Quinn reached the hospital and came to a screeching halt in a nearby parking spot. She ran inside and went to the elevator, riding all the way up to Santana's room. She saw a bunch of nurses crowded around the door, talking about Santana waking up so she walked over and tried to get into the room but a nurse stopped her.
"Excuse me miss, where do you think you're going?" The nurse asked her calmly. Quinn was already frustrated so she tried to stay calm as well.
"I was informed that my best friend has woken up from her coma and I'd like to see her right now. Even for just a few minutes just please, let me see her." Quinn was getting even more irritated by the second but the nurse nodded and stepped away from the door, letting her inside.
The blonde walked in and saw Santana sitting up, Rachel sitting in the chair by the bed and Brittany sitting right next to Santana. She smiled at the Latina and walked over to the three girls.
"I'm glad to see you're finally awake. I knew you'd pull out of it because you're stubborn as hell." She grinned and sat at the end of the bed. Her gaze fell upon the blonde sitting next to her best friend and she gave her the signature eyebrow raise making the girl feel a guilty pull in her stomach.
There was an awkward silence amongst them all. Santana was running her fingers over the thing sheet on the bed, Brittany twisted her fingers in her lap, Quinn looked over at Rachel and they shared a confused sort of look.
The tiny brunette stood up and walked over to her lover. "Well, I think Quinn and I are going to speak with one of the nurses and fill out papers to see if we can bring you home.
"I'm glad you're back S." The blonde shot the words over her shoulder, following closely behind the tiny Diva.
With that, the two left the room, closing the door lightly behind them.
A few weeks / months later.
Santana was finally released from the hospital after a few weeks. They had to do some tests to see if she was going to be okay. Turns out, she was perfectly fine other than the cuts and bruises that were from impact. The two girls slept down stairs for the majority of the time, due to the fact that they couldn't help each other get up the stairs.
Soon enough, Brittany was able to walk at almost full ability. She still had a brace on, but that didn't stop her from helping Santana up the stairs every night. And by helping, she carried her up the stairs every time.
Quinn and Rachel came over a lot in those few months and helped with the cleaning up and cooking dinner. After Brittany was able to do things on her own again, the couple only came over a few days a week, leaving the cooking and cleaning to Brittany.
It had been a while before either of the two said anything pertaining to the accident. Sure they talked about it here an there but they never said anything about what happened before. What caused the fight and what they were doing. It was like they tried to suppress the memory of it. One night eventually brought everything out.
Brittany was in the kitchen, door closed, cleaning up and starting on making dinner. The blonde started going through all of the cupboards, cleaning up and getting rid of some of the out-dated stuff. She came across the cupboard where her alcohol was. Surprisingly Quinn hadn't found it and thrown it out yet. The blonde found three bottles of vodka she had boughten a few weeks before the accident. She set them on top of the counter, waiting till the end of her cleaning spree to get rid of them. In the midst of everything, Santana made her way into the kitchen, spotting the blonde on the floor, digging stuff out of the pantry. She smiled and looked over to the counter. She felt enraged within seconds. Not knowing what to say about the alcohol sitting on her counter top. The glass she had in her hand had now dropped, scattering across the floor, startling Brittany.
The blonde's head snapped around, looking at the Latina in the doorway. Glass was shattered everywhere, it even made itself over to her foot. She carefully stood up and grabbed the broom and dustpan. "San, are you okay? Do you need to sit down or something..?" Her voice was soft and calming.
Santana gave her a death glare, tears forming in her eyes, her anger rising from deep within. "I honestly cannot believe you right now." Her tone harsh and piercing.
Brittany looked confused but soon followed the brunettes gaze over to the alcohol sitting on the counter. "San, I was just-"
She was cut off instantly. "How could I be so fucking stupid? How did I not see this. You obviously do not give a shit about our relationship do you." She said it like it was a fact. "Did you think that it would be okay for you to just pull out a bottle and continue with what got us into this mess?" Tears starting flowing down her cheeks, Brittany mirroring the action except her tears came from fear, not anger.
"Santana-"
"No! I'm not going to stand here and listen to another bullshit story Brittany. You fucked up a long time ago and I was stupid, so stupid to think you'd change." Her voice was bold but would waver in and out, trying to to completely break down.
"Santana, please just listen to m-"
"I'm done listening. And three bottles Brittany? Like one bottle isn't enough already." Santana turned around and stormed out of the room.
Brittany didn't even know what to say or do. If Santana would just let her explain what she was doing, she wouldn't be so angry.
The blonde stood up and grabbed one of the bottles of alcohol, opened it and walked to the sink. She looked at the liquid for a minute then dumped it down the drain. She did the same with the other two bottles and when she was finished, she smashed them on the floor. Tears streaming down her face. Her relationship was in a worse situation that it has ever been in and she had no idea what to do.
The glass from the three bottles covered the entire floor. The broom and dustpan were across the room and Brittany just sunk to the floor, tears in her eyes. She took her phone out of her front pocket and dialed Rachel's number. The phone rang a few times until the Diva picked up.
"Hey Brittany, whats up?" Her tone was chipper. Brittany took a few seconds to reply.
"H-hey Rach… um, I um.." Tears continued to stream down her face, uncontrollable sobs coming out now and again. "I just needed to talk to you.. I um, I found three bottles of alcohol from before the accident and… Santana, she walked in here before I was going to dump them out and she got really mad… and I don't know what to do. She won't le- let me say anything or explain.."
Rachel bit her lip, trying to figure out a way to help Brittany, but when Santana got mad, she would stay mad, but she was never this angry at Brittany.
"I-I wasn't going to drink it, I swear on my life.. I was cleaning the kitchen and I found th-them stashed away in a cupboard and I set them on the counter. I was g-going to dump them out after I finished but now there's glass all over the floor and I just.. I don't know what to do. I've been trying so hard since the accident and I tried doing everything to make her happy and I was going to do th-the right thing and empty the bottles and…"
"Brittany, take a deep breath, calm down, its alright okay? Just take a few deep breaths and calm yourself before you do anything. Santana just needs some time to think about this alone right now. Just continue with what you were doing earlier and just relax and wait for her to come to you."
"But what if she doesn't want to talk to me..? What if she doesn't want me in her life ever again? I didn't do anything wrong this time Rach.. I.." Her tears started coming faster now, her heart breaking in half.
"Brittany, try and just calm down and breath. It's going to be okay. Look, I have to go right now, I'm working but I'll call you when I'm done okay?"
Brittany ended the call, not saying anything in return. She looked at the glass on the floor and decided to stand up and clean it. She dumped all of the glass inside of the garbage can and continued to clean the rest of the kitchen. The food on the stove was still simmering and by now it was done. She washed her hands and made a plate up for Santana and put it on the dinner table. She moved to the living room and cleaned up everything then headed upstairs. She held back tears as she knocked on the door.
"S-santana.. there's food on the table for you if you're hungry." It was completely silent on the other side of the door. Santana was probably laying on the bed, curled up in a ball trying to forget everything. The blonde swallowed hard before turning back to go downstairs. By the side of the staircase there was a desk with a notebook and pen sitting on top. For a second, she thought about just leaving the house for the night but instead she grabbed the pen and paper.
"Santana,
I know it looked like I was going to keep those bottles, especially with my past history but I found them in the cupboard. I wasn't going to drink them. I was keeping them on the counter until I was done cleaning then I was going to dump them out. You probably heard me downstairs.. after I dumped them out I smashed the bottles on the ground. I cleaned it up, along with the rest of the kitchen and the living room. I put the food away so you don't have to clean anything when you decide to come out of the room. I'm sorry. I really am. If you need me or decide to talk to me again, I'll be in the backyard. I figure you don't want me in the house so I'll be in the tent.
I'm sorry, again.
I love you..
Brittany."
She put the note by the plate of food in the dining room, grabbed a blanket and headed outside. The tent was still set up from the last time they went out there so she just went inside and curled up with the blanket she grabbed. She still had her phone with her so every few seconds she would look at it to see if she had any messages or phone calls. Brittany felt like Rachel would have been more helpful, usually she was full of advice. She sighed and looked up at the top of the tent.
"Maybe I should just go to sleep for a while.. maybe then she'll talk to me.." With that, she closed her eyes, but her mind still wandered. Her brain filled with thoughts of the accident and everything that's happened. She tossed and turned for a little bit before hitting the ground in frustration. Brittany grabbed her phone and clicked on the music app and went through a bunch of songs before she finally clicked on one. The familiar song blared out of the speakers, filling her mind.
"Give me love like her, cause lately I've been waking up alone, Pain splattered teardrops on my shirt, told you I'd let them go…."
Brittany started to hum along to the beginning and continued singing the song.
"And that I'll fight my corner, maybe tonight I'll call ya, after my blood turns into alcohol, No I just wanna hold ya…
Santana could here every word of the song clearly. She had opened the window when she heard the back door shut. She sat at the window, looking down at the tent. When it came to the courses she joined in the song.
"Give a little time to me or burn this out, we'll play hide and seek to turn this around, all I want is the taste that your lips allow, My my my my. give me love, my my my my, give me love, my my my my, give me love, my my my my, give me love..
The song continued but Brittany stopped singing. She started sobbing and Santana could hear her faintly. She was so god damn angry at the blonde but she feels so lost with out her.
Santana made her way down the stairs, looking at the table. She saw a note placed next to the plate of food and sat down. After reading the letter, she took a small bite of food, feeling the hunger in her stomach. She finished some of the food and decided to head outside to the tent. It wasn't zipped up so she didn't have to worry about freaking Brittany out with the sound. The Latina slipped into the tent gently, trying not to wake the now sleeping blonde. She closed her eyes for a few second and opened them again, her eyes roaming all over the blondes face. Her eyes were all puffy, red lines down her face. She wasn't the only one who had been crying.
Brittany's phone was still playing soft music but Santana unlocked the phone and paused it. She moved a little closer to the blonde and placed a kiss on her cheek. She decided to stay in the tent for a while, curling up close to Brittany.
"I'm sorry Brittany." She whispered into the air before closing her eyes.
