Though the weight on his back made his wet sandals slide on the branches, he wished it was twice as heavy.
He had tried to reach out to him, really he did, but Kakashi was returning home with only one boy on his back.
Seeing Sasuke had been like looking into a mirror at his younger self. Kakashi knew loneliness, loss, and betrayal. A person could drown in them. Kakashi had offered the boy his hand but he couldn't stop him from sinking. Now only two remained.
Kakashi wondered, if he had done things differently, could he have saved him?
