"Mr Schue? If I may?" Kurt's hand flew into the air the second the Glee Club Director walked into the room.

"You may" Mr Schue smiled at him.

Kurt got up and stood in front of the class. It was then that Mr Schue noticed something a little different about Kurt's attire. Kurt had recently joined the Cheerios – or rather been forced to join – and would normally wear his Cheerios uniform as the squad had practice every day. However, today Kurt had dispensed with the red and white ensemble in favour of a plain black shirt and black pants with matching black tie. The boy almost looked as if he were in mourning.

"I would like to sing a song that is very dear to my heart and which means a lot to me, especially at this time. It is a called 'A House is Not a Home' by Dionne Warwick."

Kurt went over to the piano and whispered something in Brad's ear, who nodded and took the proffered sheet music from Kurt. Kurt began to sing:

A chair is still a chair
Even when there's no one sitting there.
But a chair is not a house
And a house is not a home
When there's no one there to hold you tight
And no one there you can kiss goodnight.

A room is still a room
Even when there's nothing there but gloom.
But a room is not a house
And a house is not a home
When the two of us are far apart.
And one of us has a broken heart.

Now and then I call your name
And suddenly your face appears.
But it's just a crazy game
And when it ends,
It ends in tears.

So darling, have a heart.
Don't let one mistake keep us apart.
Well, I'm not meant to live alone,
Turn this house into a home.
When I climb the stair and turn the key,
please be there,

Still in love with me.

When Kurt finished the song, everyone looked at him in awe, but Finn just looked pissed.

Mercedes went up to hug Kurt and whispered in his ear, "Good job babe. She would have been so proud."

Kurt sniffed and wiped away a few tears. "Thanks Mercedes. I really needed to hear that." He hugged her back.

Finn stalked up to Kurt, Rachel pulling on his arm and trying to hold him back. "Just leave it Finn!" she yelled.

"No! This is not on!" Finn seethed. Rachel left, looking huffy.

"What the HELL was that?" he practically growled at Kurt.

"What was what?" asked Kurt, confusedly.

Finn lowered his voice. "You were singing a love song and looking at me the entire time. I know you have feelings for me but I don't feel the same way."

Kurt didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Are you out of your mind? That song was not for you."

"Then who was it for, and why were you looking at me the entire time?"

"I was focussing on you because I thought you might understand. Cleary I was wrong."

"What are you talking about?"

"Do you know what day today is?"

"Um...Tuesday?"

"It's my mother's anniversary." Kurt said sadly.

"Your – oh" Finn's face softened. "I'm really sorry dude."

"Its nine years since she died and that was her favourite song." said Kurt, looking at the floor.

"I really am sorry dude" said Finn, sounding genuinely sorry.

"Yeah, well if you had ever listened to me all those times you came over to watch the game with me dad..." Kurt trailed off.

Finn looked awkward. "I am really sorry. I shouldn't jump to conclusions."

"It's alright." Now Kurt looked awkward. "You were right about the crush. But I know it's unrequited, and that's fine. My feelings will go away soon.

Finn nodded. He would have to ask Rachel what 'unrequited' meant.

"So are we still friends" asked Finn after a moment of silence.

"Of course" said Kurt, smiling.
