Note: The beginning of the fanfic – the part in italic – is a part of the book, page 374.
We held hands right up to the moment they dumped us into the water.
Afterward, I had the last laugh. I made an air bubble at the bottom of the lake. Our friends kept waiting for us to come up, but hey - when you're the son of Poseidon, you don't have to hurry.
And it was pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time.
Seconds before they throw us on the water, I wished Annabeth wouldn't get wet, which wasn't difficult considering out intertwined hands.
We sank a few meters, normal by the pressure and the impulse we were dumped, but while we were staring to rise, I created an air bubble that involved us and I asked it to be still, right where it was.
Annabeth looked at me, her eyes glowing. She had seen me do many "impossible" things on water, and I had even used the power of being dry with her and Tyson, my brother, but she seemed marveled with what I had done. Obviously, she'd never admit it aloud.
"This is… amazing." She murmured, the voice muffled in the space we were in.
"Being son of the sea god has its perks, right?" I answered, my voice a little muffled too.
She smiled to me, and I realized that I hadn't stopped smiling for a minute since the campers took us on their shoulders.
I glanced at our linked hands, and realized that they were our only connection point – besides the giant air bubble surrounding us, but that wasn't important – and how there were considerable inches between us.
I thought about pulling her closer, by the hand, but a better idea came to me. I asked the water flow to move the bubble just a few inches, but fast, and that made Annabeth lose her balance and fall on me, grabbing fiercely at my neck with the shock.
I smiled at her, feeling her breath on my face. We were very close. She looked me in the eyes for a few seconds before rolling her eyes and smiling, a little disbelieving. "You are worthless, Perseus Jackson".
I laughed loudly with her before doing what I really wanted with all of that: kiss her.
I know we were in an air bubble, ergo the feeling should be the same than on earth, but I guarantee it was different. And very, very good.
"Shouldn't they have come back by now?" A kid from the Apollo cabin asked, in the middle of everyone.
"Hm. I guess we forgot what he can do underwater." Said Connor Stoll, unhappy. The prank had gone wrong.
"Own, that's so romantic!" Said a daughter of Aphrodite.
"I don't think they'll be coming back any time soon." A Son of Dionysius said already going away.
A lot of the campers murmured in agreement and followed the half-blood, some decided to sit by the lake and wait to see how long they could be down there.
Standing, with half of the legs in the water, was Clarisse. She smiled in the corner of her mouth and murmured, "Enjoy, Seaweed Brains."
