Firefly was confused. She doubted herself at this very moment, exactly 2:34a.m. Thursday morning. This had been a confusing month.
She had been kidnapped. She had been kidnapped from her school, and no one had rescued her yet. There was no hope of escape. The only way off the island was helicopter, which she didn't know how to fly.
She had fought. Fought hard. And long. She had beat the hell out of one Pyro, who lay sleeping in his bed on the other side of the room. Multiple times.
She had used her power. Fire had flown, sparks lit the entire training room.
Firefly had not been injured. This scared her more than her captors. Out of her month-long stay at the Brotherhood's hide-out, she had never been hurt more than even one of her training sessions at Xavier's. And what frightened her about this was she was beginning to like not being burned every day.
She enjoyed her time with Pyro and Mystique and Magneto. Playful banter was exchanged regularly, a smile shared between blue mutant and youngest. She even found herself going softer on the boy when they sparred. She even found herself enjoying her time with him, learning to appreciate his cynical humor.
That disturbed her most of all.
Firefly wondered if anyone even realized she was gone. There were quite a few students at her old school.
But, surely, Logan would notice her missing. He would realize, after a few days of her not coming to the kitchen, that she was not sick, but kidnapped.
Then again, maybe he would enjoy her absence. Maybe he would sleep in like he used to. Maybe he would enjoy not having to deal with her childish problems. Maybe he wouldn't care.
Kitty would notice, she had to. She wouldn't miss Firefly, probably, but she would notice.
Firefly wondered if her parents even knew she wasn't at school.
She hadn't had many friends at the school. Just the guy she had occasionally lent a pencil to in Math. That boy had always looked at her funny, as if he wanted to say something, but didn't. Perhaps he hated her, anyway.
Pyro tries to convince her, every day, that he and the Brotherhood are her only friends now.
What scared Firefly most of all, out of all of these things, was that she was starting to believe him.
Firefly was confused.
Logan was angry. Angry that he was frightened. He was the Wolverine. Never afraid.
The girl had been gone a month. Her parents had been informed and were furious. Kitty was barely ever perky anymore, which was a first. The teachers tried not to show it, but they were unnerved. And the Professor checked to see if Firefly showed up on Cerebro every five minutes.
Logan was getting jumpy. He knew what lengths Magneto would go to for mutant prosperity. He almost killed Rogue, after all.
They hadn't seen hide nor hair of any of the Brotherhood since Firefly's kidnapping.
Logan was angry.
"Fantastic, simply fantastic. My dear, you are ready!" Magneto circled Firefly in the training room. Firefly had been glowing with pride before she heard the last sentence. Now she was curious.
"Ready for what?" Firefly asks warily. Her eyes dart to the smirking pair in the corner. Pyro gives her an actual smile, allowing her some confidence.
"Your mission, child. What we brought you here for."
Firefly frowns. "And what was that exactly? I forget things."
Magneto smiles widely at her, like a proud grandfather smiling over a prodigy grandchild. "You and Pyro will burn the X-Men to ash. And after that, you will brand our message into the world."
A/N: Again, I have no excuses, only apologies. I would like all the fans who don't hate me to know, that I have finished writing all the plot action for this fic, and it will be coming to an end soon. Thank you for reading.
