Chapter 14 – Impend
Sato Mansion
It was mid-day and everything had been normal ever since Magneto's attack on Tarrlok's office, but the Master of Magnetism hadn't escaped from Korra's mind. So much power in one individual and the views that rivaled Amon's…are they connected somehow? Korra had to know or she would be fighting a two-front conflict.
Korra had been invited to Asami's mansion where the brothers were staying at; Thor decided to stay in the island. He needed to do something…private. "Hey guy." Korra greeted them as they swan in the indoor pool.
"Hello Korra!" Bolin yelled as he played with Mako in the pool.
"Hey Korra, where's your swimsuit?" Asami asked. "And where's the blonde dude?"
"I don't have one." Korra shrugged. "Thor's back in the island, he had to do something."
Mako swan next Asami and dried his hair with a towel. "We heard what happened back on City Hall, hard to believe a guy like Magneto even exists."
"Isn't he like a metalbender?" Asami asked.
"Maybe, but he used his bending in a way that would pale an expert metalbender in comparison." Korra replied as she sat on a nearby chair. "So what are we doing today?"
Air Temple Island
Thor was sitting on the grassy yard outside the temple; he had made a circle composed of stones. In the middle was a patch of dirt and sticks. His instructor back in Asgard had showed him how to contact the Astral Plane or the out worldly that make up the Nine Worlds and beyond. This ritual just needed imagery and meditation.
To help him do this, Tenzin sat on the other side of the stone circle. The airbending master guided the young prince through his meditation, putting scented sticks on area around them. "Concentrate." Tenzin said. "Focus your energies into your mind and picture where you want to go."
"Now, say the words you told me." Tenzin told the powerless godling.
"I surrender my soul. Odin, hear my call. Allow me to enter Asgard's Walls." Thor said the lines, the stones began to glow and the patch in the middle began to lighten up in blue fire. Thor opened his eyes and smiled widely. But then, a small lightning bolt came out of the blue fire and into Thor's chest pushing him into the ground.
"Thor!" Tenzin yelled worried. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah…" Thor replied with a tired voice. "This will never work."
"Trying to make contact with the Spirit World is not something that can be done in one day. Let's try again tomorrow." Tenzin said helping Thor back up.
"You're right, thanks."
"Isn't Korra waiting for you with the others?" Tenzin asked.
"Yeah might as well go." Thor remembered Asami's invitation; he put on his red jacket and went on his way.
Sato Race Track
Thor was led by Asami's butler to a race way, he had seen one of these used for Horse Racing in Asgard, his father usually gave the winner a trophy or a medal. But this one was different; the road wasn't just dirt but made of the same material that the streets of the city were made of. Then two fast satomobiles passed, they were really fast taking Thor by surprise.
"Whoa." It was the only thing he could say as he saw the satomobiles race. He then joined Mako and Bolin who were watching the race. "Hey guys."
"Thor, you made it!" Bolin greeted him.
"Where are Korra and Asami?" Thor asked them.
"In there, racing." Mako replied pointing at the satomobiles. Thor looked at the race and smiled a little.
Sato Mansion
"It was awesome! You should've been here when we started!" Korra was re-telling what had happened before he had showed up in the mansion.
"Sorry for coming late Asami, I was doing something personal." Thor apologized.
"It's okay; we can still hang out for the rest of the day." Asami said as the entered the mansion. Bolin quickly ran for the bathroom holding his pants tightly.
"I hope he doesn't miss this time." Mako said.
"Is there another bathroom I can use?" Korra asked Asami.
"Yeah, there's a lady's powder room upstairs."
"Thanks."
Thor looked around the living room, it was gigantic and elegant. Easily dwarfing most of the castles that the nobles lived in. "What's this?" Thor grabbed a triangular thing that was on side table.
"That's a lamp." Asami answered, giggling at the young prince's lack of knowledge of technology.
"It lights up when you connect it to an electrical socket." Mako added.
"Cool…" Thor said finding the lightbulb on the top of the lamp. After a couple of minutes just talking about the week's recent happenings, Bolin had already come out of the bathroom and joined them in their chat.
Then Korra came down the stairs and quickly pulled Thor from the couch and towards the doors. "Hey Korra what's going on?" Mako asked.
Korra thought something quickly, "Umm…Thor and I have to uh babybend no wait, we have to airsit no hold on, we have to babysit the air bending kids see ya!"
"We have to babysit them?" Thor asked confused.
"No, I heard Hiroshi, Asami's dad, talking through the phone." Korra replied.
"And?"
"I think he was talking to the Equalists." Korra responded. "Come on; let's tell Tenzin and Bei Fong this."
"Okay, I trust you." Thor said following Korra to the Police HQ.
Police HQ, Republic City
Tenzin, Lin, Thor and Korra assembled after Korra and Thor arrived at the police HQ. Korra explained to them what she heard that morning.
"What you are saying has no proof to fall back unto." Lin said.
"Indeed, what if you are wrong, Korra?" Tenzin said.
"I know I'm right, we have to go and confront Hiroshi about it." Korra said surely.
"We have anything on Mr. Sato?" Thor asked.
"Well, he would have a reason to ally himself with Amon." Tenzin said.
"There is?" Korra asked.
"Yes, years ago his wife was murdered by a firebender. He probably blames all benders for it." Tenzin informed them.
"A bit extreme don't you think?" Thor asked.
"It's something." Korra said.
"Then we go to confront him tomorrow." Lin said, giving clearance to Korra's gut.
Vanaheim
It was utter chaos; the realm of the Vanir Gods was being ravished by an onslaught of Frost Giants and Trolls. The War of The Prince, which was the name that had been placed on this conflict, a war began by the arrogance and idiocy of one teenage godling.
"Fire!" The Vanir War Lord yelled, arrows flew into the skies and then buried themselves into the flesh of several giants. "Fire!" He yelled again, releasing another wave of arrows as the giants ripped through the Vanir ground troops.
"We can't hold any longer, if Aesir don't help us we are going to be overrun!" Frey yelled, the Vanir Palace shook from the steps of the Frost Giants and the catapult bombardments.
"Odin will send troops, I'm sure he will." Hrothgar assured his friend and king. "Your sister, Queen Frigga, will make sure of it."
Frey sighed, "Reinforce the area with more Pegasus Cavalry, I want this city secure!" he ordered.
"Yes my lord."
From beyond the actual conflict, a laughing Loki sat on the peaks overlooking Vanaheim. "Hahahahaha! This is going much better than I believed it would. Thor is on Midgard drooling over some petty mortal girl and Odin is helpless as the Odinsleep creeps up on him! Glorious!"
"I want that bitch dead, Loki."
"Oh Amora, relax. Soon we shall enter the Nexus and learn all the secrets hidden within the Tree of Life. Why do you punish yourself with in thinking of that mortal girl?" Loki asked the young woman walking back and forth behind him.
"Why? Do you remember the lengths I went in to make Sif leave Thor?! Now he is fooling around with a mortal whore!"
"He is?! Hahahaha!"
"It is not humorous Loki!"
"On the contrary my dear, it is comedy gold! Once the gates of Muspleheim are opened and the Nexus is within our reach nothing will stand in our way." Loki stood up and grabbed Amora by the chin. "And besides, what matters Thor when there is someone more deserving of such dedication hm?"
"We'll see about that." Amora responded, and then disappearing in a green cloud. Loki was still smirking wickedly; he turned to look at the raging war below.
"Roaring swords and thundering axes across the lands of gods, my servant. Very good."
"Your return is imminent, lord." Loki said.
"Everything shall burn for ten thousand years once I am free!"
Loki's eyes turned black for a second, and then he smiled and laughed at the death and destruction of the Vanir.
