This idea actually came to me while listening the song "Why Do You Love Me" by Garbage.
Disclaimer: Own Stargate? Don't I wish! No, really, this would be my first Genie wish. Seriously.
Spoiler Warning: Very, very slight, practically non-existent one for S10 E20 Unending.
Why Do You Love Me?
"Daniel, why do you love me?"
"Huh? What?" Daniel's head shot up as the book he'd been reading fell to his lap. He stared wide-eyed as Vala joined him in bed, nonchalantly filing her nails. She appeared oblivious to the effect of her words but he knew better.
"Why do you love me, darling?" she repeated with a shrug, still not bothering to look at him.
"Vala, that's a very complicated question."
"No it's not. That is, unless you don't love me." Vala finally put down her nail-file and looked at him hesitantly.
"Of course I love you, Vala." he told her, taking her hands in his and kissing each knuckle individually. "As to the why...honey, I don't think anyone can answer that question effectively or completely."
"I can." she told him with fierce certainty.
"You can?"
"Of course, darling. I know exactly why I love you."
"All right, why do you love me?"
"Because you're sexy, intelligent, kind, generous-"
"Okay, I get it." He held up a hand with a chuckle. "But, sweetheart, you could have found those attributes in a lot of people. Why did you choose me?"
"Because, Daniel, you believed in me. You took a chance on me when no one else would, not even me. You are the only person besides my mother who ever me made me believe in myself. You made me believe that I could be something more than what I thought I was born to me."
"Really?"
"Yes, darling. Now, why do you love me?"
"Well, I could say it's because you're sexy, intelligent, kind and generous, but-"
"But you'd be lying." Vala snorted derisively, looking away. "Except for the sexy part, of course."
"No." Daniel said, gently turning her head to face him. "It wouldn't be a lie because you are all of those things and so much more. I've never met any one so full of life as you. You can pull me out of my dusty books and dead civilisations and make me want to live in the present. No one has ever been able to do that before. And you push me. Ever since my wife died, every one has treated me with kid gloves, as though I'm going to break at the slightest touch. But you never have. Even after you learnt of Sha're, you still pushed. It made me feel alive again. You make me feel alive."
"See, darling, I told you it wasn't a complicated question." Vala responded in a watery voice.
"You were right." Daniel told her as he wiped away a stray tear and kissed her.
"Well, enough of that." Vala said as she pulled away, placing her nail-file on the side table before curling down into the blankets. "I promised Samantha I'd help her with the Asgard core tomorrow so I should really get some sleep."
"Wait a minute. After a conversation like that, you want to go to sleep?" Daniel stared down at her incredulously.
"Well, yes, darling." She turned slightly to give him a bemused smile. "I told you, I need the rest."
"Oh, I don't think so." Daniel moved swiftly to lay over Vala, a wicked grin on his face.
"What are you doing?"
"Have you learnt the Earth concept of show and tell?"
"Oh, yes. I saw it on a television show once, but what does that have to do with this?"
"Well, I think we should do our own version of show and tell. We've already don't the telling, so..."
"Daniel, you naughty man, you." Vala said in an exaggeratedly shocked voice.
"You have no idea." he promised, sealing her lips with his before she could say another word. It was time for the show part and he was committed to being as thorough as he could.
The End
