"Light I believe we should use this chance, we might not have another where we know his location." L stared at Light as if he was documenting his movements. "He'll be prepared for me and if any of you go… you will die."
L's thumb met his mouth, "and you won't?" "I have a better chance than any of you." L swiveled in his chair, "it's possible we could stay a distance behind, it's unlikely he has enough tech to recognize any listening devices."
"Then we don't have much time left."
This time when Light saw the shinigami crowding the corner he sighed, "Light you know you can't go through with this."
Light sat on the bed grudgingly, "I can."
"If you get separated from the scythe again-" "Then I'll get it back." "If you get killed without it you'll be erased, not like when the humans die, this is complete nothingness, you'll have no realm of your own." "Ryuk." "Even the shinigami won't be able to see you Light." "I know, I'll bring it…" "I'm telling you not to go, and that boy"… Ryuk muttered "those eyes are true shinigami eyes… don't trust him." Ryuk began to pass through the wall, "if I were you I wouldn't trust anyone of either realm."
Light curled among the blankets when the door creaked open, he eyed Beyond as he entered the room, finishing whatever researching or questioning, perhaps he went through both. Beyond sat next to Light sighing as he looked over giving what Light figured was an honest smile, "sorry I believe I'll need to use your shower again."
Light nodded and waited until he returned, able to stay awake this time, he even secured some pajamas for the man to use. Beyond yawned as he got dressed, settling to lay down next to Light. "Why do you look so much like Ryuzaki?"
"I started impersonating him when I was attempting to become L."
"So multiple people try to become the next L?"
"And other letters as well, but yes the most try to become L."
"Did you?" "Not as much as A." "A?" "We both joined the orphanage around the same time, we trained to be letters together." A laugh that reminded him of Ryuk's escaped his lips, "we were the first."
Light allowed him to blankets he had been huddled in, "what are the eyes like?" "Death isn't unpredictable, except when I look in the mirror, or at you for that matter." "You can't see the date?" "No." "That- normally only when you look at others with the eyes, or someone who used a death note." "It bothers me that I can't, you can see the eyes?" "Yes."
"Why do you keep the scythe?" "It- was a gift of sorts, it functions as a link between realms." "How many realms are there?" "I've been to three but there's at least four…"
Light yawned as he accepted the warmth and comfort of the hand curling around him. They both smiled so slightly as they nodded off.
Waking this time wasn't as strange, they both managed to clamber out to work once again." "Ryuzaki." "Yes?"
"Even if you're behind, wear masks, even partial ones will work."
"Will you being wearing a mask?"
"He already knows my name so it'd be pointless."
"Light, he easily could be determined to kill you."
"I'm not sure what he wants but- I don't think that's it."
"What makes you think so Light?"
"I just knew him before…"
"Is there anything of use you know about him?"
"He's aggressive."
