The dessert was a lie.
Chell, wandering around the small town she lived in, stopped to find a small bakery. It looked like it had really nice treats in there, and she remembered she didn't have any food since breakfast. She decided to stop in for a little snack.
"Hello, Miss." a small, skinny woman appeared, she looked the age of 27. Her curly black hair was almost all in her face.
"Hello." Chell responded, eyeing the food.
"Was there any food in particular you were looking for?" the woman asked.
"No, just looking for a small snack." she said.
"I could cut you a piece of cake, if you like.."
Cake. The last thing she wanted on her mind. "You have that here?"
"The cake is here. It's not a lie." the woman was looking directly at Chell.
Chell didn't know what to do. She certainly didn't want any cake. And, did not want to be reminded of what memories lurked in her brain...
The cake is here. It's not a lie. it was almost as if GLaDOS was trying to communicate with her. Realizing how long it was taking herself to respond, she cleared her throat and spoke again.
"No thanks. I don't really think I want...cake." Chell said.
"Okay. What would you like?" the woman asked.
"Just...a brownie, I guess."
Now that Chell couldn't get Cake and Aperture out of her mind, she didn't even notice the woman scooping up the brownie and handing it to her in a napkin.
"Miss,"
"Oh, i'm sorry." Chell apologized and took the brownie. "Just caught up in things."
"That's fine. I'm sure we all have trouble focusing when important things come to mind." she smiled.
The thoughts were important things, just ones she wanted to forget so much.
She took a bite of the brownie and left the bakery.
She couldn't even handle hearing about cake again.
