Chapter 3

Dinner could be described as awkward at best. Acacia had quickly realized Natasha wasn't a talker and that Tony and Steve didn't exactly get along well. Or maybe they got along extremely well. She wasn't really sure which.

"I think it's about time we talk about shield." Acacia glanced to see that Natasha had finished her food. Her eyes were still calculating her every move. "What do you know?"

"That I'm clearly not supposed to know about it, but it's a part of the government," Acacia answered honestly. Sure, she left out the part about them hunting her down and trying to force her into their system, but that was okay. "Oh, and all of you work for it."

"That would be correct," Tony stated. He let a grin cross his face. "All you need to do is follow directions. The Captain is just taking you to get your prints in the system."

Acacia tensed. Her prints were already in the system from a while back. They'd know who she is immediately. Acacia glanced toward Natasha. She had undoubtedly caught the small movement.

"You're not going to… dissect me or something," she muttered, she pretended to be more nervous than she was.

"Do we have a reason to?" Natasha asked.

"Does the government need one?" Acacia watched as her lips twitched trying to avoid smiling. Looks like the two of them would get along if either attempted to, but that wasn't going to happen. Men were easier to trick than women. It was a fact of life for Acacia, even though she could be easily tricked by men.

"There's the clever girl I met earlier." You turned to see a wide grin across Tony's face. "Isn't she a keeper Captain?" Said man blushed before scowling at Tony. At least he wasn't totally oblivious to the opposite sex. Although he probably would never act on his own.

"Getting back to Shield," Steve stated. "You're right. And I don't really want to tell you a lot about it. Agent Romanoff was made a point that you can't protect yourself, so I don't feel comfortable with releasing information that you don't have to know that could put your life in danger. It wouldn't be fair to you. We just have to set some ground rules."

Acacia stopped herself from rolling her eyes. She was fully capable of handling herself if need be. She was probably near their strength, but she lacked in stamina. It was her downfall.

"You don't have to act like her father Captain," Tony said. He ran a hand through his hair.

"I'm doing this for her safety!" Steve shot the other man a stern look.

"Basically don't speak unless spoken to. Don't look anything creepy in the eyes. Don't touch anything even if you're given permission. And above all stay in the Captain's line of vision. You'll be lucky if he lets you pee alone." Tony had his classic smirk plastered on his face.

"Very well Mr. Stark I will see to it that I follow your rules." Acacia glanced at all everyone at the table and they seemed to be very calm. It would be the perfect time for a question. "Why exactly am I going to Shield tomorrow?"

"Basically, it's to make sure you're synchronized with the PR representatives," Steve replied. "They want to make sure you can handle my media life. You don't really have to go there often."

"I see. It shouldn't be a problem really," Acacia stated. She was about to say something when Natasha stood up and abruptly left the table. "Was it something I said?"

"Nope Natasha is always like that when Clint is gone," Tony said. "Hormones tend to get the best of her."

"Tony!" Steve warned. It was obvious that the man wasn't even comfortable with subject of sex being implied.

"With that I'll be leaving!" He stood up ready to dash off. "Bye bye Acacia darling."

"I'll never get used to that will I?" Steve laughed at Acacia's little joke. It was the first time that she had seen a hint of a smile on his face.

"Tony is a bit of an acquired taste I'm afraid." Acacia shrugged her shoulders in response. Both of them had already finished their dinner and yet neither was making a move to leave. It was rather odd to her. "I'm sorry you were dragged into this."

"It's not a problem Mr. Rogers." He seemed to flinch at the name.

"What will it take for you to call me Steve?" he asked. Acacia thought it over and a small smile came to her lips. It made him realize that he had underestimated her for a second. There was a feeling that she knew something he didn't and an intelligent sparkle in her brown eyes that was dangerous. Was she dangerous? Then her eyes got a bitter look in them as she sighed and all signs of danger were gone. She was calm, almost eerily so.

"Promise me you won't miss me when I leave."

"You're planning on leaving so soon?" he asked puzzled.

"Not too soon, but I was serious when I said I was only here to help out a friend. I just want to help them get back on their feet before returning home. I am pretty young and my family worries about me."

Not true. All of it was lies. Her friend was just fine and she was here to only help herself. Her family didn't give a damn. They thought she was a monster and were probably happy that she was believed to be dead. She was better dead in their eyes and her past friends' eyes.

"I see…" he trailed off obviously in thought. "We could keep in contact when that happens. I never mind going to see a friend every now and then."

"I'm your employee not a friend. I mean no offense by saying this, but I do not desire to be your friend. I don't desire to have many things really. It's not that I don't want to be your friend it's just better that neither of us get too attached."

"I understand. Would you like me to walk you to your room?" Acacia let out a bitter laugh at the ever so polite offer.

"No, I'm fine. Thank you for your offer though Mr. Rogers."

"I promise you can call me Steve."

"All right then Steve."

OO00OO

"JARVIS, how private is the bathroom?" Acacia asked. She had been lying bored on her bed for around six hours. Pretty sure that everyone else had gone to sleep already.

"Very. Pepper made sure of it thanks to Mr. Stark causing a little incident…"

"Thanks that is all I needed to know. I can finally go take care of my womanly needs."

Acacia got up and walked into the bathroom after she turned on the light. She quickly checked under the sink and found the things she needed. She brought out toilet paper, drain cleaner, a small bowl, and disinfectant. She took her hand and turned the faucet so that cold water was pouring out of it. She waited for it to get ice cold before she proceeded with her plan.

She mixed the disinfectant with the drain cleaner and took a deep breath.

"The things I have to do because of fucking Shield."

She dipped the tips of her fingers into the solution and stopped herself from screaming out in pain by biting on her cheek. She could the metallic taste of blood flowed through her mouth, but she kept quiet as she held her fingers there until she was positive that her finger prints had been removed.

She then removed them and quickly let her powers flow through her. Intricate swirls of purple were made from her imagination in the shape of her finger prints that she had created in her fake bacground. She took another deep breath and forced them onto herself. She didn't stop the cry of pain that left her, but thankfully it wasn't too loud. She made sure it tore through her skin enough to leave a scar.

She immediately removed the purple energy from her finger tips and stuck them under the ice cold water. It stung at first, but the numbness it provided soon came to sooth her.

"I so hate my life…"

After about ten minutes she was able to remove them and inspected her work. She was thankful that she had done it correctly the first time. The tips of her fingers looked normal enough and the white scarring looked like a normal finger print.

"And so my new life begins once again."

Look! It didn't take me over a year to update! This is seriously an accomplishment haha. Well this story is coming along and I have a few major plot points to get in its all the stuff between that I have to figure out. However, the ideas for next chapter is a visit to Shield headquarters also I apologize for not making Shield S.H.I.E.L.D, but it was getting annoying to constantly type it.

Thank you for reading!

Reviews really do make me update faster, so please leave one. :)
