Chapter Twelve
"...Leave? That's what I've been trying to tell you – we have to leave."
Skye rolled her eyes, pushing his hands away as he tried to hold her close again. She stepped away, though she turned so he could see her visible anger.
"You don't get it, do you? No matter what you do or say, however long you wait, I'm not coming with you. I don't belong with *you*."
"You're my wi..."
"Once, I may have agreed...but not now. Not anymore. I don't want to be with you, Tam, I never did. Why can't you see that?"
"We're bound for life, Kila...you were bound to me as my wife when we were born...you can't change that, no matter where you are."
Tam glowered at her, the storm growing fiercer as their anger at each other grew. He took a step to her, gripping her wrist tightly so she couldn't pull away from him again.
"How many men have you let have you since you've been away from me, eh? Do you think that changes what you are, what your duty is? You can't escape that – however many times you play the whore, you are *still* my wife. You still answer to me. And you are still coming home with me."
Tam tightened his grip when she tried to pull away, reaching into his pocket for the teleporter he'd been able to retrieve from the site where they'd passed through the rift. As he went to teleport them both, a fierce bolt of blue electric light sparked at him from Skye's direction, hitting him square in the chest. He let go of Skye, stumbling back as the teleporter began to teleport him off the planet.
"...Jack, you need to look at this."
Jack moved from where he'd been monitoring Skye's movements in his office down to Toshiko's desk, standing behind her so he could see what she was attempting to show him on the screen.
"We've just had a huge spike of Rift energy about 2 miles outside the city. On top of that...the weather monitor's been going haywire in that area and across the city all day. In the last hour, it's been showing the equivalent of the sea...inland. Same area as the Rift surge."
Jack gave a slow nod, a concerned frown appearing across her face when he realised it was in the same area where he'd tracked Skye and Tam. He stepped back, going to his office for the SUV keys and his trenchcoat.
"Owen, Suzie, Ianto – with me. Tosh, keep an eye on those readings and inform us if anything more changes."
