This is to the lovely Moe, an anon who got me inspired. I hope you continue to like it!
Also, this is for TheDarkSideOfVenus, my amazing online friend who is partially what keeps me sane.
It's short. And I'm months late. I'm really sorry, I am. Like super sorry guys, you don't even know.
*Persephone*
One would be surprised, I believe, at how Hade's castle is not dark-not really. At least when I slip quietly out of my room, the hall is light. I do not see a torch or fire of any kind here, but somehow it is not unlike Helios' rays, shining in. It cannot be the sun, however, since I have passed through the gates of hell, and the sun does not shine here.
The hall goes in three directions once out of my room. My choices are straight ahead (veering slightly to the left) or to the right, where there is a fork in the passageway. After a few steps to the left I hear noise, almost alike to the bustle of servants! I turn around, my choices now narrowed down to two paths. I realize I must choose wisely, as one way surely leads to Hades' room. I do not wish for a run-in with my Lord Uncle, knowing now what he plans for me. I shudder, and walk to the right; hoping this way may lead to an escape- I shall deal with the fork when I reach it.
The further and further I walk, the more frightened I become. Hades' palace is simply so foreign and terrible for an innocent goddess like me to comprehend. I wonder if it simply would not be wiser to retrace my steps and return to the room Hades left me in.
Chiding myself at the notion, I continue onwards, and I am glad that I do. For coming from a door near the hall, a rainbow is protruding! I do not know the cause, but surely a sign of the goddess Iris in this place could not be a bad omen.
It is in such a hurry that I rush to this symbol of light that I do not recognize the voices I hear coming from behind the door. The first is Hades, which makes me stop dead in my footsteps, freezing with fear. However, the second voice is shocking-it is my father, Zeus, king of the heavens. For a moment, I believe that I am saved, that all I must do is burst into the room and then my father will see where I am and who kidnapped me.
I am gravely mistaken.
"So everything went according to your plans?" I hear the chuckling voice of my father, and (if it is possible for the ichor that runs in my veins to be any colder) I feel my temperature drop a few degrees. So Zeus knows of my whereabouts?
"But of course dear brother, being lord of the shadows is not simply a formality." Hades chuckles as well. "She does have a bit of your Hera in her; she was much feistier than I had thought she would be. The kicking and the screaming! I have never encountered such. Oh, and she remains adamant that you will come and save her-it takes a good portion of my godly will to refrain from informing her that I have your blessing!"
Zeus replies warily. "Well, my wife can be an influential one-at least she agrees with this union. Demeter, however, is in frenzy. You will have to watch out for that woman, Hades; she cannot believe the nerve of any person to kidnap her darling daughter. She still views the girl as a child you know, and not the young lady she has become."
Hades is over confident. "I am sure she will come around. After we are wed, at the very least."
"You must be urgent then, Hades. Find a way to claim her to your domain, and soon, for there is time yet for her to slip from your fingertips."
"I do not worry, brother-"He hushes Zeus as the younger tries to interrupt him. "I appreciate the warning nonetheless, and will act upon it. Good day, Zeus."
The rainbow disappears, and I hear the noise of my uncle as he stands. It is urgent I get away from this place, and soon, for he will find me out of my room. I do not know why that seems so terrible of an outcome to me, but it is and therefore I hurry away from that room, as fast as I can.
It does not take long to return to the place I originated, curling up under the sheets like they may solve my problems.
The unfortunate truth is they cannot, and lying in bed with nothing to do gives one a chance for their thoughts to go places they would rather forget about.
My father sent me here, and Hera helped him. They both were aware of what my fate is to entail…
My moment of distrust in my family is cut short by a curt knock on the door. I do not bother to answer, for the broad figure of the King of the Underworld enters anyways, smiling in that sly way of his that makes me very nervous.
"You are invited to dine with me tonight, Persephone." He says and then turns away, as if to leave. On his way out, he adds; "It would be a shame if you are not to enjoy the pomegranates tonight-they are perfectly ripe."
And with those final words, he leaves me, with a certain chill.
That's all for now everyone-but more coming soon! (FYI: I'm searching for a beta reader, if anyone is interested! PM me please?)
Love,
Skye
