HEYGUYS! Sorry it took so long to update. It has been crazy busy!
Helga frantically searched for a nurse, any nurse.
"Nurse!"
'Arnold had moved! He moved slightly, but still he moved! He... He's coming back! Where is the nurse!?'
"Nurse!"
Helga continued to scream and she searched the hallway for a nurse. Finally, someone came up to her. The nurse looked concerned, worried! Here this girl was screaming for a nurse and looking like something awful had happened.
"Is something wrong Miss?"
"My... My... Arnold... Arnold Short. He... he moved! He's moving!"
The nurse, after hearing this, rushed into the hospital room, examining the life support system and the patient.
'Oh my god! Arnold! Arnold is alive! He's coming back! He... He's coming back!'
Helga couldn't contain her happiness, her excitement. Her mind raced with thoughts about Arnold about him waking up for her.
'What if... What if he's mad? I broke up with him before he was put into the coma! What if he blames me!?'
Helga looked at the nurse who continued her examinations.
'I don't care! He can be mad at me, he can hate me, despise me! I just want him to be alive! To come back! Please Arnold! Please be okay! PLEASE!'
Some time passed before the nurse turned around to face Helga, a smiling Helga. However, Helga's smile dropped as she saw the nurse's face.
'No... He... He moved...'
The nurse walked up to her, placing her hand on Helga's shoulder.
"I'm sorry."
"But, but he moved! I saw him move!"
The nurse dropped her arms to her side, upset about telling Helga the news.
"Sometimes during a comatose state, the body reacts by slightly moving, fingers and what-not. What you saw was just that."
Helga's face dropped. She couldn't believe it, she didn't want to believe it.
'Just a reaction.'
The nurse moved swiftly towards the door, and obvious pained expression on her face. She didn't want to tell Helga that, but she had to. Opening the door and stepping out, the nurse gave a final 'I'm sorry.' Helga stood there as she heard the door close behind the nurse.
'Just a reaction.'
It took Helga a moment before returning to her seat beside Arnold. She felt numb. In the silence of the room, she talked to herself.
"Just a reaction. That's it. I can't... I can't believe I actually thought that he... that he was waking up."
Helga just sat there for a moment or so, quiet. She had hoped that Arnold was waking up, but now, after what the nurse had said, she just wanted to remain quiet. A few minutes passed before Helga started crying and talking out loud to herself.
"I can't believe I was so naive enough to think that... that Arnold would wake up! I mean... Why! Why am I always given false hope, false expectations of what my life could be! Oh Arnold! I just want you back here! Arnold my beloved I love you! I have always loved since the moment you complemented my pink bow, since the moment you held that umbrella over my head all those years ago in the pouring rain. You were the first person to ever show me kindness, to ever truly see me! I was alone without you, always so alone! My father doesn't love me! He never did! He just loved Olga. Even now, I deal with the abuse, afraid of what he may do if I were to ever leave his wretched house. That's why I was so reluctant to... to file for abuse against him!"
Helga held in a sob and continued with her rant.
"I wanted to move in with you in the Boarding House! I wanted to! But, if I would've done that Big Bob would've killed you! I could have never lived with myself if he did! And... And Miriam. I wouldn't mind living with her now that she's sober! But no! The damn judge was in my father's pocket. 'Previous Alcoholic Tendencies!' My father abuses me, but nobody bothered to see it! You saw it though! You saw through my pain, you were the only sunshine in my life! And... And I ruined it! I did! Even when I was your bully you saw through my rough exterior and into my soft squishy soul!"
Helga brought her hands to her face, wiping away some of the tears from her eyes. She didn't feel anything but hurt, despair!
"Arnold, I love you! I love you more than you will ever know! I love your eyes, your smile, your insane need to always be compassionate, your humbleness, the way you make me feel safe, the way you care about me! I love that stupid football head of yours! The golden tufts of sunshine that are so untamed, the little blue hat placed ever so carefully on your head, and even your nobleness to wait no matter how fucking frustrating it is! I love it all! I never wanted to break up with you! I thought you... I thought you didn't love me anymore! I was afraid! I was always afraid of losing you! You could've had anyone, anyone! But, but you chose me! I didn't understand why. I didn't understand why you love me, me!
"And even now. Arnold you are my life, you are my everything! Arnold my beloved! The angels doth cry and weep as they look above to below.
"A man of perfection, a man of mine heart!
Why must we be torn apart!
Oh God of which I reluctantly pray,
Please bring back my love to me someday!
He is the epitome of my perfect sunshine.
Please bring back that which is mine!
My love, my beloved, my inner despair,
I can not resist thine golden hair.
I shall forever wait today and tomorrow,
Until then I shall be with eternal sorrow."
Helga's rant slowly came to an end, and she closed her eyes allowing the tears to slowly roll down her face. Suddenly, something grabbed her hand. It was warm, comforting. Opening her eyes, she noticed she was face to face with a pair of emerald eyes full of soul and love and a smile telling her that everything was okay. Helga couldn't believe it. Was she dreaming? Was this really happening? Widening her mouth into a huge smile, a little spark back into her eyes, Helga simply acknowledged the person there beside her, finally awake.
"Arnold!"
(3 Months Later)
"Oh, Helga! I'm so happy for you! My baby girl is all grown up."
Helga couldn't help but smile at her mother, her sober mother. Miriam had been helping Helga move into the Boarding House and even demanded to pay half the rent, at least until Helga got out of college. Miriam moved towards her daughter, giving her hug.
Since Arnold woke up, things had gotten better for Helga. She assisted Arnold every day with his intensive therapy, and he was completely rehabilitated, though Helga still wouldn't let him do much on his own. It had taken a while, but Helga actually was able to move out of Big Bob's house early, Big Bob put into prison on child abuse charges, among some other sketchy things he had been a part of that nobody really knew about until an investigation had opened on him.
So, Helga was finally free from Big Bob, free to visit her mother as often as she pleased, and free to live where she wanted. She began to wear her usual clothes again, including her pink bow on her wrist and started growing her hair out again, though there was some debate about keeping it short and dyed black.
She and Arnold had talked about what happened between them when he was able to talk again without much pain. She had apologized for days, weeks! All Arnold could do was smile and reassure her that it was okay. Now, he was there helping her move into the Boarding House glancing over at her and smiling at seeing Helga so much happier now. Miriam walked out of the room to the car outside to get another box of Helga's things. In seeing this, Helga paused for a moment while putting her books away. She wanted to ask Arnold something, but wasn't sure how.
"Arnold?"
"Yeah, Helga?"
Helga had to think for a moment. How did she want to word this?
"I..." She paused for a moment. It was a weird question, and she wasn't sure if she should ask.
Arnold saw her indecision and walked up behind her, giving her a hug. He wanted her to be able to ask him anything, anything! Giving her a small kiss on her cheek, Arnold said,
"Helga, you can ask me anything. You can tell me anything. I love you, remember?"
Helga felt reassured, at least a little reassured.
"I wanted to ask... Well... If it's not a bother... What is it like... to be in a coma?"
Arnold stepped away from Helga, prompting her to turn around, afraid that maybe she made him feel a little uncomfortable. Instead, she just saw him with his hand on his chin, thinking intently.
"Well, it was weird. It was like a huge, giant, long dream. But, it felt so real. Like, it wasn't like a normal dream. It was continuous and everything about it intertwined with each other. It was as if I was living another life."
Arnold shrugged as he finished his explanation, bringing his arms down to his side. He wasn't sure if he worded that right, but it was his best explanation. Seeing the confused look on Helga's face, he just had to ask,
"Does that makes sense?"
"I guess it does."
Helga smiled at what Arnold had said.
'At least it wasn't as miserable an experience for him as it was for me.'
"Can you tell me what happened in this dream?"
Arnold was facing away from Helga as she asked this question, so she couldn't see the very red blush form on his face. He didn't intend on telling Helga what he dreamed about, not because it was bad, just it was something like a fantasy that felt real.
"Well..." He cleared his throat. "Um... heh well, we... uh.. we were, uh, married with two kids."
Arnold turned around to face Helga, the blush very noticeable on both of their faces, though Arnold couldn't see Helga blushing because he was looking down at the floor.
"And, uh, well, things happened... Good things! Uh yeah, good things... and um..."
Helga could help but laugh at Arnold, causing him to blush even more, if that was even possible.
'He's just so fucking adorable!'
'Oh, God! This is embarrassing!'
Helga stopped laughing and walked up to Arnold, wrapping her arms around his neck. He, in turn, wrapped his arms around her waist, still blushing. She leaned in and gave him a kiss, a small, yet passionate kiss.
"Aww!"
Helga and Arnold opened their eyes wide. They hadn't expected somebody to be watching them... Well, somebodies! Everyone watched the two teens, and by everyone I mean all the boarders, Arnold's grandparents and parents, and Helga's mother. Helga let go of Arnold, blushing at the same intensity as he was. Miles, Arnold's father, decided to break the silence.
"You two better get used to this. We are your family, you know, and when you leave a door open, you are surely gonna get an audience."
Everybody laughed at this, including Arnold and Helga. Helga couldn't help but look from each person to person and then to a smiling Arnold. It was everything she ever wanted!
She had a family who loved her and a boyfriend who loved her. What more could she ask for? Big Bob was gone and couldn't hurt her anymore, her mother loved her, her friends loved her, and Arnold? Arnold was alive, ALIVE! He was back and she wasn't about to ever lose him again, and she wouldn't. Everything in her life was finally perfect. And, that's all that mattered.
And there you go! A happy ending :) Aw... Sorry it seemed rushed, I've been focusing a lot on another fan fiction idea and I guess just loss my... what's it called... inspiration... for this one. Anyway, tell me whatcha think? Review! YAY!
