Chapter 11; Moment of Truth

(Marshall wakes up in the middle of Ryder changing him)

Marshall: Huh? Wait… oh yeah… Sorry, kinda forgot about this for a second.

Ryder: Well, at least you don't have to do this anymore after this, hopefully.

Marshall: Yeah… hopefully. *yawns* I'm really tired. But, I want to stay awake, so I'm not sleepy during my appointme… (falls asleep)

(Ryder laughs to himself and picks Marshall up after he finishes changing him)

(They walk out and drive off)

*10 minutes later*

(Ryder parks out in the parking lot, and Marshall wakes up)

Marshall: Wait, where are we?

Ryder: We're at your checkup to see if you are good to go.

Marshall: Oh yeah… wait, where is my uniform?

Ryder: You don't need it.

Marshall: But what about this? (Points at his diaper)

Ryder: Don't worry about that; I've got it all covered.

(Ryder grabs Marshall's blanket and wraps him up in it)

Ryder: Alright, let's go.

Marshall: Okay!

(Walks in and to the front desk)

Ryder: Hello, I'm here for an appointment with Dr. Stephenson. First name, Marshall. Last name, Prescott.

Receptionist: Okay, he will be right with you!

Ryder: Okay, thank you!

(Ryder sits down with Marshall. He looks at Marshall and notices that he has fallen asleep once again)

Ryder: He must have had a long night.

(Nurse walks in from the other room)

Nurse: Marshall?

(Ryder gets up and follows her into the other room)

Nurse: The doctor will be with you shortly.

Ryder: Okay! Thanks!

Marshall: (starts tossing in his sleep and starts crying)

Ryder: Marshall, wake up. It's just a dream.

Marshall: (wakes up) Huh? Oh…

Ryder: You okay?

Marshall: Yeah…

Ryder: You want to talk about it?

Marshall: Well, I just…

(Someone knocks on the door)

(Dr. Stephenson walks in)

Dr. Stephenson: Hello, how are we doing?

Ryder: We're good. Excited to be done.

Dr. Stephenson: I'm sure it was rough. If you don't mind, I'll go ahead and take a look at his leg.

Ryder: Of course! (Sets Marshall down on the bed)

Dr. Stephenson: (takes off the blanket) Do you need to go to the bathroom before I take your diaper off?

Marshall: I'm good!

Ryder: Are you really sure?

Marshall: Yes. I'm really sure.

Dr. Stephenson: Okay, then I'll go ahead and take this off… Any accidents since the last time we saw him?

Ryder: Just one, not wearing his diaper, and someone scared him.

Dr. Stephenson: Ahhh… I see… That's alright!

(Dr. Stephenson looking at Marshall's stitches)

Dr. Stephenson: Okay, they look good! It looks like we are ready to take them out! (Grabs tweezers)

Marshall: Wait, does taking them out hurt?

Dr. Stephenson: Nope, it shouldn't hurt at all. If it does, let me know, and I can stop.

Marshall: Okay!

Dr. Stephenson: (Takes out stitches) Okay! All done!

Marshall: Already?!

Dr. Stephenson: Yup! I told you it wouldn't hurt!

Ryder: Well, what does he need to do now?

Dr. Stephenson: He needs to not go back to work. He can walk on it, but he needs to go through P.T. before we let him work again. So we will give you a knee brace that you must wear at all times for the next two weeks. He may also need to wear it when exercising.

Ryder: Okay, sounds great!

(Dr. Stephenson puts the brace on Marshall)

Dr. Stephenson: Now, how's that feel?

Marshall: Good! I feel like I can walk again!

Dr. Stephenson: Okay perfect! Now, if you need anything just call me and let me know. Oh, also, since he hasn't used his leg in a while, it may collapse at random times. So if it does, just give it a minute before you get back up.

Marshall: Okay! Thanks!

(Marshall jumps down off the bed and doesn't stick the landing)

Marshall: I'm good.

(Everyone laughs)
