Disclaimer: I do not own Kick Buttowski.
You'd think that during summer vacation I'd have time for my fanfics… nope. We currently only have one laptop and both my brother and sister need it. He needs to get his fixed and I need to get my sis one. So oddly enough I only have time during the actual school year till we all get one.
In other news, my sister wanted to me to tell you about a PPG RRB AU story and its cute, give it a look, it's called "Finding Myself Again" by summermist296. Check it out when you get the chance :)
Anyways, thanks for the reviews and I'll be working harder on this because (and I think I mentioned this before…) we're nearing the end! Sad!
On with the story!
Everything in Kick's shut down in disbelief the moment he saw Kendall wrap her arms around André, but when the exchange student looked at him with eyes full of victory, a silent fury coursed thru his blood.
"Kendall." She turned and saw Kick entering the classroom.
"Kick you're gonna miss the bus! What're* you still doing here?"
"You forgot your camera." He held out the device, "I remember you saying you needed it."
"Thanks!" An appreciative smile graced her features, "I completely forgot!"
"It is always nice to have such a considerate friend, is it not?" André said smiling, "I am most grateful that joli Kendal is willing to help me with my studies while I recover from my injury."
Kick snapped back to Kendall with an incredulous look, "You're helping him!?"
"Yeah, anyone else would get detention or not get any work done."
"But Kendall-"
"Hey, president, hurry or you'll be late!" One of the student members shouted as he passed the classroom.
"You are having a meeting?" André questioned. "How long will it last?"
Kendall shrugged, "Not sure. We've got a lot more to handle this year so it might be a bit late when it finally finishes."
"I will stay till it ends; after all I cannot allow you to stay alone when evening arrives."
Kick silently fumed, "I'll stay too. I probably missed the bus anyways."
Kendall gave him an apologetic look, "Sorry, I didn't mean to take up so much time."
Kick smirked, perfect opportunity to make her blush. But just as he opened his mouth, André beat him to it.
"Joli Kendall, you are worthy of all the time this world has to offer. Do not think little of yourself."
She giggled and rolled her eyes, "Flattery won't help you, André. I'll still be the toughest tutor you've ever had, but till then, I've got a meeting to get too."
"And I'll be here waiting for you." Kick gave her his special smile; the one that (secretly) made her heart melt and knees go weak.
Not that she'd ever tell him that, since she liked playing hard to get and it sounded super cliché. But sometimes, the little things like this were just too much and Kendall wanted nothing more than to have Kick wrap her in his arms and kiss her till she didn't remember her own name. Yeah she had a girly side, but she didn't mind that Kick was the one who brought it out.
They were abruptly pulled from their moment when André decided to remind them that he would be staying too.
"Thanks you guys. Feel free to wander the halls while you wait, but don't do anything stupid. Some teachers like to stay late." Kendall quickly scurried away, leaving them alone.
Kick had done everything he could think of to pass the time; practice some stunts, finish his homework, listen to Gunther's text-rant about not picking a fight with the one person who managed to annoy him beyond belief in less than 5 minutes… and yet he found himself standing outside the classroom where Kendall's meeting was being held while said annoyance stood across the hall from him with a pleasant smile on his stupid foreign face.
"You seemed troubled casse-cou." He said suddenly. "Are you worried about joli Kendall?"
Kick glared at him, "Why are you even staying, André? Kendall's already got me here; I don't see why you gotta be here too."
"Casse-cou, if I recall correctly, it was I who offered to stay first. If anyone should question this, it should be me. You must also remember Kendall is helping me during my time of recovery, and regardless of whether I stay here I would have met her later in day for assistance with today's work."
The smile never left Andre's face. It was almost like he was trying to kill Kick with kindness… but Kick knew it wasn't real. That look of victory in Andre's eyes while he hugged Kendall was far from friendly. It was a way of declaring the war between them, and at the same time it said he had won the first battle.
"You've only known her for 2 weeks; I've known her since elementary school. Of course I'd offer to stay."
"Then you are a very noble friend, not to mention very protective of her." He thought for a moment, "Although, you have much reason to be, I am sure she captures the attention of many young men due to her beauty."
Kick's glare intensified, "Kendall's more than a pretty face; she's got spunk, she's smart and she's a good person."
"Oh I do not doubt that casse-cou, I have seen for myself how she is and that is why I hold her in high regards… well, higher than many of the young ladies back in my home country." His gentle smile changed, it was still a smile, but Kick felt as though there was something… wicked behind it.
"I have gotten to know many girls very well, and many people mistake the air-headed ones as the most… fun. But I came to realize the smart ones are the best. Perhaps it was because they are smart and provide many challenges, not to mention the gratification and fulfillment they give in the end is most satisfactory."
Kick was suddenly pinning André against the lockers, "You've got a lot of nerve saying that to my face."
André hissed and clutched his arm, causing Kick to ease his grip but not let go, "I do not understand what you mean casse-cou."
"Don't play dumb! You're after Kendall and I'm not going to let you take advantage of her!"
"I said nothing of the sort!" He countered.
"You just said that smart girls give you satisfaction!"
André gave him a look of confusion before the expression twisted into indignant anger, "How dare you attempt to twist my words and imply something I do not mean!? I meant that a smart girl is better than an air-headed girl because the smart ones are knowledgeable and sensible and can actually-"
"You and I both know that's not what you meant!" Kick snapped.
"And you are simply jealous that perhaps you actually have competition for the affections of Kendall!"
"I would never be jealous of you!" He hissed, "I can feel it in my gut that you're not as wonderful as most people think, and I'll prove to everyone that you're really-"
"KICK!"
"Ok, so that's it for that… who was in charge the-"
"Budget reports are right here president!" A brown-haired girl beamed proudly, "We even did some of your work for you so you wouldn't have to stay here on a Friday!"
"Thanks! So that's everything for now, we'll have another meeting next week before school on Tuesday once I finish going over everything."
Everyone began gathering their things while Kendall reviewed a few papers when they suddenly heard a crash from the hall.
"Hey it's Kick and that French student!"
"What?" Kendall rushed out of the room, "KICK!" The daredevil turned at her voice and instantly dropped André, who grimaced as he clutched his shoulder.
"Kick what were you doing!?" She rushed over and knelt next to the boy before looking back at her friend,
"You didn't hear what he was saying, Kendall! He-"
"I said nothing that justifies your actions towards me!" André interrupted, "There is nothing wrong with enjoying an intelligent conversation or educated debate with someone!"
"That's not what you meant and you know it!"
"Stop it, Kick." Kendall gingerly helped André stand, "Are you ok, André?"
"Yes, thank you Kendall." He grimaced again, "Although, perhaps I could get an ice pack for my shoulder?"
"We have a first aid kit in the classroom, come on."
"Kendall…"
"Not now, Kick. We'll talk later." Kick watched in disbelief as Kendall led the boy away before glancing at the crowd.
"Go on you guys, there's nothing to see."
He pulled out his phone once everyone had left, "Hey, Gunther…"
"What's wrong, Kick?"
"Well…"
"What happened, André?" Kendall asked as she handed him the ice pack.
He let out a hiss, "A misunderstanding, joli-Kendall. Do not blame Kick for it; I am sure if I had chosen my words more carefully this would not have happened."
"It's just so unlike him… Maybe you should call for a ride and have your house doctor make sure you don't get worse. I'll stop by tomorrow morning instead of today."
"You are too kind Kendall," He gave her an appreciative smile and wrapped his good arm around her, "I am very fortunate to have you as a friend."
She pulled away and returned his smile, "No worries, but you better get going; I have to lock up a few rooms before I go."
"Thank you, I shall see you tomorrow." André looked around the hallways before leaving the school with a satisfied smirk.
"What a day…" Kendall mumbled as she locked the classroom door.
"You're telling me…" She jumped at the voice.
"Kick? You're still here?"
He nodded, "Look, I don't know what André told you but-"
"He said it was a misunderstanding,"
"Well sorta… I mean he didn't exactly say that he liked messing around with smart-"
"Then why did you pin him against the lockers?" She demanded, "You know he has a bad shoulder."
"Kendall-"
"No, I don't want to hear it. You're going to apologize tomorrow." She began walking towards the doors with Kick following her, "But thanks for waiting for me."
"Kendall, you know I wouldn't react like that unless he said something to bait me. And even then I usually settle things with a competition."
"Tell me exactly what he said." She raised an eyebrow at him when he finished explaining, "Ok I can get why you would think that, but he was taught a very formal way to speak English, Kick. He said something about poor wording so I guess he realized his mistake."
"Look, I know this guy is being all helpless and a perfect gentleman but he's not all he's cracked up to be." He reached out for her hand, "My instincts have never been wrong before."
Kendall smiled, unknowingly lacing their fingers together, "I trust you, Kick. But give him a chance. If things don't improve then I won't even bother helping him out, ok?"
Kick sighed, "Yeah, sure. Come on," He tugged on her hand, "We've got big plans for tomorrow so you better get some sleep."
"Oh actually I'm helping André out in the morning, but Jackie can come with me!" She added when Kick's face hardened, "She wanted to work on our Science project anyways."
"Fine," He pulled his hand away, "Guess we'll see you in the afternoon."
"Yeah…" She looked at her driveway, "See you tomorrow, Kick."
"I don't know about this, Jackie…" Gunther shifted nervously beside his girlfriend as they stood in front of Andre's house, "Maybe we should-"
"I just need to ask that French boy a few questions." She glared at the limo as it approached them.
"Jackie, Gunther, what a surprise!" André flashed them charming smile, glancing briefly at their joined hands. "What brings you here?"
"Double meaning phrases isn't gonna get you in Kendall's good graces, André." She spat, "And everyone who knows Kick knows he needs a valid reason to react the way he did."
The French boy approached her with a sweet (and somewhat creepy) smile, causing Gunther to tighten his grip on his girlfriend's hand, "Tell me Jackie, if you saw an injured sparrow and a cat not too far from it, would you automatically blame the cat and feel pity for the sparrow?"
She hesitated, "What does that have to do with anything?"
"You know," André reached for her face and Gunther pulled Jackie behind him, "Kendall and I shall be spending much time together, even more so now that a friend of hers re-injured me." He pulled away and stepped around them into the house.
"Good night, my friends."
"WE ARE NOT FRIENDS!" She shouted at the closed-door.
"Whoa Jackie," Gunther began dragging her away from the house, "Don't let him get to you."
"Didn't you hear what that arrogant, snobbish-"
"I know what he said, but remember the sparrow? He's in a position where if we're not careful with what we say or do, Kendall's gonna think he's the victim."
Jackie let out a growl, "Who does he think he is? Comin' here and messing with my friends…"
"We can try explaining it tomorrow, but I don't think it's gonna work out."
"Why not?"
"What proof do we have?" Gunther stopped and pulled her into his arms, "That was the point of the double-meaning thing, it could be taken either way and since he's always acting like a gentleman it makes it not believable; he would never mean something bad."
She scoffed, "Then I'm not letting her out of my sight and I'll make sure she sees André for the manipulative liar he is!"
Although Kendall failed to notice the strain within the group since she often spent time helping André, Jackie grew more and more frustrated as the days passed. It didn't help that André constantly looked for ways to aggravate her while she helped Kendall with tutoring him. A couple of weeks after the big 'misunderstanding', the brown-haired girl confronted her friend.
"Kick and I are fine." Kendall replied calmly when her friend brought the subject up during lunch.
"Are you kidding?! The tension between you two is so thick I could take it, wrap it up and give it to you as a Christmas present!" Jackie thought a moment before adding, "For the next three years!"
"Jackie, if there was something wrong Kick would tell me-"
"Unless you're defending the problem; André is bad news, but he's got the roll of a saint down to a fault!"
Kendall stared at her, "A saint?"
"Yes!" Jackie threw her arms up in exasperation, "Haven't you noticed? He 'hurts' shoulder after inviting us over to his house and then provokes Kick the next day right before your meeting is over, and don't you say it was just a misunderstanding!" She snapped when Kendall opened her mouth.
"Because there is no way Kick would start anything unless he was provoked! And he takes up almost all of your free time saying 'Oh I've never had a friend like you, Kendall' and acting like the perfect gentleman when you're around!"
Kendall let out a long sigh, "Jackie, I know you don't like him, but you should give him a chance. You might find you have things in common with him."
"Oh I already know enough about him…" She mumbled.
"And that is why we're wearing blue again for Homecoming." Gunther finished explaining as he and Kick sat down at the table, "Right Jackie?"
"Oh yeah, that's next weekend right?"
Kick nodded, "I'm surprised you forgot; you always make a big deal about it."
"That's because she loves reminding everyone Gunther's her boyfriend." Kendall teased.
"You're darn right I do! Everyone better keep their grimy little paws off my Gunther!"
"Oh stop worrying," Gunther wrapped an arm around her, "Your beauty is like stained-glass; you sparkle and shine when the sun rises, but even when it sets your inner light glows to revel your magnificence."**
"AWWW Gunther!"
"Ok…" Kendall pulled out some papers, "That practically make my teeth rot…"
"Yeah, can't you guys tone down on the mushy stuff?" Kick added.
Jackie scoffed, "I can't wait to see how you treat your girlfriend when you-"
"Anyways," Kick interrupted, "When are you girls going dress shopping?"
"You? Interested in dress shopping?" Kendall looked up from the papers before turning back to them. "That's like you asking to help me with my report."
"Well Kick does have to know what color you're going to pick for this year if he's gonna match." Gunther countered before taking a bite of his sandwhich.
"After all," Jackie continued for her boyfriend, "No one else ever asks you to Homecoming."
"Actually, André asked me," Kendall said nonchalantly. She looked up after a moment and found everyone staring at her with disbelief, "What?"
"Bu... Bu... Bu..." Jackie stammered.
"But you ALWYAS go with Kick" Gunther exclaimed, "You didn't say YES did you?!"
Kendall shook her head, "He didn't really give me a chance to answer. He just asked, told me to think about it and walked off."
It's not like I would have said yes anyways. She thought to herself.
"Well you better make sure he understands that you're my date when you reject him." Kick said suddenly, a bit harsher than he intended.
Kendall jerked her head to look at him. "What makes you think I'm your date Clarance?" She demanded, her feisty attitude resurfacing, "I don't remember you asking me to Homecoming."
The air crackled. "Did you hear something?" Gunther asked.
"Shush!" Jackie waved her arm at him.
"Well I don't remember you saying you told him yes!" Kick's voice rose as he stood up "You've always been my date to Homecoming!"
"You can't just assume that just because of the last two years I was that I'll automatically be your date again this year!" She challenged "What if I want to go with André? Ever thought of that!?"
Kendall inwardly cringed once the words left her mouth; she hadn't meant it, but her pride had gotten the better of her so she stood her ground.
Kick glared at her while jealousy squeezed at his throat, "Well if you want to go with André so badly then fine, I hope you have fun at homecoming." He turned and walked away, leaving everyone in shock.
After a few moments, Jackie broke the silence, "You are so screwed Kendall."
* Word didn't find anything wrong with 'what're', interesting right?
**I know, totally cheesy.
I'm actually very pleased with the paragraph where André talks about smart girls. Like I mentioned within the story, a lot of things have double meanings and sometimes we take things the wrong way or automatically blame something on someone because of appearances. We all know André meant the negative side but on another note, I wanted it to be as vague as possible, with what he said because honestly, how can you accuse someone when they didn't actually say anything.
For other authors, you'd be surprised how much you're able to say by rephrasing things or using different words. Give it a try!
Remember, Constructive Criticism only! And thanks for the reviews!
