Dad's Home (But not while I'm Here)

I come home from school and put my bag on the kitchen table. "Mother…that isn't you, is it?" I ask.

"Of course not," Dad said while turning around to face me. He took a cup out of the cabinet.

"Father?" I ask.

"What is it?" Dad asked.

"Why are you here?" I question.

"Mom said I could stay here for a while." Dad answered.

I am so mad right now. I have my hands in a fist and my head down. I make my Zanpaku-to appear in my right hand. I run up to dad and he puts his hand on my Zanpaku-to blocking my attack. "Why do you have to show yourself after so long?" I wonder.

"I'm here for…" Dad started to say. "You don't want me here do you?"

"Not at all!" I answer. "If you're going to stay here bring mom and I to the Soul Society!"

"There's no way I'm going to do that." Dad said. "Why do you want me to bring you there?"

"Because," I said. "I heard from someone that the Soul Humans were killed. I want you to take me to the Soul Society because I shouldn't be alive and you and mom are to blame." I am pushing harder on my Zanpaku-to's grip and with that blood starts to drip from dad's hand.

"Just calm down Roku," Dad said. "And make your Zanpaku-to disappear."

"Not until you take us." I said.

"Never," Dad protested.

Mom came in the house and dropped her groceries on the floor. "Roku," Mom said. "Stop this at once."

I do what mom says and make my Zanpaku-to disappear. "Why did you let him stay?" I demand to know.

"Your father didn't have a place to stay." Mom answered. "Why did you hurt your dad like that?"

"You've stated it to me several times but I still don't think you understand completely." I said.

"You didn't even tell me why you hurt dad." Mom said. "Why don't you think that I'll understand?"

"Us Soul Humans aren't supposed to exist, you know that but I still don't think you understand." I answer while putting my hands in my pockets. "If the Soul Society found out I could die. The Soul Society might even take you back as well, mom. Even dad."

"Is that why you don't like dad?" Mom wonders.

"Well, that's not the only reason why." I said. "I hate dad for leaving us alone for so long."

I just look back at dad's hand. It's still dripping with blood. "That doesn't hurt, does it?" I ask sounding sarcastic.

"Not really." Dad answered. "I've had worse injuries."

"I'm sure you have." I said. "But I don't really care."

"That's it Roku." Mom's mad now. "Go to your room."

"You treat dad like he's done nothing wrong at all." I said. "He broke one of the rules in the Soul Society and he'll pay once they find out."

"He didn't break any law here." Mom said.

"I didn't say here." I told her. "I said in the Soul Society. It's a different world than here with different rules."

"Go to your room now." Mom said.

"I only mean something to you when dad's gone." I said. "How sad."

"Go to your room or leave the house." Mom demanded.

"The only reason why you don't understand is because you are human." I said. "I'm half human, half Soul Reaper. Kind of like Substitute Soul Reapers, so I know how they feel."

"Roku," Mom said. She's getting really ticked off right now.

"You don't understand what law he's broken because you're not from the Soul Society." I said. "I understand that now but you don't." I'm more ticked off than before so I just leave while slamming shut the door behind me.
