I do not own Torchwood, or any of the characters in this piece except for Skye Iwasaki who is my own creation.
Chapter Ten
Skye arrived early at the Hub the next morning, settling at her desk before the others started to appear. When they did, she was buried in her work with only the briefest glance up for Toshiko as the Japanese woman joined her at the computer beside her.
When Ianto brought them coffee, there was a weak smile but no kiss like there had been for the last few weeks, and this time he didn't dawdle beside her making idle conversation, making a silent statement to the other members of the team that their relationship was off. Toshiko took a glance over at the younger woman, taking a full ten minutes to think over exactly what to say and the right tone before she even tried.
"I...I'm sorry..."
"Hmm?"
"About you and...and...Ianto...if you needed to talk...?"
Skye flicked her eyes up to the other woman's, a slow smile passing over her lips before she gave a little shake of her head.
"There's nothing to be sorry about...it's what we both wanted...and anyway...I..."
"Skye, here. Now."
Skye turned, getting out of her chair instantly as she heard Jack's tone and made her way into the office which was shut at her back.
"What?"
A grim expression was painted on Jack's face as he motioned the monitoring system he had up on his screen. Skye crossed to the desk, frowning a little until she recognised the tracking system that they had created for her originally when she'd started working for Torchwood.
"How is this relevant?"
"...it runs off your DNA code, right?"
"Yes...so...? It picks me up...that's what it was designed for...well done?"
"No...it picks up your race."
Jack's lips pursed as he crossed behind her, pointing out the little dot on the screen that indicated her within the Hub, and then another dot halfway across the city before he set his hand lightly on her shoulder.
"And if you're here, then who's the other one?"
Skye swallowed, sitting back in the chair as she began to chew at her lips. Her gaze passed down to the bands around her wrists though it was another moment before she spoke.
"Take them off."
Jack let out a sigh as Skye's gaze moved up to meet his, her lips pursed.
"Take them off and I can find him"
