I'm so sorry for keeping everyone waiting forever. I'm terrible about procrastinating. I'll try to be better I promise. Well here is a new chapter for those waiting patiently. Hopefully I post another chapter before next week is over. I'm going to apologize in advanced for any mistakes. I don't have anyone to read over it after I write. Thank y'all so much for the reviews!
A small knock hit her office door creating an echo in the room. She stood still at the window watching the rain drops trickle down. Every thought she had disappeared every time it rained like this or when they lost a fellow officer. She hasn't done this since she was in FID.
"Sharon…" Rusty tried once again to get her attention. "Are you ready to go? Everyone is waiting."
She walked over to her purse and pulled out a small mirror to check her bun and make-up. She caught a glance at the scar on her forehead just below her hairline. Sharon tried to cover it up but nothing seemed to work. It was as if it served the purpose to remind her of the most terrifying night of her life. To remind her of a person who sacrificed their life to save her. "Yeah I'll be out in a minute."
The blonde young man sighed and nodded. He understood the need to be alone, but during a loss people need to be close and not drift apart. Rusty almost turned around and rushed to Sharon's side. He wanted to hug her tight and protect the mother figure she had become to him. He wanted to sooth her with comforting words like tell her she'll make it through this or everything is going to be okay. Instead, Rusty walked out of her office and closed the door behind him.
After he left, Sharon was once again left alone in her thoughts. Nothing is more painful and traumatizing than remembering scenarios and outcomes of what could have happened. In her mind she predicted a lot of things, but this outcome never came to mind.
Before she walked out to head to the funeral, she grabbed her purse and hat. This is going to be a hell of a day. She thought. As she walked out of her office she heard Lieutenant Flynn ask the whole group, "Who's coming with me?"
Sharon turned around to face them all. Toa and Sykes went with Flynn. Provenza left with Buzz. Rusty rode with Sharon.
At the funeral….
"A week ago a family lost a loved one. The LAPD lost an officer. A wife lost her husband, but heaven gained an angel…." The preacher went on as all attendants listened.
Andy looked next to him to see Sharon. She seemed anywhere but there at the moment. God he wished he didn't have to see her like this. It's not like her to zone out of conversations or speeches or to forget things. She always listened closely to what someone had to say and remember everything. The doctor said it would take a while for her to get back to normal and even then she wouldn't be the same as before.
After some consideration of whether to leave her alone with her thoughts, he thought to hell with it. Flynn leaned over and whispered into her ear. "Are you okay?"
Captain Raydor could feel his warm breath lingering close to her ear. It felt like a heater in the cold late autumn air. Maybe before it would have been comforting to have someone to talk to, but this was not the time to describe why she hated being asked if she was okay. To an outsider it would seem like a simple question, but to her it wasn't. She could never be okay or alright. Sharon was terrified and alert to her surroundings almost in a paranoid way. What if someone else came after her again for something Chief Johnson did? She asked herself repeatedly.
By saying yes would only mean she was lying, but saying no would give Andy a reason to question her more. So all she did was stare at him. Not in the eyes as it was too personal and then looked away.
The preacher said the Lord's Prayer as the men and women closed their eyes and bowed their heads. "…For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen." He finished as the casket was lowered.
The service ended when the bagpipes began to play. The division gave their condolences to the wife of the husband. They all ended up in a small group of their own after.
Sanchez asked the whole group "Is anyone hungry? We could stop for pizza?"
Rusty (as being the growing teenager he is) was the first to reply. "Yes! I'm starving." He made small circle around his stomach to emphasize. Everyone followed with a 'yeah, sure, or a me too' except for Sharon.
"I think I'll pass. I'm not feeling to well." She half-heartedly smiled so neither he nor anyone else became too worried about her.
Provenza chimed in, "You can come with me Rusty. If the Captain doesn't mind that I bring you back home afterward."
"Can I Sharon?" The boy asked with puppy dog eyes.
She considered saying no just so she can keep him with her for comfort, but instead said yes. Of course they loved each other but she guessed they should have a little time away from one another even if the break wasn't needed. "Be home by eight please."
He was bouncing with excitement. "Thanks Sharon." With that, everyone got into their cars and left.
Sharon lay on her bed. Her shoes and uniform were switched with a green V-neck shirt and grey sweat pants. She had her hands rest on top of her stomach. All she did was stare at the ceiling only thinking about the man that they put to rest today.
He saved both mine and Lieutenant Flynn's life.
A week ago:
When James pulled the trigger, out of nowhere another officer working in FID whom Sharon taught everything to jumped in front of Andy and took a bullet to the chest. Flynn then tackled James to the ground and arrested him. The rest of the team and some LAPD officers came and got him from Andy's hold while Toa leaned down to check the wounded officer's pulse. Only then did they realize he died at impact.
Andy rushed to Sharon and helped her to the ambulance to get looked at. She sat on the gurney inside of the van so the paramedic could see the gash on her head.
When the man touched it she winced. "Yeah she is defiantly going to need stitches." He turned to face Flynn. "Take her to the doctors to get her head check out. She may have a concussion."
Andy responded with an okay and grabbed Sharon to take her to the ER.
Most of the way there the car ride was silent. Andy thought the Captain was asleep. "What happened?" She asked and he slightly jumped from being startled.
Andy was driving with one hand with the other was brought up to his face to scratch his chin. "Well uh, James hit you in the head and then he uh…shot at me"
"I suppose he missed?" She turned to face him. Sharon was defiantly out of sorts at the moment.
Andy thought about the man who took a bullet for him. He's been thinking about it since it happened. That man gave him a second chance to live his life and by god's witness he will not waste it.
He cleared his throat and told her the story. "What was his name?" She asked innocently.
"Um Lieutenant David Michaels." Andy uttered barely above a whisper. His eyes never left the road until he didn't hear a reply. He looked over to Sharon. Tears rolled down her rosy cheeks. This affected her in many ways he could never understand. David was twenty three when he joined internal affairs. He was like the over grown son she never had. They were very close, so close that they kept contact since she joined Major Crimes.
"Oh my god." She covered her mouth with her hand and began sobbing. Shaking her head in disbelief and leaning over as the nausea flooded her system.
Andy pulled into the parking lot at the hospital at that very moment and took off his seat belt as quickly as he could. He reached over the console and wrapped his arms around her. "Shhh…there, there Sharon. Everything is okay." He spoke soothing words some that he thought might comfort her. She curled her fingers around a clump of his shirt not realizing he was holding her.
As soon as she returned back to reality she let go and leaned back. Wiping her tears away and straightening herself and with a Captain Raydor voice she told him. "I'm sorry Lieutenant. This is highly inappropriate." She didn't even look at him or the confused look he gave her.
"Don't you think we are past the point of inappropriate?" He asked her.
"No!" She raised her voice. Raydor bit her bottom lip and faced him. Sharon wanted things to continue with them as they were before these past couple of nights. Everything was just so damn complicated. Why did things have to be complicated? "Whatever was between us has got to stop for the time being."
"Of course." He huffed and bit the inside of his cheek. Of course this would happen. What if by saying it's a break that she really means it's ending forever? He can't lose her not after being scared for 48 hours that she may be dead. This abduction made him feel more for her. It made him realize how much he loved and cared for her.
Sharon jumped out of the car and Andy followed. She saw he got out too and snapped back at him. "Don't follow me. You can go home lieutenant…"Raydor started off yelling and flailing her hands until she started to pass out.
Andy leaped to catch her. He carried her to the entrance where a group of staff helped to aid her.
I know this isn't much but I'm trying to sort things out before anything else can happen. Please review for any ideas or correction I need to make!
