Ginny closed her eyes.
It was late – it was way past time for Harry to have been home.
She knew Aurors had tough jobs, she knew it sometimes kept him over time, but this felt different. Maybe it was her nerves from the pregnancy, maybe it was because last time he was late he came home with a new scar and a story to tell.
She didn't want to be that wife. The one the other Aurors always teased about for calling every time her husband was late. But she couldn't stand it much longer. She knew she wouldn't be able to resist for more than 5 more minutes.
Maybe not even that.
Of course, Harry never seemed to mind when she checked up on him. He was usually delighted to see her, even if otherwise stressed. He had apologized to her many times through her pregnancy for being gone so much. But she also knew this was his way of making the world safe for their baby.
She caressed her stomach.
She sighed, time was up, her nerves were at their wit's ends.
"Alright, little one, let's end this worry game once and for all."
Her heart hammering, she grabbed her robe and hurried to the floo. She felt like her mother – had since she took off from the Harpies because of her pregnancy . She now understood how her mother felt, even during the times there was no war, when her brothers or fathers were late. The wizarding world was so dangerous, really.
"Auror Office, Code: Harpy."
She grimaced at the name. She knew why her password was that, but it still sounded awful.
Ron peeked through surprised, "Gin? What d'you need? I was about to head home myself, I was just finishing up the paperwork."
Ginny bit her lip, "Is Harry still there too? He hasn't arrived yet."
Ron grimaced, "No, he left about half an hour ago. Said he didn't wanna keep you up later than he already would. I didn't ask what he meant by that."
Ginny's heart was thudding louder, she could hear it. "He hasn't arrived, Ron, has there been any cases? He hasn't said anything but I know he would try to – "
"Gin?"
Ginny spun around. There he was, messy haired, green eyed, looking confused and slightly sheepish.
She ran towards him , hugged him and them started hitting him against the chest. "Don't" thud "you" thud "ever" thud "scare me like that again!"
He hugged her one armed, before speaking, "I'm sorry, love, I just wanted to surprise you and it took me forever to find an open flower shop."
He held up his other hand to show a bouquet of lilies and daisies.
"I knew you'd been stressed out lately and I wanted to do something nice for you. I'm sorry I worried you, I tried to get home as quick as possible."
Ginny felt her pregnancy hormones take over as she started to cry.
"Oh, Harry… That's so sweet." She hugged her husband.
Harry kissed her head. "Come, love, you've been up late enough as it is."
The two made their way up to bed where Ginny quickly fell asleep. Harry smiled as he held her close and followed her lead.
Ginny was slightly less happy about the surprise of her brother apparating into their bedroom, wands waving.
