Rem manages to convince Subaru to let her travel with him after the White Whale battle. As of a result, she avoids being eaten by the Archbishop of Gluttony. Subaru was within the Taygeta library. He finds a book titled by the name of Flugel. Subaru was curious about who this man was, as Shaula referred to him as Flugel. He decided to open the book and, to do so, saw the truth of the Great Calamity. After viewing Flugel's Book Subaru's name gets eaten but Louis and the entire world timeline gets reset to account for Subaru not existing.

Subaru's name is eaten instead of Julius. However, Subaru, once his name is eaten, is brought to be questioned. He develops a hatred for Gluttony and the Witch Cult for what they did. After a few weeks of still being detained, Subaru gets help from a Heavenly Dragon as now Subaru can complete his goal of eradicating the Witch Cult.

Subaru knows a heroes' journey is never easy - full of trials and hardship - and decided that he is content with his life on earth. But after being sent to Lagunica against his wishes, and granted a cheat-like power he never asked for, Subaru makes it clear he doesn't want an adventure - he just wants to be left alone and to eat a good meal. Subaru has never had much trouble disregarding the actions of his friends in the failed loops before. Unfortunately, it's proving to be just a tiny bit challenging this time. (Another timeline of quandary : Subaru doesn't get eaten)

Subaru vows to change his mindset to shed his slothfulness, to become the Hero. But brute forcing the first deathloop was never the right answer. And Subaru slowly loses sight of his original convictions.
