Chapter 2:
He was back in the forest again, he could see Martin on the back of the Zachbot and watched unable to move or speak a warning as he jumped off and the bot appeared in front of him. Time seemed to slow down as he watched him crash into the bot before he fell to the ground hitting the rock with his head before he lay unmoving on the ground. He woke himself up screaming Martin's name; it took a few minute's to realize where he was. He ran his shaky hand's over his face and up into his hair leaving them there as he leaned back in his chair and sighed shakily as he looked at the clock on the wall it read 3am. He wasn't sure, how long he had been asleep, he didn't even remember closing his eyes, he got up and went to the window and looked out at the darkness and wondered if Martin was okay. After being unable to track the jet through the transmitter, and being unable to find the jet's frequency Chris had gone back out on his own to search for them. He had searched into the night, but exhaustion and a sudden storm forced him to return to the Tortuga for the time being, the team despite the setback's continued trying to help anyway they could or were needed. Chris blamed himself no matter what the team said if he hadn't fought with Martin he never would have gone out and he never would have run into Zach! Now his brother was out there somewhere hurt, being held by Zach and there was nothing he could do to find him! As the storm raged he starred out the window promising Martin he would find him and bring him home no matter what it took to do it!
With Martin:
After being told he was Zach's older brother, Zach ordered his bot's to clean and stitch his wound and get him a change of clothes. After having his face fixed, he was given an outfit similar to the one Zach wore, he changed into the clothes and afterwards he stood starring at his reflection. He didn't feel right, but he had no reason to doubt Zach besides he did hit his head pretty hard, that had to be the reason everything felt wrong.
"There you are Martin!" Zach said smiling as he came into the room.
"Zach, tell me something?"
"Of course! Anything for my big brother!" Zach said smiling.
"What happened to my head?" Martin asked Zach's reflection.
"Oh, well…let's go back into the other room I want to tell you a little story big bro!"
"What…what did you call me?" Martin asked.
"I called you my big bro! Why? Is something wrong?" Zach asked nervously.
"No, nothing's wrong…it was just a weird feeling I got when you called me bro! Maybe my memory is coming back huh little brother? Isn't that great?" Martin said smiling as he passed by Zach and went into the other room, Zach spoke faking his happiness.
"Of course! That's wonderful news Martin, maybe telling you what happened might help?" Zach couldn't let his memory return or his plan to destroy the Wild Ratt's would be ruined before it even got started! No, he couldn't let that happen, he would just have to make sure that Martin's memories were all of him and Zach he had to make sure nothing got in his way, especially Green Guy!
A Week Later:
After his simple mistake had almost ruined everything, Zach made sure nothing like that happened again! That first night he showed Martin picture's of the team, especially Chris and began filling his head with lies about them, trying to turn him against them. He knew he had to be careful what he said, so he just turned the team into the one's using poor animal's for experiment's, while he and Martin tried to stop them. Then he told Martin how he had gone out to stop Chris, and before Zach could help Martin was injured by Chris and then taken to their ship. Luckily Zach was able to rescue him and bring him back to their ship and waited until he woke to know if he was okay. This continued for a week, he filled Martin's head full of lies at first it seemed like Martin wasn't believing him, and would ask a lot of question's about the team and his life with Zach. Zach though was prepared and had answer's to every question he had, Zach was beginning to worry his plan would fail. Until one day Zach found Martin starring at the computer, a picture of Chris on the screen, Zach froze seeing him he spoke nervously to him about it.
"Martin? What's wrong?"
"Zach, I…I remember!" Martin said visibly tensing, his back to Zach.
"You…you do?" Zach asked preparing himself for a fight.
"Yes!" Martin answered as he turned to face him. "I remember everything now!" Martin said as he walked up to Zach, he was angry and Zach spoke.
"I knew this would happen!" Zach said truly believing he had failed.
"You did? How did you know?" Martin asked confused.
"Come on Martin, it was only a matter of time before you got your memory back!"
"So, then you know what's coming next?" Martin said tensing up again as he clenched his fist's, Zach nodded and was about to call his bot's when Martin continued to speak. "I want to get rid of those Wild Ratt's, and make them pay for what they did to us!"
"You what?" Zach asked unprepared to hear those word's come from Martin who smiled; Zach smiled back as he spoke. "I mean you…you do? I thought you said you remembered everything?"
"I do! I remember everything you told me! You're my brother, you wouldn't lie to me, besides the more I think about what you told me I can remember all of it, even our childhood! Aren't you happy?" Martin asked sounding hurt.
"I' am Martin, this is perfect! You have your memory back this is great, big brother!"
"They'll pay for messing with Martin and Zach Varmitech! Let's do this little brother! Let's show them what happens when they mess with the Varmitech brother's!" Martin said smiling as he hugged Zach, who couldn't believe his plan worked.
With Chris:
It had been a week, but he refused to just give up and let Zach win he had to find his brother and bring him home where he belonged. He had searched day and night driving himself to the point of exhaustion, but he wouldn't stop until he had his brother back. The team never gave up either and like Chris they pushed themselves until they couldn't keep their eyes open from exhaustion. They had made slow progress in finding him, but finally found an area they thought the jet was in, the only problem was the area was huge, and they were unable to narrow down a specific spot. So, everyday Chris searched hoping that he would find the jet, but everyday he returned to the Tortuga without his brother. One night Chris returned to the ship after not finding Martin again, and went to his room feeling defeated and like he let Martin down. He was so close to him earlier when he was searching he could feel it, but no matter where he looked he couldn't find him. He felt like he was going crazy and didn't know what to do anymore; he began to pace trying to keep himself together. As he paced he began to remember the last word's he had said to Martin, his mind had been so focused on finding Martin, that he didn't have a chance to think about the fight. Now as his over exhausted mind had nothing to keep it busy, he began to relive the fight again, he could hear every word they both had said to each other, and he could see Martin's face and it killed him. The fight replayed in his head over and over until he thought he would go crazy, he forced it to stop and it was soon replaced with another horrible memory…watching Martin fall. He didn't know which was worse…having to watch as he hurt his brother, or having to watch as Zach hurt his brother?
Three Day's Later:
Three day's after Martin got his memory back, he decided to go and see if he could find any sign of Chris or the Wild Ratt team. He had left without telling Zach, he was busy on his computer when he was leaving and Martin didn't want to interrupt him. As Martin walked around the quiet forest, he felt at complete peace, something that he hadn't felt since he woke up tied to a chair. He couldn't explain it, but nothing Zach told him felt right to him, when he told Zach he remembered everything he lied, but the anger and hatred towards the Wild Ratt's was real! He had no reason not believe Zach, why would his brother lie to him? After all Zach had been so kind and supportive to him which only made Martin's belief in Zach grow! He decided he would do whatever it took to get rid of the Wild Ratt's, and make them pay for what they did to Martin and his brother. Even as he thought about them, he felt the same strange feeling in his stomach he felt every time he thought of them especially Chris, he couldn't explain it though. The feeling was more of an emptiness, but he didn't understand why he would feel that way especially towards part of the enemy. He was so lost in his thoughts that he never noticed the enemy was closer than he thought! He decided to go through some bushes and see what lay beyond in the clearing, so he began walking through them when suddenly he ran straight into someone else knocking them both over, he rubbed his sore head and spoke.
"Why don't you watch where you're going!" Martin said as he looked up into the eyes of the one man he hated for no reason. "You!"
"Mar…Martin?" Chris asked not sure if he was dreaming. "Is it really you?"
"Of course it's me! What are you doing here?" Martin demanded as they both stood.
"I was looking for you!" Chris said smiling, so happy to see him.
"For me? Why?" Martin asked defensively.
"You've been missing for over a week Martin! Are you okay?"
"Of course I'm okay! I was with my brother after all!" Martin said smiling crossing his arms. "My younger brother took very good care of me!"
"Your younger brother? What are you talking about? I wasn't with you!" Chris said confused. "I've been searching everywhere for you!"
"What do you have to do with anything? I told you I was with my younger brother!"
"I heard you, but I don't understand you! Who's your younger brother?"
"Never mind! I'm glad I ran into you literally!" Martin said as he grabbed Chris by the shirt collar and pulled Chris to him roughly. "You and I have some unfinished business to deal with!"
"Martin? What's wrong with you? Don't you know who I' am? It's me, Chris your…"
"My enemy!" Martin said cutting him off. "I'm done playing games, you and your little team are going to pay for all the crap you've put us through!" Martin said angrily.
"What are you talking about? Who are you talking about?" Chris asked confused.
"Don't play stupid! You've been causing my brother and I problem's for year's today I end it!" Martin said looking into Chris' eye's, as he did something seemed familiar to him, but it was so faint he quickly shook it off, Chris sensing the slight change spoke.
"Martin please you need to listen to me! Zach is an evil man who…"
"Shut up! Don't talk about my brother like that!" Martin said cutting him off. "Let's do this…you and me little man!" Martin said smiling as he released him, Chris backed up refusing to fight his own brother, he didn't care if Martin was being controlled he wouldn't fight him, he continued to back away from Martin as he did he spoke.
"I'm not fighting you Martin!"
"Aw, is the little Wild Ratt afraid to fight?" Martin teased.
"Martin this is crazy! Just come with me back to the Tortuga and…"
"That's it!" Martin said swinging at Chris, but he just missed him when Chris ducked.
The fight was on with Chris refusing to hit Martin, he continued to dodge Martin's fist's, but wasn't sure how much longer he'd be able too. He needed a plan, he didn't want to hurt Martin, he only wanted him to be unable to move, so he could get him back to the Tortuga. Thinking quick he remembered he had some rope in his pack, so he raced to where his pack lay under a nearby tree with Martin right behind him the whole way. He reached the tree and quickly slid on his knees to his pack, he opened it and pulled out the rope and waited until Martin was close enough to trip. As soon as he was Chris used his own legs and kicked Martin's feet out from under him, Chris wasted no time. As soon as Martin fell Chris was back on his feet and knelt by his fallen brother and quickly tied him up. Martin fought with him the entire time, but Chris soon had him tied up, once secure he tied him to a tree and went to get the Createrra that he had left just behind the clearing they were in. He brought the Createrra to where Martin lay and put him into the back before he threw his pack in the passenger's seat and drove off calling the team to tell them about Martin and have them waiting when they arrived. Once they were there he parked and met the others at the doors and told them everything all of them were confused as they helped bring Martin inside. They then tied him to a chair, Martin had fought with them the whole way inside, once he was secure again Chris spoke.
"Aviva you need to find out what's wrong with him! He doesn't recognize any of us! Zach did something to him…maybe he used mind control?" Chris asked pacing, his eye's never left Martin, he was about to lose his mind Aviva spoke to him gently.
"Relax CK! Whatever Zach's using to control Martin we'll find and destroy it!" Aviva assured Chris as she began to look Martin over, Koki helped her, Jimmy spoke.
"Come on Chris, let's go get some fresh air and let them work?"
"I…I can't leave! I need to be here for…"
"Chris there's nothing you can do for him right now! He's in good hands, you trust Aviva and Koki right?" Jimmy asked gently.
"I trust them with my life!" Chris answered without hesitation. "You're right JZ, I could use some fresh air and a good friend right now!" Chris said smiling sadly as they left.
An hour later Aviva and Koki joined them outside, Chris saw them first and stood he hoped for good news, but by their face's he knew it wasn't good he spoke first.
"So? Were you able to fix him?"
"Chris there's nothing there! There's no mind control device of any kind anywhere on or in his body!" Aviva answered.
"What? That's impossible! You must have missed it!" Chris said refusing to believe it.
"No Chris we didn't! We scanned every part of him twice, he's not being controlled by Zach! He's perfectly normal and healthy, except for the scar on the left side of his head, he probably got it when he fell!" Koki added.
"Then how do you two explain the way he's acting? That's not my brother in there! He doesn't know any of us, including me! He kept saying Zach was his brother, does that sound healthy to you? If he's not being controlled then how do you explain that?" Chris demanded, he knew something was wrong with his brother, Jimmy suddenly spoke.
"What if he is being controlled by Zach, just not in a way that uses devices?"
"What do you mean JZ? Like brainwashing?" Koki asked confused by his statement.
"No, but something similar!" Jimmy answered as they all became quiet thinking of what he had said, suddenly they all looked at each other and together spoke the answer.
"AMNESIA!" They said at the same time.
"That's it! When Martin fell and hit his head he must have gotten amnesia, and Zach found out! He then used it to his advantage and filled Martin's head with lies!" Aviva said getting angry, knowing Zach had turned Martin against them, Chris spoke upset.
"He turned my own brother against me!" He said furiously as his fists clenched.
"How can we fix him? We can fix him right?" Jimmy asked.
"JZ, there's no cure for amnesia!" Aviva answered gently.
"How…how long does it last?" Jimmy asked sadly.
"No one knows for sure! It could last hour's, days, month's…even years!" Koki said.
"What can we do?" Chris asked scared of never getting Martin back. "I want my brother back!"
"We need to help him remember himself and us!" Aviva answered.
"Okay, how do we do that?" Chris asked.
"We talk to him, tell him all about himself and us, we tell him stories! We show him every picture and video we have of him alone and with us! We show him his things, each one of those thing's are a key to unlocking his memory, we just need to keep trying everything until we find the right one!" Aviva said smiling. "The main thing to remember is not to get frustrated or give up, he's still our Martin and we will bring him back to us!"
"What are we waiting for? Let's bring our Martin back!" Koki yelled as they all agreed before they rushed back inside and began to gather everything they could think of to use.
Later:
Chris sat across from Martin, the room was dark except for the lone lamp that cast its soft glow onto them. They had spent all day and into the night trying to bring Martin's memory back, they had tried showing him every picture and video they had, as well showed him his belonging's in an attempt to trigger something in him. They told him stories about him and themselves, but not one thing worked and Martin refused to believe anything. Finally exhausted Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy were sent to bed by Chris, he wouldn't give up on his brother and had spent the last half hour in a starring match with him. Neither had said a thing, Chris began to pace not knowing what else to do with himself, it was hard to be this close to his brother, but still be so far away. As Chris passed in front of him for the fifth time Martin suddenly spoke stopping Chris.
"Why are you doing this?"
"I'm doing this because you're my brother Martin! All of these thing's we've shown you bring back nothing to you?" Chris asked gently as he pulled his chair closer and sat.
"No, I remember nothing! Why can't you just accept the fact that your little plan to brainwash me isn't going to work? I'm not your brother!" Martin said.
"Yes you are! Your name is Martin Kratt, and you're my older brother!"
"Look, I'm not your brother! You can't make me into something I'm not! You need to stop this game and let me go!"
"I'll stop when I have my brother back!" Chris said as he got up and went to the window and looked out his back to Martin. "I always wanted to be like you when we were growing up, you were always so outgoing and I was your shy, dorky kid brother. You know I even pretended to be you in my mirror, I never told anyone that…not even you! Martin you're not just my older brother, you're also my best friend I can't stop until I have you back!" Chris said sadly as he left the room, Martin just sat there the feeling of belonging sitting heavy in his heart, he pushed it away he didn't belong with the enemy he belonged with his brother!
The Next Day:
Chris was dreaming, dreaming of times in the past where Martin was with him. He didn't want to wake up, but someone was gently calling his name, he opened his eye's to find Koki standing by him. He had fallen asleep at his desk, he stretched before he stood he didn't have time to greet her as Aviva and Jimmy ran into the room, he spoke.
"What is it? What's wrong?" Chris asked seeing their faces.
"Its Martin…he's gone!" Jimmy answered.
"Gone? What do you mean gone? I was the last one to see him and he was still tied up when I left!" Chris said as they rushed to the control room.
"I went to bring him some breakfast this morning and found him gone!" Jimmy said.
"How could he escape?" Koki asked as they went into the empty room, Chris checked the rope's and noticed they were cut and showed them before he kicked the chair.
"He cut them! I should have checked him for his pocket knife!" Chris said upset.
"Now what do we do?" Aviva asked.
"We do nothing…I go after my brother!" Chris said as he left the room and went to his room where he grabbed his Creature suit and Creature pod and without saying another word he left and got into the Createrra. He drove back to the same spot where he had found Martin the day before and once there he would figure out where to go.
With Martin:
After being left alone finally Martin was able to reach his pocket-knife after a little change in position. After getting it he used it to cut the rope's around his wrist's first and 15 minute's later they were free, he then cut the rope's around his ankle's and waited to hear if anyone was around. Not hearing anything he crept to the door and looked out into the dark hallway and saw a faint light coming from the end of the hall and knew that's where Chris had gone. Without thinking about it he crept into the hall and knew exactly where the door was and made his way to it without being seen or heard. Once he was sure he was still in the clear he opened the door and left quietly, it was only when he was running back to his brother that he realized he knew the layout of the entire Tortuga. He made it back to his brother by sunrise the next morning still lost in his thought's about how he knew when he heard someone calling his name, he turned to see Zach standing there.
"Martin!" Zach said meeting him halfway. "There you are! What happened you were gone all night, you had me worried!" Zach said relieved he was back and his plan was still working. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine! I was searching the wood's yesterday when I ran into Chris, he wouldn't fight me and when I chased him he tripped me and then tied me up! After he had me tied he took me back to their ship and all night the four of them tried everything to brainwash me into believing I was Chris' brother not your's! I escaped and came right back here!"
"Are you hurt?" Zach asked playing the loving brother role.
"No, I'm okay!" Martin said running a hand through his hair, he couldn't stop thinking of what happened. "I' am tired though!"
"Come inside and have some breakfast before you rest! I'm glad you're okay!"
"Thanks, I'm glad to be back home!" Martin said, but the word tasted bitter in his mouth.
With Chris:
After finding the clearing again he parked the Createrra and got out, he looked for any recent sign's his brother had been there and soon spotted fresh footprints in the mud. Smiling he followed them until they stopped in front of some bushes, so Chris quietly snuck up to them and peeked through them and saw Zach's jet, he smiled to himself. He needed to know if Martin was there, he got his answer when he saw Zach talking to Martin in the open doorway of the jet, before they hugged and Martin went back into the jet. Seeing them hug made Chris furious knowing that he had turned Martin against him as part of a twisted plan to destroy them, he wouldn't let Zach hurt Martin anymore! He waited until he knew it was safe, then he slowly and quietly crept towards the jet and looked for a way inside. He found a vent that luckily was just big enough for him to fit into, he opened it quietly before getting into it and followed it as far as he could. It ended over Martin's room, Chris watched as he lay on his bed awake, but deep in thought. Chris went back through the vent until he found an empty room, then he very quietly got out of the vent and checked the hallway and found it empty. After finding it empty Chris decided to go right, he didn't know where he was going, he only knew he had to find Zach and somehow get him to confess. He snuck through the dark hall carefully keeping to the shadows, until he heard Zach's voice coming from the last room in the hallway. He made it to the door and waited until the Zachbot's had left, he was about to go inside when a voice behind him made him freeze, he knew who the voice belonged too…Martin!
"I think you're lost Wild Ratt!"
"Martin, you need to listen to…" Chris was cut off by Martin.
"This end's now!" Martin said as he grabbed Chris and drug him into the room.
"Martin, I thought you were…" Zach trailed off seeing Chris.
"I caught him sneaking around the hall!" Martin said releasing him.
"Zach! You're little game is over! We know all about Martin's amnesia, and the lie's you told him!" Chris yelled angrily, Zach just stood there smiling.
"I have no idea what you're talking about?" Zach lied.
"He's not your brother Martin, I' am! You must feel some kind of connection to me? Even the smallest connection?" Chris pleaded.
"The only thing I feel for you is hatred! Why would Zach lie to me?" Martin demanded.
"Yeah, Green Guy why?" Zach mocked.
"He's evil, he doesn't care about anyone, but himself! Martin he's using you to destroy us, once he does he won't need you anymore! Then he'll get rid of you too, please Martin listen to me?"
"You know this is pathetic, even for you Green Guy! Martin and I will finally be able to do what we want, once we get rid of you for good!" Zach said smiling, Chris noticed how quiet Martin had become, but said nothing. "ZACHBOT'S!"
"No! He's mine!" Martin suddenly said looking at Chris angrily, the entire time Chris and Zach were arguing Martin felt his memories trying to resurface. "I finish him!"
"Very well then! Goodbye Wild Ratt! My brother will finish you off and then we'll get rid of your little friend's!" Zach said smiling.
"Martin this isn't you! You're not like him, you're better than this!"
"Save your breath Wild Ratt, you're going to need it!" Martin said smiling as he began walking towards Chris, his fists were clenched as his eye's never left Chris. Chris once again refused to fight Martin so he backed up, until he hit the wall, Martin spoke smiling.
"No where to run now!" He said as he brought his fist up to hit Chris, but again Chris ducked and Martin hit the wall instead. Using the distraction Chris got away from him and put as much space between them as he could, Martin was furious as he spoke.
"Stay still, and fight me!" Martin said as he ran at Chris.
"Martin, I'm not going to fight you! You're my brother!" Chris said hoping he'd listen.
Martin ignored him and continued the chase, Chris knew he couldn't avoid Martin forever, but he couldn't fight him either! He dodged Martin again, but didn't see the chair Zach had kicked into his path and he tripped on it. He had no time to react as Martin was on him, he turned Chris over and smiling punched him in the face. Chris was momentarily stunned, until he felt the blood coming from his nose and returned to reality. He saw his brother was about to hit him again, and brought his fist up first and connected with Martin's face. Martin unprepared for the punch lost his balance enough for Chris to knock Martin off him and get up, Martin looked at him and smiled.
"Lucky punch Wild Ratt!" Martin said wiping the blood form his mouth, he stood up.
He charged Chris again, this time connecting sending them both to the floor, where Martin continued to punch him. Chris knew he had no choice, but to fight back so he did hating Zach more with each punch that connected. The fight went on for what seemed like forever to Chris, both brother's got hits in and received hits. Finally unable to fight anymore Chris lay on the floor after Martin punched him, Martin stood over him just as exhausted and sore. No one spoke, they starred at each other until Zach spoke breaking the silence telling Martin to finish Chris off. Martin knelt by Chris and grabbed him by his shirt collar pulling him to him as he drew his fist back, Chris spoke to him quietly.
"Its okay Martin, I know this isn't really you, I forgive you! I…I love you bro!" Chris said as he looked into Martin's eyes, before he closed his eye's waiting for the punch. Hearing those word's Martin froze, as his memories rushed back to him like water bursting from a dam. Chris opened his eyes confused when the punch never came and saw Martin holding him still, his eyes were tightly closed, as Martin spoke suddenly.
"Chris!" Martin whispered before his eyes flew open and looked at him, Chris saw the warmth return to Martin's blue eye's, they no longer were the eyes of a stranger. "I…I remember!"
"You're back?" Chris asked as Martin let him go and stood angrily.
"Zach, you little weasel! You turned me against my friend's, my brother!" Martin yelled angrily. "You little worm!"
"Martin what are you talking about? Its me, your brother I…"
"Save it Zach! I know who you are!" Martin answered.
"Oh, well! It was fun while it lasted! Is this the part where I surrender?"
"No, this is the part where you run before I catch you and make you bleed!" Martin said smiling as he charged Zach, but Chris spoke stopping him from going after Zach.
"Martin no! Its over, let him go!" Chris said stopping Martin from chasing after Zach who had already run from the room. "Let's go back to the Tortuga, before his Zachbot's find us!" Chris said as they quickly left the room, keeping to the shadow's hiding from the many Zachbot's searching for them, both brother's too beat up to fight. They made their way outside unseen and raced to where the Createrra waited. Once safe they stopped to rest, Chris was so happy to have Martin back, he spoke happily to him.
"Its good to have you back bro!" Chris said smiling as he went to hug him.
"Don't touch me!" Martin said angrily as he pulled away, Chris was confused he spoke.
"Martin? What's wrong?" Chris asked concerned. "Your memory must still be messed up, let's…" Martin cut Chris off angrily.
"My memory is fine Chris! I remember everything!"
"That's great! Then why are you…wait! You remember everything?" Chris asked realizing what was going on, Martin remembered their fight, Martin just turned and walked away towards the Tortuga leaving Chris standing by the Createrra feeling like a complete jerk!
After leaving Chris, Martin walked back to the Tortuga, it felt so great to be back, but having his memory back also meant he remembered the fight. As he walked he thought of all that had happened, he felt so low, he had fought with Chris, gotten his head smashed off a damn rock causing him amnesia, and then he was used in a sick game by Zach! Maybe everything Chris had said about him was true? Without realizing it he had arrived at the Tortuga, it was only when he heard a familiar voice call his name did he notice. He looked up to see Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy running to him, he smiled and they nearly knocked him over hugging him. He pulled away and they went inside Aviva took his hand and sat him down before smiling she checked his wound's, none of them serious. He couldn't stop smiling as they asked him a million questions, he tried to answer them, but he couldn't get a word in. Suddenly they were interrupted when the door opened and Chris walked in quietly his head down, the other's minus Martin rushed to him and hugged him too, relieved to know both brother's were okay. Aviva took his hand and made him sit, like she had done to Martin and checked his wound's as well, and like Martin none of his were serious. After she was done Chris looked sadly over at Martin who smiling was talking to Koki, and Jimmy his heart broke knowing he hated him. He felt Chris' eye's on him and turned to face him his smile instantly disappeared, he stood sorely and spoke his eye's never left Chris and Chris felt every hidden meaning in his word's and killed him.
"You know it suddenly got really stuffy in here! I need some air!" Martin said as he left.
"Chris…he's hurting right now! He's been through so much, he need's to know you still love him!" Aviva said gently as she touched his shoulder.
"Don't you think I know that?" Chris began upset as he pulled away from her touch and stood as he began pacing. "He's my brother and I'm the reason he got used by Zach! Its because of me he nearly died!" Chris said so upset feeling worse than ever.
"Chris go to him, make him see how sorry you are!" Koki added.
"Its not that simple! He hate's me guy's, he'll never listen to anything I say!"
"You could try! You owe him that much!" Jimmy said gently.
"You're right, I'll try!" Chris said getting up and went outside.
Chris went outside and looked around, but couldn't find Martin anywhere and suddenly he panicked thinking Zach had come back and took him, until he heard his brother's laughter coming from behind the Tortuga. He followed the laughter and found Martin sitting on a rock as a grey squirrel sat on his shoulder. He stood there unseen a smile on his face as he watched his brother play with squirrel and his heart broke knowing he had purposely hurt him. He didn't know if Martin would talk to him, let alone listen to his apology, but he owed it to him to try! He couldn't bring himself to speak, or move he was frozen suddenly Martin spoke breaking into his thought's Chris came back to reality.
"Still following me huh?" Martin's voice sounded hollow, no emotion of any kind in it, Chris came as close as he dared wanting to give Martin space, he took a deep breath.
"Martin…can we talk?" Chris asked gently.
"I have nothing to say to you!" Martin said getting up, his squirrel friend was spooked by his sudden movement and took off into the tree's, Martin began to walk away.
"Good, because I have enough to say for the both of us!" Chris said quickly grabbing Martin's arm, Martin pulled away roughly, but didn't leave Chris spoke again gently.
"Martin I…I want to apologize to you for what happened! I never meant any of what I said, I was just angry because…"
"I screwed up like always?" Martin said his back still to Chris, but all the anger was gone from his voice, hearing the hurt in his voice Chris quickly spoke correcting him.
"No! I was mad at myself…again!"
"What?" Martin asked gently finally facing him.
"Martin do you remember what I told you the night we tried to bring your memory back?" Chris asked quietly as he sat down on a rock.
"About you wanting to be like me when we were kids" Martin asked.
"Yeah, well I…I still am that dorky kid brother wanting to be more like his fearless, fun older brother!" Chris finally admitted.
"Chris, I'm…" Chris cut Martin off gently.
"Martin, don't please! You need to let me finish, its time I finally admitted it to myself after denying it for so long!" Chris said looking at the ground. "You're fearless Martin! You aren't afraid to take risks or chance's, and I'm…not! I have to think every little thing through, I can't just let go and enjoy the moment like you!"
"You know Chris, sometimes that's not a bad thing!" Martin said gently as he sighed before he sat beside Chris, neither looked at each other both starred at the ground.
"I wish I could be more spontaneous like you! That's where my anger came from that day we fought, I was mad at myself for not letting go! Since I couldn't admit it to myself, I made myself believe it was you I was mad at! I was wrong, and the other's called me on it, so I went after you that day to apologize, but I was too late and saw you fall! I…I thought you were dead and I couldn't breathe! I'm so sorry Martin, its my fault!" Chris said standing, he began to walk away, but Martin stopped him, he grabbed his arm and spoke.
"Chris, I'd be lying to you if I told you those thing's you said didn't hurt, because they did! After I left all I kept thinking was that if my own brother thought that I was a screw up, maybe its true! Chris I know I'm not the kind of person who think's before he acts! I also know I get distracted easily, but I know when thing's get tough I can do what I need too, and do you know why?"
"Why?" Chris asked looking at Martin.
"I can because I always have my little brother backing me up!" Martin said smiling sadly as he nudged him lightly with is shoulder. "Chris, I forgive you, if you can forgive me?"
"Always!" Chris said returning his smile.
"So, we good then?" Martin asked smiling as he patted his back.
"Yeah, I think we really are!" Chris answered as he returned the gesture.
"You know…you never told me you had a strong right hook!" Martin teased rubbing his jaw. "I think you might have knocked a tooth loose!"
"You're one to talk bro! You almost broke my nose!" Chris answered back.
"I don't know about you, but I'm beat up and exhausted! Let's go back inside and relax?" Martin said as he stiffly and slowly got up. "I'm getting too old for this crap!" He said making them both laugh as he began to walk away, Chris spoke stopping him.
"Martin?" Chris spoke as he stood and followed him.
"Yeah?" Martin asked as he stopped and turned around.
"I love you bro!" Chris said hugging him.
"I love you too little brother!" Martin said returning the hug.
Later that night as Chris lay in his bed starring at the ceiling, listening to Martin snore softly he thought about everything that had happened over the past week. He replayed the talk he had had with Martin earlier in his head, it felt good to finally not only apologize, but to finally tell Martin how he's felt all his life! He couldn't expect Martin to change who he was that wouldn't be fair, and truthfully he didn't want him to change! They had made a promise to each other to try and be more like the other, but not lose themselves in the process and that was good enough for him. He drifted off to sleep, a smile on his lip's knowing that life for them wasn't perfect, but it was pretty darn close now!
THE END!
