Gosh guys! I am so sorry about the super long wait for this. I know its kind of short but I am still in the process of writing more today.
He ran until his legs could take no more and slowed to a walk.
'What was that?' thought Link as he reached out with his hands trying to feel for a tree.
His left hand brushed against rough bark and he quickly fumbled in the darkness looking for a spot where he could rest. He found a place clear of roots and plopped down, leaning his back against the tree. There were strange noises and shadows all around him but he did his best to ignore them. There was no doubt now that the tales were true. The forest was eating away his sanity and he was not sure if he would live much longer. He clenched his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut, wishing he was back home with his mother. Images of her humming by the fire filled his mind. The screams and wails that raged in his brain slowly vanished as he pulled his knees up to his chest and buried his head in them. He immersed himself in his memories, digging for as many happy moments as he could remember.
A head-splitting scream rang through the trees and he rapidly looked up, not sure of where it had come from. He could barely see a thing and more panic rippled through him. He stood and hugged himself, not sure what direction he should take. He used his hand and felt around the trunk as he walked to the left. He stepped on something that sounded differently than the ground around him. He stomped on it and listened intently, for it made the sound of hollowed wood. He stomped again but harder, and it gave way under his boot and he fell through. Down, down, down he fell. He screamed, closed his eyes and tried to protect his head as he landed on rock after rock as he tumbled. Finally, he landed on a giant solid slab of rock. He whimpered and opened his eyes, as they adjusted he noticed he was bathed in orange light.
'There's light! Light! Precious light!' he thought and gingerly moved into a sitting position.
He looked down and noticed many cuts and gashes littering his body. His tunic was covered in mud and there was barely any green left to be seen. He looked back to where he had come from and noticed that they weren't rocks but stairs he had fallen down. Slowly standing, he rubbed his eyes letting them adjust more to the light, for he had not seen it in what seemed like days.
'Why is there a tunnel down here?'
He walked into the long tunnel and noticed that there was a much brighter light at the end. Despite his wounds, he jogged towards it gleefully.
