I am truly sorry for not updating this for about a month or so I have just been dragged to places and I have been lacking creativity which is why I need my reviewers thank you all for your patience.

Chapter 5- A Close Call
All that could be seen from the entrance of the mansion were fiery flames the rooms were filled with smoke the mansion truly was a shadow of what it once was. The entrance was blocked whilst the exits were only vaguely intact.
"I-I can't breathe." A voice croaked struggling to inhale the air their air supply was running short and they only had less than a minute before the mansion self destructs; with chances of survival being slim.
"Caroline hun give me your hand we can get through this together." Bonnie wiped the sweat from her forehead and reached out for her friend who in return latched on to her arm. "We are not leaving you." She hesitantly gazed at Elena who was isolated from the rest of the group.
"Bonnie's right we...us three girls stick together through thick and thin." Caroline gasped staring intently at her friend through her pools of tears she scanned the area for anything some glimmer of hope for their current predicament.
"I appreciate it I really do Bon, Care you two are simply best friends that any girl could ask for but face the facts." She replied honestly struggling to think of any positive outcome she wasn't going to make it out of this.
She wouldn't be able to see Jeremy again, she wouldn't be able to make amends with Stefan, she wouldn't be able to tell Jenna she loved her, nor would she get to know Damon better. She would finally get to see her parents again in a better place maybe it's her time.
All these thoughts she just couldn't control her feelings or her tears how she really felt was the opposite. "I-I don't want to die yet." She couldn't stop her tears she had too many dreams to fulfill before death. She wanted to fall in love, get married, have children and be content with her life. She wanted to wake up one day and say 'I'm happy.'
"You're not going to die and definitely not today." She looked up to view the delicate face of the owner of the voice. Damon oh how she wanted him to hold her just right now and tell her it would all be okay. "I'm coming to get you Stef could use your help."
"Anything Damon anything." He quickly eyed his brother nodding in confirmation he noticed the worried looks on Caroline and Bonnie's faces almost forgetting they were there. "Girls I want you to try and remove the wood covering that window and get as far away from the fire as possible." He threw a long piece of wood towards them hoping they could run to safety.
"We are not leaving her." Bonnie glanced towards her fragile friend especially now when she needed them the most she promised her they would always be there for her.
"Guys please listen Stefan is right." Elena couldn't put them in danger even if she was frightened for her life she was more worried about them than she was for herself. She wanted them to survive only then would she try and attempt to break free. "Please."
"No we won't leave you please understand Elena you mean everything to us so we won't go without you." Caroline reasoned determined to stand by her side until the end.
"Bonnie! Caroline! You are only in the way! Can't you see that Elena doesn't want you guys to be hurt? I promise you we will get her out of here so please just get to a safe spot." Stefan raised his voice feeling a wave of dizziness no he couldn't not now his brother needed him. "Just go we only have a short amount of time."
"B-but." The blonde noticed the look of fear in her friend's eyes but what hurt her the most was Stefan's pleading eyes. She steadied herself and grabbed the long piece of wood as if her life depended on it she nodded her head towards Elena assuring her she was in safe hands. With all the strength she hand she assaulted the debris surrounding the damaged window with the log.
"Care?" Bonnie couldn't think of a possibly worse scenario how could Caroline even think of trying to get to safety when Elena was over in that corner hanging on to her life.
Once she managed to get the debris off she glanced towards Bonnie signaling her to follow. "Bonnie lets go I know you don't want to go and neither do I but we are in the way we would only be assuring Elena's death by us being here." Almost immediately Bonnie gasped almost reluctantly she jumped through the window shortly followed by Caroline. She gave Elena one last look before running away from the flames as far as possible.
"About time they left I thought I would drop dead before they decided to play hero." Damon chuckled even at this time he could only try to crack jokes he was entirely serious though. He felt his air passageway narrow.
"Don't joke about that ever." Stefan gritted the last thing he wanted was this sort of conversation with Damon he was not losing his brother. He stood in a firm position and clasped his hands together bending his knees.
"Stef I appreciate all your gym efforts but now is not the time to show off." He looked at his brother before noticing a ledge. "Ah."
"I'm going to give you a boost and you get Elena I will try to make a bigger exit for you guys." The sound of glass shattering and the flames engulfing the exit interrupted his trail of thought. "Let me rephrase I'll find another exit remind me to kill Klaus after this."
"Hey hey stop crying I'm here see?" He safely dropped from the ledge on his two feet that was before he felt a sharp pain in his leg but that didn't stop him.
"Damon your leg." She noticed that look he was fighting through the pain for her he was enduring it she noticed he let out a hand and reluctantly grabbed on to it.
"Good girl." He observed the ledge he couldn't exit through that route the ledge was too high for him he should have thought this out before he went to play hero. "Dammit so much for a rescue mission."
"Damon what are we-" She couldn't finish her sentence the floor beneath her started crumbling nothing left of it the outcome of events took her by surprise she felt no weight beneath her. She started dropping no she couldn't die yet. "Damon!" She screamed he quickly grabbed her hand refusing to let go.
"I am not letting go." He wheezed ignoring the debris falling on his back he couldn't pull her up not with her holding on to support else where. "Do you trust me?"
"Of course I do." She snapped oblivious to the reasoning behind his words.
"Let go." He whispered losing his grip.
"No I'll fall if I do that." She pleaded with him she couldn't fall to her death like this.
"If you trust me let go of that I promise you I will save you with every inch of my body." He looked at her with sheer determination.
She couldn't refuse him not with that look she slowly loosened her grip and let go immediately screaming. She felt both of his hands clasping with hers and he begun pulling her up with all his strength.
"I got you." He was still pulling her and viciously pulled her towards him to safety. He felt her arms around his neck and her face buried into his chest. He pulled her up not forgetting they could die any second now with sections of the mansion crumbling, pipes bursting and staircases blocked.
"Damon over here." He shot his head up towards the owner of the voice, and noticed a forced exit made by his very own brother pleased with the result he smirked he guided Elena and slowly approached the area.
"We can make it." She wiped her tears and held his hand with more determination than ever there it was again. She heard the rumbling sound and this time it was the area above them she screamed in horror but felt no impact. Damon was covering her a wooden fragment was stuck in place preventing the bricks and debris falling on them. Damon kept it in place the second he saw that it was slipping. "Damon."
"Go." He gave her a strained smile his arms still in place he felt her grip loosen but she wasn't moving instead he saw the horrified look in her eyes.
"...Not without you." She shaked him with pleading eyes she wouldn't abandon him especially the way he saved her life.
"Guys the exit isn't going to stay here for long." Stefan gazed at the two of them noticing how his brother was struggling snapped at her. "Get your ass out here Elena right now."
"Not without him."
"Your pitiful emotions are getting in the way." She turned her head hurt by his words she noticed his struggle. 'He's doing this because of me.'
"Go Elena!"
She left his side and hurried towards Stefan who pulled her out towards him as they collapsed on to the cold hard ground outside slowly falling backwards away from the mansion. "D-damon!" She gasped she tried to get up but her weak state wouldn't allow her she only hoped he made it out.
It only took a couple of seconds before the whole place exploded. "What...no."
"Damon...DAMON DAMON." She snapped she stood up she was held back by her friends who moved her towards safety. "Let me go back let me go back Damon he's in there!"
"You doing that would be incredibly stupid." Stefan reasoned he himself conflicted whether or not to run back for his brother. "Damon please."
"He would die for you he's your brother don't you guys care? Damon he's he's..." She paused and broke down instantly falling on her knees pounding the ground. Pain evident on her face on everyone's face.
"Elena it's going to be okay." Caroline knelt down hugging her tiny frame supporting her.
"No it's not he should be here alive not me." She shook uncontrollably her emotions all over the place her tears flowing freely.
"You need to stop crying it doesn't suit a pretty face like yours." She stopped in her tracks that voice she turned her head and noticed him right there by the field alive.
"Yo-you you're covered in blood but you're alive d-damon oh my god." She was relived she forced her way towards him and hugged him with all her might.
"Didn't think I would be this missed for the last couple of seconds I saw you." He chuckled he felt her embrace tighten and winced slightly he saw her concern and shrugged off the pain. "A few broken bones that's all."
"A few? Damon we need to get you to a doctor." Stefan interrupted relieved upon seeing his brother he neared him noticing him limping and lent his shoulder as support. "Good to have you back brother just to be clear don't ever do that again I don't want to lose my brother."
"Correction I am your only brother Stefan." He mocked he wiped the blood off his arm noticing an innocent pair of brown eyes straight at his. "...Yes?"
She neared his face and swiftly placed her hand on his face and wiped the blood away from his lips and his cheek. Her face was so close to his he thought for a moment she was going to kiss him. He shaked his head he couldn't think of her like that she was his brother's girl she was off limits.
"Ah hem." Bonnie coughed interrupting the duo intentionally she noticed the odd atmosphere between the three Stefan, Damon and Elena it must have been awkward. "I hate to interrupt you guys but we should probably get to a hospital Damon is losing a lot of blood and we all have a few scratches here and there."
"But what do we do about Klaus? Shouldn't we be worried he might plan another surprise attack." Caroline bit her lip anxious about the male he was the ultimate bad boy she made a huge mistake to be attracted to him in the first place but after this they had to get rid of him. "He is a dangerous man and I'm just scared he would pop up at anytime."
"I wouldn't be worried about him right now." Stefan responded still holding on to Damon.
"Why not?" She demanded a part of her was curious about Klaus and another part was curious of the history between Damon and Klaus why was Klaus so crazy Damon couldn't have done something that bad. "Damon?"
"Care not now it's not the time for it." Bonnie interfered noticing those eyes very well she knew what Caroline wanted to know but she couldn't ask Damon now. It was not the time especially after the near death situation.
"Oh, come on Bonnie I wanted to know what blondie wanted." He himself was curious what she wanted to know deep down he had a feeling he knew but wanted to hear it from her mouth.
"Leave your chat for another day and lets go to a hospital before you lose consciousness." She analysed their surroundings one thing was for sure Klaus was one smart guy. "That son of a bitch took us to some place in the middle of nowhere."
"Even if we did survive he was hoping that we would bleed to death cannot believe I was attracted to that fucker." She pouted she approached the road it was too dark to even see anything the area wasn't lit well.
"Ouch oh shit." Stefan eyed his brother after hearing the outburst noticing blood on his hands if he didn't know any better one of Damon's wounds opened up.
"Guys stop any car you see Damon's bleeding I don't know how long it will take to get to a hospital by foot I don't think he would manage either." He placed his hand over the wound earning a groan.
"Damon hang on everything is going to be okay you hear me? We are going to get through this Damon." Elena glanced towards her friends who were now in the middle of the road trying to stop vehicles.
"You people suck you know that someone is dying here!" Caroline waved her arms frantically towards the owner of the car who just ignored them.
"I am begging you please we need your help what happened to kindness people?" Bonnie sighed frustrated their efforts were in vain.
"...Bonnie?"
She knew that voice she turned her head and ran towards the owner of the voice. "Jeremy what are yo..? Wait that's not the question right now we need your help please can you give us a lift to the nearest hospital?"
"What's going on?" He instead was interested why the old Mikaelson mansion was burnt to the ground and why his sister was being all friendly with her ex and his brother.
"Jer please I promise I'll explain everything later but please we need your help." His sister was on her knees crying he didn't know what was going on but he knew one thing he couldn't refuse.
-O-O-O-O-O-
"You're back a lot earlier than expected." Bonnie sighed now her wounds treated she was ready to relax Stefan, Caroline and Elena by her side. It didn't take that long for the hospital to treat their wounds Damon's took a while but he was going to be fine and she was glad it was all over.
"Well I wanted to surprise you guys but it seemed like you people surprised me instead." He chuckled petting his sister's hair who in return was clinging to his arm.
"That means the surprise party was for nothing." Caroline pouted the only thing she was looking forward to what a waste of effort so much for fun parties.
"You can still throw one I'll just act surprised?" He suggested earning a frown from her which was not a good sign.
"That is not the same Jeremy Gilbert!" She complained earning gasps from the nurses informing her to quiet down. "Sorry." She muttered under her breath.
"Do you think we should visit Damon now?" Elena interrupted the groups short lived joy.
"I think we should let my brother rest let him heal you know? At least for tonight he's been through so much today Klaus back and all." He placed his hand over hers clasping her hand it was like the ice between him and Elena was beginning to melt. All he had to do to mend their relationship was to tell her the truth but he couldn't do that now.
"You mean Klaus crazy Klaus he's back? Holy shit why didn't you guys mention this in the first place." He snapped Damon wasn't the only one who was on bad terms with Klaus unlike Damon Jeremy and Klaus were on minor bad terms.
"It's okay Jeremy it's fine Klaus isn't here right now and we probably won't see him for a whi-"
"Bonnie this is HIS hospital."
O-O-O-O-O-
"Mr Salvatore? Is everything okay?" A muffled voice asked, Damon narrowed his eyes towards the figure for some reason he was suspicious of her she was wearing a lot of makeup and she just seemed fake.
"Um, everything is fine woah don't do that." He panicked sitting up slightly he was still in pain and leaning on his bandage was definitely not helping the situation.
"What's wrong?" Was she completely oblivious or just naturally dumb.
"I am allergic to those it's on my record are you trying to kill me? I'm already in a bad state." He snapped not expecting her to laugh.
"That was the whole point but you and your little gang of misfits survived now I'm interested how did you survive?" Her voice started to crack and she removed her makeup and her wig.
He knew that voice all it took was some makeup removal and he was panicking again he immediately reached for the bell but was stopped by brutal force. "S-stop it hurts." He was alone Stefan was no where to be seen he didn't want to face this person by himself not right now when he was weak. "...Klaus."
A/N: What do you guys think? Yes I know Klaus is a crazy ass psycho that is the intention.
