Disclaimer: I don't own X-Men. I don't own them in chapter 8, either.

Ch.9

The small compound was located on a rocky island that overlooked a body of water, presumably an ocean. The building was made of metal, as its creator favored the material over all others.

"Are you sure she will find our cause in the right?" asked a throaty female voice. The voice belonged to a tall red-haired woman, who also happened to be dark blue.

"No. We have ways of making her do as we tell her, remember." A man wearing a red helmet and dark cloak answered.

"Surely you aren't planning on actually using that potion on her, Erik? After it was used on you… I didn't think you would favor it as an option."

The old man looked to his younger partner. "My dear Mystique, just because I hold that horrible concoction as an option, does not mean I favor it. If there were other ways I would use them, but I am afraid… In these times, we must do everything—anything we can! Even if it means that." He points in disgust at a few vials worth of clear liquid.

There is a knock on the metal door.

"What do you want now, Pyro?" Erik asks the door, and soon a teenaged boy is walking through the threshold. The boy is tall with lanky brown hair and an arrogant smile. He carries a lighter and is constantly flicking it open and closed.

"Just wanted to know when we're figuring the time is right." The boy, Pyro, sounds as arrogant as his smile shows and he steps forward towards the pair. He seemed to be continuing a conversation had between himself and the man previously.

"Soon." And in an undertone so that the boy cannot hear, "and then, perhaps, you will not have to keep annoying me with that silly toy."

Firefly awoke on Wednesday morning at five as always. It was different today, as she had camped out on the couch the previous evening.

Firefly would have humored Kitty and the others, but she had been so tired and they had sounded so annoyingly serious with the talk of, "a girl-to-girl chat," that she really didn't want to pretend to care at that precise moment.

She would face them later on in the day…
