Yay! New inspiration, I'm so happy to have finally finished this chapter. I've been working on it forever.

Well hope you enjoy :D

Dave glared out at the bullpen as he watched Penelope hastily walk away from Spencer's desk. He could just strangle those two. He had thought that after JJ's wedding, after he had prompted Spencer to do something about the Lynch situation, that things between them would be okay.

He had seen the kiss, though he doubted anyone else from the team had since they all had been preoccupied, and had been gleeful, thinking things would work out. But then Penelope had gone to England with Derek to visit Emily and when she had gotten back things between her and Spencer had been even more strained than before.

The two couldn't be in the same room without acting awkward. The slightest brush of hands, or finding themselves left alone together, sent them running.

Dave didn't know what had happened, what decision Penelope had come to in England but he really needed to knock some sense into her. Her more than Spencer since Dave was sure that it wouldn't take much for him to get the genius on board.

He rubbed a hand over his face as he heard Aaron approach him from the side. "Need another vacation already?" his friend asked.

Dave let out a harsh chuckle. He had just gotten back from his 'vacation' in Mexico and he was more stressed out than usual after spending a week doing nothing other than wondering if hopefully problems back at Quantico would work themselves out while he was gone.

"I swear I'm never going on another vacation in this lifetime," Rossi muttered as he turned to Aaron.

The unit chief raised an eyebrow at him "So what's going on between Reid and Garcia?"

Dave shook his head; of course their strange behavior wouldn't get past Aaron's keen profiling skills. Dave thought for a second, wondering what he should divulge to Aaron, considering the man hadn't been a fan of office romances in the past. However that's when Dave had been sleeping his way through the female bureau employees. He had a feeling Aaron would feel different about this situation considering who was involved.

"What would you say to heading to my place for a scotch?" Dave asked.

Aaron nodded and they gathered their things to head back to Dave's.

They didn't speak. The only sound in the car was the soft hum of the engine and the clicking of the keys on the keyboard as Penelope's fingers flew across them.

Spencer put on his blinker and leaned forward in his seat to see past Penelope and the oncoming traffic. She looked up at him and glared, something she had been doing every once in a while for the past half hour, and Spencer was getting sick of it.

Hotch had been the one to decide that they should be partners for the evening, not him but that didn't stop Penelope from directing her anger at him.

Spencer wasn't really sure why they needed Penelope with them on the case anyway, the task Hotch had given her seemed like something she could have easily done back at the precinct but Hotch had been adamant that Penelope was to ride along and that she was to go with him.

Frowning back at Penelope he made the right and then hissed "Stop looking at me like that! I didn't choose this, if you have a complaint take it up with Hotch."

Penelope rolled her eyes as she turned away "Whatever…" she muttered.

Spencer gripped the wheel tightly; she was seriously wearing on his last nerve. He didn't understand what he had done wrong. She had seemed alright at JJ's wedding when he had left her on the dance floor. It was awkward for a few weeks after that but at least they had been on speaking terms. Then People and Derek had gone to England to visit Emily and when she came back she was nothing but cold towards him.

Spencer jerkily hit the brakes and pulled over to the side of the road.

Penelope whipped her head sideways to look at him when they had come to a complete stop, her hands still tightly clenched to the sides of her laptop. "What do you think you are doing?"

"Pulling over, what does it look like?" Spencer asked.

Penelope crossed her arms over her chest "I now see why no one likes letting you drive," she spat.

Spencer's nostrils flared with anger, he was sick and tired of her attitude. "Why are you acting like this? What exactly did I do wrong?"

Penelope shook her head and looked away from him.

"This isn't my fault," he growled at her "it was you that kissed me, not the other way around, or have you forgotten?"

"Can we just drive?" Penelope said, ignoring his statement.

"No," Spencer practically growled "we can't just drive, not until we get over this. I'm tired of fighting! What is it going to take for our relationship to get back to normal? I get it okay? You're not interested in me like that, you've made that quite clear, and I won't try and make you change your mind but I can't keep fighting like this with you. It's stressful; I miss how things used to be."

Penelope was silent for a moment before she turned towards him slowly, a guilty look on her face. "Spence," she said quietly "I'm sorry, I never meant to make you feel like that. It's just all so confusing."

Spencer looked at her questioningly, hoping she would explain.

Penelope sighed, looking down at her feet "It's just, before you asked me to dance at JJ's wedding, I had decided to try and fix my relationship with Kevin, but then you kissed me again and I spent the next few weeks trying to figure out what I wanted. When I went to London with Derek, I spoke to Kevin almost every night on skype and when I came back, I thought if I avoided you it wouldn't be so hard. But I've just made a mess of things. I would never want to make you feel bad, so I'm sorry."

Spencer sighed, "It's okay," he said but he sounded disappointed.

"What?" Penelope asked.

Spencer just shook his head, facing forward in his seat, his hands going to the wheel "It doesn't matter, we should get going."

"Spencer," Penelope said softly, placing her hand on his arm and pulling it away from the steering wheel "listen, I know I've been horrible to you for the last few weeks but please don't do that. Tell me what's wrong?"

Spencer looked over, his eyes not meeting hers "Why are you trying so hard with Lynch?" he asked quietly.

Penelope's hand fell from his arm as she withdrew from him "It's hard to explain," she said "maybe we should just go."

Spencer rolled his eyes, annoyed again "Fine."

Penelope let out a heavy sigh "I messed up things with him," she said before he could put the car back in gear "I shouldn't have acted so strongly against it when he asked me to marry him, I was being stupid."

"You were scared," Spencer said "I can understand that. You're not the only one who had parents who got divorced. Marriage is a scary prospect when you have a history like that, Lynch should have taken that into consideration when he realized just how scared of marriage you were. It took him all of two minutes to decide to toss out a four year relationship."

Penelope shrugged, "There's more to it than that," Penelope said "but we're trying to work it out. Kevin's a good guy; he's giving me a second chance to make it work."

Spencer snorted "A good guy, really? The man has dated three of your 'friends' since you guys broke it off, and he's paraded it in your face. The convention? JJ's wedding? Emily's going away party? Any of those ring a bell? He's been toying with you, I thought he was dating Amy at the moment, or did he say he was going to dump her for you? You've been on a few dates right, but yet he's still dating other people..."

"Stop!" Penelope yelled at him "just leave it okay? It's not perfect but we're making it work."

Spencer grabbed Penelope's wrist and she looked up at him in surprise "What is it...?" he asked quietly "What does he have that I don't?"

Penelope shook her head, trying to pull her arm away from him but he didn't let go "You just promised not to go there. Besides, does it honestly matter? Things between Kevin and I aren't any of your business, it shouldn't matter to you if we get together."

Spencer squeezed Penelope's wrist and looked her in the eyes "Just know that if it had been me who asked you to marry me and you had said no, I wouldn't have walked away from you. I wouldn't have given up so easily. You're too special for that."

Penelope stared straight into his eyes, hers beginning to water with emotion.

Spencer let go of her hand but as he pulled away, Penelope grabbed it back. He looked at her in confusion, waiting for her to say something, his hand clasped in hers.

Penelope opened her mouth but snapped it shut again seconds later. Her eyes scanned his face, searching for some answer as she bit her lip but when he opened his mouth to speak, she seemed to reach a decision. Her other hand, which wasn't gripping his, flew up to his face and caressed his cheek.

Spencer's eyes widened as he watched her, he hadn't expected this turn of events, even if he had been hoping for something of the sort.

After a moment of silence between them, Penelope, her eyes locked with his, leaned forward and pressed her lips against his.

Spencer was quick to return the kiss and within seconds their lips were locked in a sensual dance. Penelope's laptop fell off her lap as she tried to get closer to him. They heard it thunk as it hit the ground but she made no move to pick it up.

The need to be closer spurred Spencer to push the armrest up between them, using one hand so he wouldn't have to remove himself from her. His arms then wrapped around her shoulders and he pulled her closer.

She gasped into his mouth as their bodies made contact.

After weeks of pent up lust, Spencer seemed to move on auto-pilot, his hands found their way into Penelope's shirt to cup her breasts as his tongue found her tonsils.

Penelope whimpered when Spencer's long fingers managed to creep under her bra and find one of her nipples, twisting it forcefully. Her fingers, which had moved from his cheek into his hair, now scarped against his scalp.

Spencer moaned into her mouth before pulling away to kiss down her neck, nipping here and there. His fingers worked magic beneath her shirt, pinching and pulling at her nipples to the point she was aching for his touch in other places.

"Oh my god Spencer," she panted bringing his face back to hers so she could kiss him again.

They had totally forgotten their surrounding and that they were still on the job, but were snapped back to the present when someone's cellphone began to buzz.

Spencer reared backwards, his hands slipping from under Penelope's top. He looked around hastily; his eyes landing on Penelope's kiss swollen lips, before flying downwards to look at the phone lying between them.

He took a few deep breaths to calm his beating heart, watching as Penelope straightened her clothes and slid back to her seat.

After letting the phone buzz for a while, Spencer finally composed himself enough to answer it "Hello?" he said.

"Reid?" Derek's voice asked on the other line.

"Yeah," Spencer said "what's up?"

There was a short pause before Derek asked "Why are you picking up Baby Girl's phone?"

Spencer's eyes shot to Penelope as he realized what he'd done "Oh…my mistake," he pulled the phone away from his ear and handed it to her.

Penelope took it from him and put on a wide smile as she brought the phone to her ear "Hey Hot Stuff," she flirted "no worries, our phones were just sitting next to one another."

Spencer was surprised to hear how composed she sounded, even he would believe that nothing odd had been happening between them, if he had been the one on the other line.

"Yeah, we took a wrong turn, it's so dark tonight we got the street signs mixed up but we're back on the right route now. We'll be caught up soon," Penelope was saying.

Spencer took that cue to get going. His hands flew to the wheel and soon enough he had them back on the road. When Penelope had hung up the phone he looked over at her, trying to think of what to say but Penelope beat him to it.

"Let's just forget about it for now," she said leaning over to pick up her laptop "we need to stay focused on the case."

Spencer frowned; he didn't want to chance going back to the awkwardness of the last few weeks. "We need to talk about this," he said.

"We will," Penelope said "just not right now."

"Penelope…" Spencer tried again but Penelope didn't let him finish.

"I promise Spencer, we'll talk about it soon," then she smiled at him before turning her attention back to her laptop to make sure it still worked.
