And here we are again! It's a short one, but it's another piece of the puzzle, so enjoy!
Booth's New Apartment, Chicago
Booth had finally arrived in the Windy City, and was permanently staying there this time around. He'd been unpacking his belongings over the course of the weekend, and was down to the last few boxes.
The final box he opened contained two things, the wooden box Hank had given him after his father had passed away, which he still hadn't opened, and a leather bound box that contained his own personal mementos.
He carried both boxes into his bedroom, shoving the wooden box into the depths of his closet, and placing the leather one on his bed. He opened it, picking out it's contents one by one. It was mainly newspaper clippings, with a few photos and mementos here and there.
He unfolded the first clipping, he and Brennan's smiling faces glancing up at his currently blank one. It was the story on the solving of their first case together, the one with the An Unlikely Pair headline.
The majority of the newspaper clippings were about he and Brennan's cases, but there were also a few from his high school football days as well. The majority of his photos were also of he and Brennan or of him and Parker.
What saddened him was the lack of photos of him and his daughter. He wondered who she looked like now, him or Brennan? Were her eyes still green, or had they turned darker as she had aged? Was she a genius like Brennan, or average like him?
Looking through the leather box made him realize just how much he misses Brennan, misses her laugh, her honesty, her lack of pop culture knowledge. They didn't act the same towards each other anymore. They were both so cold and distant to one another during the past year and a half.
It angered him to realize how stupid he had been. He still felt something for Brennan, but he had forgotten those feelings momentarily by blinding himself with his relationship with Hannah. But now, with their relationship spiraling downhill, those feelings for Brennan were hitting him again at full force.
He needed his partner back, he needed his best friend back. There was nothing he wanted more than to be a part of her and Amelia's life, but he wasn't looking forward to that conversation. He had a feeling that he was going to be let down again, regardless of what Angela had said about Brennan having a change of heart.
But even if he is let down again, he'll keep on trying, because he's tired of crying over something that he'd let slip through his own fingers.
It was time for him to make his move on the chess board that seemed to be his life these days. Standing up from the side of his bed, he grabbed the crumpled up paper out of his pocket that contained an address, grabbed his coat, and set out into the afternoon.
Brennan's Apartment, Chicago
Amelia was being very fussy for Brennan today. Brennan thought maybe the child was catching a cold, but she wasn't certain.
"She looks so much like him now." Brennan thought, watching her daughter's brow furrow in dissatisfaction.
And the truth it was. Amelia's facial expressions were nearly identical to her father, as was her apetite.
Brennan knew Booth was now living in Chicago, due to Angela's frequent updates, but she didn't expect him to make an appearance any time soon. She assumed he was going to try and work out his relationship with Hannah before he tried to mend fences with her.
Brennan also wasn't expecting the knock on her front door that sounded shortly after she put Amelia down for a nap. She assumed it was Angela, dropping by for another 'girl talk'.
However, her assumption was proven wrong when she opened the door, and saw the jean wearing FBI agent holding a bag of Chinese food.
It seemed like an eternity before either of them spoke, but in reality, it was only a few seconds.
"Hey, Bones," he said, "lets talk."
Yep, I ended it like that. Guess you'll have to stick around to see what happens next. Remember to review! :)
