As he sat there looking at the tombstone that marked the grave of one of his best friends and the love of his life, Edward Elric looked up at the overcast sky just in time to see a flash of lightning streak across the clouds.
Then the rain started.
The downpour reminded the blond boy of some of the more intimate times the two had shared. Memories like their first kiss on the beach (he had complained about how Ed tasted of sea salt), the first time they showered together, fighting side by side against the homunculi, when they went horseback riding (To this day Ed swears he has never walked the same after it). The two's first fight (Ed lost that one), even all the times he was scolded was fond in Ed's memories, and the memories just kept coming.
"Damn you!" Ed screamed at the sky, as if it would change anything. "How dare you die on me before I could tell you?"
The one he was now mourning had been with him every step of the way through his journey. The one that Ed loved above all others. The one he would never be able to hold in his arms again and finally say to him "I love you".
Ed then got the feeling that he had known, had always known, how Ed felt about him. With that thought, the storm of emotions and thoughts inside him quieted just a little bit. Ed knew that his feelings had been reciprocated too.
The rain finally stopped and Edward Elric heard his name being called. He got up, brushed himself off, and headed towards his brother Alphonse.
"C'mon Nii-san," Al said, "it's time to go"
As the brothers left, Ed took one last look at where his lover was buried.
"Good-bye," he said, "Roy Mustang"
Ed turned around and jogged to catch up to his brother. As he did so, he thought, "At least nobody has to worry about you breaking down their door anymore"
The thought made him smile.
