A/N: This is my first posted Nashville fic. I have quite a few others that I'd like to have a beta reader for before I post them. This song came on my shuffle the other day and gave me this idea. Luke writes a song for Rayna. Let me know if you want to see more, maybe what happens next. Song credit goes to George Strait – Don't Tell Me You're Not in Love.
After their performance of Ball and Chain, Luke felt like he'd won Rayna over. She was flirtatious on stage, and even after back in the hotel. The next morning he called Gunnar, since Rayna had accompanied the still shy Scarlett to some radio appearances. "Hey man. What's up?" Gunnar asked when he saw Luke in the lobby.
"I came up with a new chorus last night. I was thinkin you could help me finish it up" Luke suggested.
Gunnar nodded, "definitely. I can go get my guitar and we can get to work"
Luke agreed and then they met in a conference room. Three hours later they'd come up with another song, Don't Tell Me You're Not in Love.
"This about anybody?" Gunnar asked, when they went to go tell the band he was playing it that night.
Luke smiled, thinking of Rayna, the pretty honey blond woman that shared the stage, and his bed the night before. "Nobody in particular..."
The band learned the song in two hours and Luke couldn't wait. He smiled when Rayna was dressed and ready for the show sitting in his room. He kissed her forehead, "Ball and Chain tonight?"
She nodded, smiling. She had fun singing with him on stage. He helped her get back into it after the accident, and it was easy and she felt comfortable with him on stage.
They did another flirtatious performance of their new duet and it won over the Georgia crowd. She was walking off stage as Luke started talking about a brand new song and the pretty girl he wrote it about. The girl was nameless, but Rayna knew. She stayed close by as the band started playing a slow, steady melody. He glanced at her and smiled before singing.
I know you're ready you show all the signs
Your eyes sparkle oh how they shine
But you keep saying you can't take another heartache
The way you hold me the way that you move
Your feelings keep showing through
You can't hide it it's written all over your face
Don't tell me you're not in love
When your heart beats like it does
You trembling body tells on you
Each time we touch
You can tell me you're afraid
I am too and that's okay
I got eyes I can see
Baby don't tell me you're not in love
Sweet love songs bring you to tears
Come on baby don't hide in your fear
Let your lips say what your heart already knows
Your denial is last thing to fall
The only brick left holding the wall
Don't hold back speak with your heart and your soul
Don't tell me you're not in love
When your heart beats like it does
You trembling body tells on you
Each time we touch
You can tell me you're afraid
I am too and that's okay
I got eyes I can see
Baby don't tell me you're not in love
I got eyes I can see
Baby don't tell me you're not in love
She felt herself grinning like an idiot the entire time, but the simple song tugged at her heart strings and made her teary eyed. She stood close by the stage for the rest of the show and swayed along to his familiar music.
After he finished, he came backstage, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and pecked her cheek. She felt herself blushing, and melting with his gentleness.
