The Marauders' Map

"George!" Fred said exclaimed.

The two boys had managed to direct Filch's attention elsewhere, so they were now alone in the old caretaker's office. Fred had been rifling through Filch's drawers with the help of an unlocking charm, and George had been keeping watch.

"I found a piece of parchment in one of Filch's drawers. Why was it in a locked drawer? It must be something magical…" Fred continued.

"Take it; I think I can hear Filch coming back!" George replied hurriedly.

The boys hurried back to their chairs and waited for Filch to come back into the room. Filch was even angrier than before and the two boys pretended to listen whilst Filch ranted at them, ending with a detention each. Once dismissed, they hurried off to a deserted classroom to have a look at what Fred had found.

George poked at it, and wondered aloud what it did.

At once, writing appeared on the map:

Mssrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs enquire as to your nature.

Padfoot wonders if the two boys would take the oath.

Fred said hesitantly, not really sure if the parchment would respond to his voice. "Urm, I guess you could say we like to stir up trouble. I am not sure if we have had a week at Hogwarts without detention." He joked.

"And what oath?" George added.

Prongs accepts your nature.

Moony thinks that the boys should take the oath.

Wormtail agrees with Moony about the red haired boys.

The boys blinked in shock that not only had the piece of parchment heard them, but knew what they looked like.

"What oath?" George repeated.

Padfoot suggests that you would have access to a pranking treasure if you take the oath.

Wormtail agrees with Padfoot.

Prongs thinks that the boys are probably confused.

Moony agrees with Prongs and would like to add that the wording of the oath is:

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

The marauders wish that you use the treasure that comes with this oath well.

Curiously, George said the oath out loud, and both boys gasped as the piece of parchment suddenly grew little lines of ink, which they quickly grew to realise represented the halls of Hogwarts. Even more surprising to them was that the map was covered in little dots with names attached to them. They saw their own dots.

As they saw all of this, identical grins grew across their faces. They were going to have a lot of fun with this map.

"How do we hide the map?" Fred asked, slightly concerned that it would be discovered by a dorm mate or even a teacher.

Instantly, scrawling writing appeared on the map, saying mischief managed.

Fred repeated this and grinned as the map disappeared. Who knew talking to a piece of parchment could be so enlightening.

From that moment on, Fred and George became fearsome pranksters and idolised the Marauders who had made it all possible.

A/N I always wondered how Fred and George knew the password to the Marauders' map, so I made up my own idea.
