Chapter 6 - Zola is home for good

She couldn't believe it. Zola was here. In her arms. How often she dreamed this moment. She was hugging her little girl. Nothing or no one were existing right now. There was only her little girl. Safe in her arms.

"Meredith?" Derek called her.

Meredith raised her cheek from Zola's head. She looked her husband in a quizzical way.

"You didn't hear a single word of what I've just said, did you?" Derek said in amused voice. Meredith said no and Derek moved his head in a negative way. Smiling.

"I've just said that the judge granted you Zola's permanent custody", said Janet, Zola's social worker.

"She is ours?" asked Meredith.

"Yes Dr. Grey", said a smiling Janet. "Inside the bag, there are Zola's things. Her clothes and toys", said the woman putting the diaper bag down near Derek.

"Thank you Janet", said Derek. Meredith, with her baby safely in her arms, hugged Janet whispering a thank you in her ear. Janet smiled and went out, leaving the couple with their daughter.

Meredith moved to the kitchen quietly talking to Zola and Derek followed her taking the diaper bag. He put on the table and took out the formula and the bottle.

"We have to go and buy her things. Like more clothes, toys and furniture", she said while fixing Zola a bottle. She knew Zola was hungry in a few moments.

"Why we don't eat first, then catching up with some sleep and then we can go shopping", he said. "We're up for 48 hours" he said. Just a few hours ago, Meredith was exhausted, she was ready to go to sleep on the kitchen table. Now she was fully awake, bouncing with energy. It was Zola's miracle. She was herself again.

"Yeah, you're right", she said. Zola began to fuss and Meredith knew that she was hungry. Her bottle was ready. Meredith sat in one of the chairs in the room and began to fed her. While she was sucking her bottle, Meredith was sniffing and from her eyes tears began to come down.

"I'm so sorry baby girl. I shouldn't have done what I did", she said crying slowing on Zola's head. " I am not leaving you anymore", she said sniffing.

Derek was watching the scene from the door. He went to take the pizza Meredith ordered before. He knew Meredith was hurting when Zola was taken, but he never realized how much. While he showed his sorrow, she was hurting inside, in dept.

Slowly Derek walked to his girls. He hugged Meredith tenderly and lovingly. He kissed her head. Neither said anything. They was happy now. Zola was here with them. This is what all matter. They ate in silence. Finally the tiredness was catching up with them. Zola was sleeping in Meredith's arms. slowly they reached the bedroom and she put Zola in her cot. She kissed her head. She tucked her in.

"Sleep tight baby girl", he said. He kissed his baby girl and joined his wife in bed. He spooned her and literally passed out.

They woke up a couple of hours after with Zola wide awake. Meredith took her and put her on their bed between them.

"She is here. It's not a dream" whispered touching her head. "Yes, she is finally here", said Derek watching the interaction between his girls. She is here she belong".
