** The first Great World War **
"Arthur keeps asking for our help, Nicole." Alfred said as he watched his sister cultivate their small garden. He heard her scoff. Her hands delicately plucked tomatoes from their vines.
"Well, that's too bad for him. We are staying neutral in this war. It's what we have done and what we will always do." She replied as she carried the basket into their house.
Alfred couldn't help the smile that played on his lips. He and Arthur had already thought of that. Arthur said all the Allies need is the morale boost of the extra troops. And, well Alfred wanted to help out, especially now that Russia had declared itself a republic.
"Well, then you might want to read this. It was sent by Arthur Zimmerman, a German, to Mexico. Arthur had intercepted it." Alfred said while holding out a piece of paper. He watched as she slowed down, and set down her basket. She eyed the paper.
"Okay, what does it say?" She asked while snatching the paper from his hand. Her blues eyes smoldered in anger as she began to read. How dare the Germans think they could attack them?!
"That's it! You go over there and fight this war. I'll handle the home front." She said sternly, abandoning her vegetables to head up stairs.
"Where are you going?" Alfred asked.
"To get ready for war."
To say that Arthur was thankful was an understatement. Alfred had provided the troops he needed. Even if, they were incompetent. It was what the Allies had needed to win the war.
However, he was quite surprised to see that Nicole had stayed on the home front. He had thought that she would want to be on the front lines. And when he had asked Alfred about it, he had said that she represented the isolationists in their country and that she was backing the war on the home front, stabilizing things there.
And, it was quite intriguing that Alfred and Nicole were okay with the other nations thinking that only one person was representing America, and that it was Alfred.
"Nicole! I have the treaty for you to sign!" Alfred yelled as he walked into the house. His uniform was now consisting of light brown camis with an Air bomber jacket on. He walked around searching for Nicole, only to find her with a military styled suit on and in the kitchen.
"Nicole, here sign this!" He exclaimed enthusiastically, thrusting the paper out towards her. She hesitantly grabbed the sheet of paper, and began reading the contents. Her eyebrows furrowed together as she read the contents. She knew she didn't like the current president, Wilson. He was too soft.
"No. This is unacceptable. This clause about the League of Nations is unacceptable." She replied, handing back the unsigned treaty back. Alfred's eyes narrowed.
"Why?"
"We had promised to stay neutral in European Affairs. I don't want to get permanently pulled into their affairs. Go and make a separate treaty with the Central powers."
