Chapter 19
Leaving Forever
"Just tell me, Mitchie…" Shane begged softly.
Mitchie knew she had to lie, or else Shane would do something about it.
"He told me he was going to take Harmony if I don't meet him tomorrow… at…" The first part was true. It was half a lie.
"Where at?" he asked a little impatiently.
"At my Mom's house." This statement usually wouldn't make Shane convinced. So Mitchie decided to make it deeper.
"I'm a-afraid h-he'll so s-something to her or D-Dad…" it was so hard lying like this. She felt like she was going to explode at the moment, because she was so angry with herself and Troy. She hated herself for what she was doing and what she had to do tonight. She hates Troy… well because he was Troy!
Shane embraced her again in a bone-crushing hug, but that wasn't what hurt Mitchie right now. "I promise I won't let anything happen to you or your parents… or anyone… I promise." He assured.
"How can y-you p-promise that?" she asked, unsure of herself.
"Because I love you. And I'll do anything for you." He stated confidently.
He kissed her forehead.
She pretended to be sleeping, while Shane really was. She was waiting for the clock to strike eleven thirty.
Mitchie was disgusted with herself. She had bags under her eyes and looked completely depressed in the darkness. Tick. Tick.
Suddenly the clock struck eleven. Eleven o'one, eleven o'two...
After what seemed like a few hours, it was eleven thirty. Mitchie tried to sit up, but Shane's arms were wrapped to tightly around her waist and upper back.
She started to cry. This is the last time… she thought. So Mitchie wiggled out of his grip and touched his hand. It twitched, but tightened around hers. The other hand went to his face. Mitchie brushed his cheek, and felt it for the last time. Her lips were on his almost immediately. She wanted this one more time.
He unconsciously kissed her back. He was a heavy sleeper.
She broke away, in tears. She put her head to his chest, listening to his heartbeat. This sound was the last she would ever hear from him.
And with that, she sprinted from the room, being as quiet as she could. Mitchie went into Harmony's room. The beautiful baby girl was awake, still never crying. Mitchie dressed her and put on a jacket.
Quietly, Mitchie and Harmony made their way through the back yard and into the woods behind their beach house. Tears ran down Mitchie's face harder than ever before. She didn't even get to plan the huge wedding reenactment they were planning on doing.
She ran farther and farther into the woods, tripping along the way. She fell to ground in exhaustion, and landed on her back to keep the baby from being hurt. Mitchie felt her ankle crack. Searing pain ran up through her leg, and more tears filled her eyes. She would've screamed, but he would find her if she did.
It took her about an hour to get 100 yards. Then she collapsed, too weak to go on. By now, Harmony was sleeping. And Mitchie didn't care if she died, because if she couldn't have Shane, it didn't seem that she could have life.
"SHANE!" She screamed, knowing she would never be able to say it again. Once she screamed, she heard loud footsteps coming faster and faster toward her. Mitchie couldn't move, for she was sure her ankle could fall off any second. So she looked at Harmony one last time, and pushed her sleeping body wrapped in a blanket into the bushes.
The only person who was in danger now was herself. Harmony would be okay; someone would find her. Shane hopingly. Shane would be okay, for he was sleeping in bed. Nate would be okay, he would always be safe. Same with Caitlyn and Jason. So now, Mitchie's loss wouldn't be so bad after all.
She knew she was going to die at any second when she saw him. He was big and broad and had dark shadows under his eyes. He looked so… familiar. She of course had seen him before, but not like this. His hair was jet black and was a bit taller than Mitchie. And he could have been handsome, if he wasn't such a murderer.
"Hello, Mitchie." Troy said evilly. A single tear came out of her left eye as she stared at him, waiting for him to kill her. She didn't respond.
"What?" he said taking a step forward. "Not going to say hi? Shame…"
He took another step forward. "Now I'm going to give you a choice, honey. Come live a happier life with me, and marry the man of your dreams. Or you can die on the spot right here. Go ahead and pick."
Once again, she didn't answer. She would never be happy with him. He nodded. "Okay then, your choice!" Troy took another step forward and pulled out a shiny blood-stained dagger…
"MITCHIE!" Shane screamed, sprinting around the house looking for her. Nate was looking too, both men in tears. Every light in the house was on, and soon every person was up.
Nate came sprinting down the stairs, bumping smack into Shane. "Mitchie… Harmony… both…. Gone…" he said out of breath. Shane's heart stopped beating. The only two women in his life were missing. His whole world was missing.
Caitlyn called the police and they were there within five minutes. A whole team of men searched within a whole mile of the house. And after a half hour, they heard whistles blowing and an ambulance siren going off.
