Chapter 6
Tonight will be the Night
"Mitchie, I'm going to tell you something important." Shane said seriously. Mitchie put a worried look on her face. "Should I be scared?" she said quietly. "I would hope not." Suddenly, a million bad thoughts ran through Mitchie's head. Oh no… he's going to break up with me… just thinking about it almost brought tears to her eyes. No Mitchie, don't think that… she took a deep breath. "What is it?" she asked him. Shane grinned and said, "We're going to Camp Rock for two weeks!" he proclaimed. Mitchie exhaled hugely. "Really?! Why did you get all serious on me? You scared me!" Mitchie said a little angrily. Shane laughed. "Mitchie, you're so cute when you're mad." He told her. She rolled her eyes and hit him playfully. "How are we going there? We're too old to go…" she started. But Shane cut her off. "We're going to be temporary instructors. You, me, Jason, Nate, and Caitlyn!" And with that, Mitchie face light up. She was going to the place she really fit in, the place that was home to her. She hugged Shane tightly. Tears of joy came streaming down her face. Shane saw Mitchie's tears and grinned. "Don't cry! I thought you liked Camp Rock!" he said teasingly. But Shane knew she was happy.
"Hey guys we'll be at Camp Rock in 3 hours." Big Rob told them. Caitlyn and Mitchie screamed quietly. "Hey, everyone make sure you have everything for camp." Nate demanded. Mitchie, Shane, and Caitlyn went back into the bedrooms and got all of their stuff ready.
"Uh! I'm finally done!" Mitchie said sitting on her bottom bunk, squeezing her knees to her stomach. "Me too!" Caitlyn said from the top bunk. "I am so ready to be at Camp Rock!" exclaimed Mitchie. Shane sat next to her and put his arm around her shoulder. "I think we all are." All three laughed and talked for awhile. "Hey Shane, what time is it?" asked Caitlyn. "2:45 PM. We should be there in fifteen minutes." Shane said excitedly. All three got their belongings for camp and put them by the door. Nate, Jason, Shane, Mitchie, and Caitlyn sat around the living room. It was silent; they all just sat there looking at the clock. 5 more minutes… Mitchie thought. Her longing desire to get to Camp Rock must have shown on her face, because she smiled at her and hugged her quickly.
"We're here!" Big Rob yelled. Mitchie was out the door before he was finished. She saw all the buses and cars dropping their kids off, but past that was a grassy area, buildings that held classes and the mess hall, The Beach Jam stage, and the shimmering lake behind the stage. Mitchie breathed in the Camp Rock air, just as Shane had put his hand in hers. "Welcome home." He said. Mitchie had the biggest smile on her face as she looked around the camp. Uncle Brown came up to Shane and hugged him. "Welcome back Shane! I see you brought back the rest of Connect 3. Oh! Mitchie and Caitlyn as well! Good to see you!" Brown said. All five of them smiled at him and started to get things into their cabins. Connect 3 had a cabin to themselves, and Mitchie and Caitlyn got a cabin next to theirs because they were all instructors. Mitchie and Caitlyn started unpacking their things. Then she froze solid. "What is it Mitchie?" Caitlyn asked softly. She smiled. "I just remembered! I met Shane four years ago on this very day!" Mitchie said excitedly.
"OH my gosh that is so romantic!" exclaimed Caitlyn.
"What is?"
"He got you here on the day you met!"
"He probably didn't know… it was probably just a coincidence."
"Come on Mitchie! You seriously think that?"
"Maybe…"
"Come back to reality!"
Mitchie laughed. "Yeah…"
With Connect 3:
"So what time tonight, and where?" Nate asked Shane in their cabin.
"Do I really have to tell you?"
"YES! So we can make sure no one interrupts!" Jason put in.
"In the lake, I'm going to take her on a canoe and do it there."
With Mitchie and Caitlyn:
"I'm finally done unpacking!" Mitchie exclaimed. "What time is it?" she asked. The clock read 8:00 PM. There was a knock on the door. Caitlyn answered it. "Hey Shane!" "Hey is Mitchie here?" Caitlyn nodded and let Mitchie pass her. "Hey, come on I have a surprise for you." Shane pulled her out the door. Mitchie looked back to Caitlyn and put thumbs up. Shane and Mitchie took a short walk through the woods. "So what's my surprise?" Mitchie asked. Shane kept walking, but put his arm around her shoulders and squeezed her. "You'll see." Then they walked in silence, just enjoying the fact that they were alone. Suddenly, Shane went behind her and put his hands over her eyes. "Whoa… what are you doing?" she asked. Shane laughed and guided her to the edge of the dock that they met on. Then he took his hands off of her eyes and put them on her hips. Mitchie gasped at the sight.
There, in the exact place that they met, was a candle-light dinner waiting for them. She looked over the candles and saw the moon's reflection perfectly aligned on the lake to match the candles. Mitchie took a few minutes to inhale it all in, but once she did, she turned around and immediately kissed Shane, full on the mouth. After a while of snogging, Mitchie slightly parted their lips. "I love you so much." She said quietly so only Shane could hear her, even though there was no one else there. "I love you too babe." Shane said mutually. Mitchie hugged him for a very long time, and during that time, Shane picked her up wedding style (kind of convenient right?) and took her to the table he had set up. They sat at each end of the table (that was about 3 feet apart). On the plates was Spaghetti and meatballs. Mitchie laughed. "Spaghetti and Meatballs; that's so unique!" Mitchie said sarcastically. Shane laughed and leaned over to kiss her.
They ate their meal laughing, and of course flirting. Once they were finished, Shane said to Mitchie, "Let's go for a canoe ride. It's our tradition at camp!" Mitchie was happier than ever. I have the best boyfriend ever! She thought. She nodded smiling from ear to ear. Shane took her hand and led her to a canoe. They got in and paddled to the center of the lake. For a while, they just sat there, staring at each other. "So do you want to know the real reason I brought you here, to Camp Rock?" Shane asked out of the blue. Mitchie nodded. Shane put an expression on his face that made Mitchie feel amazing. Shane got down on one knee, he was completely balanced. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small mauve colored box. Then she knew what was happening. She smiled at him and he smiled back. "Mitchie, I love you and wanna spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" he asked. Shane opened the box to reveal the most magnificent ring ever. Mitchie looked at it and then to Shane, and burst into tears.
