she started to grunt when it hurts and then she screams in agony when orange waged all over her body.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
The Core's downloads its consciousness as soon as it went inside until its eyes fade. Marcy's head falls on her hand when she collapse. Then the Core collapses on the floor. Olivia and Yunan were gasp when horrified.
"The time has finally come for the core to lead us to our destiny. But what destiny you ask? Well, I suppose I should let it speak for itself." said King Andrias move aside to allow his master to speak.
Then suddenly, her body moves around making her bones crack. Then the Core's eyes open all ten of them, smiling creepily on her face.
"Why, hello there."
"MARCY!"
Eddie jolted up when he woke up from his nightmare. He was sweating and panted when panic. He looked around the apartment and sees Bailey still asleep when she groaned. Once he's done taking a breath, he got off from the bed that he shares with.
He's wearing his white tank top and his dark green pajamas as he walked out from the room. He walk to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Once he's done taking his drink, he set the glass down. He looked at the clock that says 3:00 am.
He sat on the couch, pulled out his necklace that's been hanging around his neck. He looked at the symbol as polish gently. He closes his eyes and started to pray if something ever has happen to his sister.
"Ancestors, please here my blessing. I know I keep repeating to myself, but I sense something has done terrible to my sister. She was trapped in another called Amphibia, a world of frogs, toads, and newts. My friend, Anne has returned home, but her friends were left behind. Please, I need answers. I want to know if she's still alive. I begged for her returning. Wish enough to see her one last time."
While he prays, his tear started to swell. When a tear drop as it land on his necklace, it started to glow silently. The full moon shines upon him through the window. From the outside, a butterfly glows green approach along with two other butterflies that are blue and pink when it glows. For what the glowing butterflies appears that there is one hope that can restore the family.
Oh dear, it appears that Marcy has been possessed by the Core's craving the host. What I don't like is when Marcy was left behind by stabbing, comatose, amd possessing! Has she been through enough already?! Enough of chit chat, right now it may lost all hope, but there is another. Hope you enjoy reading and stay tuned for the next chapter!
