"Action!"
"Look, if you can find it in your heart to take me back, I promise, I will do my damnedest to make sure we don't put any spaghettiOs in your body."
"Okay," said Trevor, with real sorrow in his eyes, "But you should know, that other doctor and I, he thought I had polyps…"
"Sheeeghhh, I, I don't wanna know," Darren said, turning his back to Trevor and throwing his hand up in the air. "Besides, I've seen some other patients since you left."
"Oh my god…" said Trevor, "What are we doing here…"
"Do we really have a chance at making this crazy thing work?" Trevor said.
Darren turned and took a step toward Trevor. "I think so," he said.
Trevor also took a step forward, "You do?"
Darren stood on tiptoe with the tongue depressor in his hand as they leaned toward each other, and Darren kissed Trevor full on the mouth.
They held the kiss for one second and then they both pulled back with startled expressions on their faces. Darren was absolutely dumbfounded.
"Cut!"
Trevor looked at Darren with a bewildered look on his face. "Yeah," he turned to the crew, "Fifteen minute break, everyone!"
Darren was still dazed when Trevor pulled him out for a stroll around the hospital.
"Why'd you do that?" Trevor asked softly, as they steered to the left to avoid a pregnant woman racing down the aisle.
Darren still didn't say anything.
Trevor stopped and held Darren by the shoulders, but gently. "Why did you do that?" he asked again, his voice still soft.
Darren looked at him like he was speaking Greek. Then he tiptoed and kissed Trevor. Again.
Trevor blinked a couple times. He looked into Darren's unseeing eyes and snapped his fingers.
"Oh! Did I, uh, did you…" Darren said.
"Darren. You kissed me. Twice." Trevor quietly said.
"Oh! That." said Darren, and they started walking again. "Um…"
"Are you okay?" Trevor asked.
"Oh yeah, I'm fine," Darren assured. "It's just, you know, you can't expect me to lean in and not kiss you."
They swerved to the right to avoid an old man on a speeding wheelchair.
"What the—no." Trevor said, "What?"
"Look, I'm sorry, I won't do that again." said Darren.
They walked on randomly around the hospital, looking everywhere but at each other. Darren studied the floor of the hospital and discovered a rather unique but logical pattern. Trevor learned that only his right thumb had a full swirl in the middle of the fingerprint.
They walked on quietly, fully aware and alert of the other's movements.
They ducked at the same time when a nurse threw an IV bag to another nurse from across the room.
They walked on quietly.
Finally, Trevor cleared his throat.
Darren immediately responded. "I really won't do it again."
"Wait, no, um, I mean, uh…what if…" Trevor mumbled, "What if I want you to do it again."
Darren looked straight at Trevor. Trevor pretended not to notice and avoided his gaze.
He put a hand on Darren's arm and half-pushed him to the emergency stair-case, still not looking at Darren. He shut the heavy metal door behind him, and pushed Darren up against the wall in front of him. Looking out the corner of his eyes at the stairway, he put his lips up to Darren's and kissed him.
They both closed their eyes as they enjoyed the kiss. Darren placed and hand on Trevor's cheek and Trevor put his arm around Darren's waist. The clock hanging on the wall fell to the ground with a crash. A stone flew through the eighth floor window and the glass shattered. They kissed for some time.
"Hey…" Trevor murmured, "We should probably get back…"
Darren pulled back suddenly and caught Trevor off guard. He looked him right in the eye. They held the gaze for a moment, Trevor's eyes slightly wide with alarm.
They looked at each other.
And Trevor leaned in close and kissed Darren with all he had.
