It's been long since I've written something for this. Caught trapped in my own thoughts... Gomen...

I've been debating on where should the main storyline take place because as of now, the main story takes place in the past, i.e. three years back. But later it might be more in the present. So, I was planning on changing the convention . Should I? What do you think I should do?

Anyways, let's proceed with the earlier convention for now:

Present... The one in italics like this is the present time.

Past... The normal font is the past.

It is a bit rushed but hope you like it!

Disclaimer:- I do not own Fairytail. Don't have to remind me this... ;_;

Chapter-8

Engagement

The morning was supposed to be peaceful. Everything was going well. He had Lucy's appointment for the Saturday if he put it formally. Then maybe, he'd try to talk to her and find out how she's been doing these past years. However, something was going to take place that day and he wasn't aware of the fact until Wendy insisted he should have a look at today's newspaper. He didn't understand why his sibling-like was worried until he opened the newspaper with the main headlines printed in a larger font size than usual for the day.

"Eucliffe heir to finally tie the knot"

This was not happening. How can he get married? How did he suddenly announce the engagement? Why? Why did that guy announce it after these many years? He just couldn't get it. Why did he do such a thing?

"Natsu… I… I…" she stuttered. "Thank you"

She mouthed those words after carefully choosing them. She didn't want to give him the right idea so she used a wrong choice of words. Confusing eh?

Let's go to what happened a few hours ago.

Natsu whined about Lucy sitting in home all day and decided to take her shopping to lighten up her mood. Ever since she saw the Eucliffe heir in the party the previous night, her mood was off. It was understandable. He figured out as much that she probably loved him (not Natsu but that Eucliffe, how he wished he could beat him up now) and just because he requested her, she chose to marry him. He wasn't as dense as people pictured him to be. It was anyways obvious. They just seemed too close for friends… just like when he first saw them together (and even now, when the Eucliffe was hugging her). What was Natsu doing then, letting him take his girl? He was standing outside the room in which he happened to leave them alone for them to talk.

They met him in their little shopping spree, right when he was about to lead Lucy to smile because of his idiocy. The moment Lucy's lips turned upside down when they were to stretch a little in glee at his antics, he realised the monster was there. Those two began looking away from each other and Natsu felt it was getting harder to breathe. Of course, he made an official greeting; they were business partners for their companies' sake. He then offered him to treat him to lunch because it was near noon. Though the blonde guy declined, Natsu insisted. It was one chance; one chance for his love to talk to hers' own.

He took notice of their behaviour. Neither of his companions talked. If anything, they found the carpet design in the VIP lounge room reserved for them very interesting. Their heads were bowed down and turned in opposite directions. They rarely made eye contact with each other, forget about him. He thought for a sec and spilled some ramen over his clothes. Using that as an excuse, he left them alone, heading to rest room while pretending to clean it up.

He closed the rest room door with a thud and locked it. He knew he wanted her to clear up those confusion between her and her lover (he cringed at that thought that she didn't love him) but it still hurt. It still hurt to let her go so easily. It didn't matter though. If she was happy, he'd do anything for her. Letting her go was one of the options.

He was so sure that everything would be fine if he was out of the picture. How can he do this to her? She is the kindest person he had known in his entire life. How can that bastard do that to her? He should've never trusted him. He should've never let her go for she'll be in pain all along now.

"Crap!" he cursed as his car bumped into the wall. "Calm down, Natsu. You have to get there in one piece"

He pulled the gear again, driving at full speed. He didn't care if the traffic police caught him. He'd get out of the case. But he'd never get out of the guilt of hurting her, never. So the risk was worth it.

It was time. He was in the rest room for fifteen minutes and staying back any longer would get them suspicious. He hurriedly headed back to their room in the restaurant. He saw them disperse from the position they were in. That guy surely hugged her. He saw it through the tinted glass which barely revealed any details of what was happening inside. He still could make out the silhouttes.

He controlled his urge to beat daylights out of him. Remember Natsu, he's important to Lucy. You can't hurt him.

He opened the door, composing himself as he did.

"Sorry I'm late," he said, hoping Lucy was back to normal.

"Of course you should be. You made our guest wait so long." She scolded.

"Sorry Luce, I was waiting for it to dry. Or it will remind me of Gray which you know is not to my liking." He said. Lucy laughed off along with the third person in their room. It didn't last long though. Their guest received a message and said he had something urgent on his plate and couldn't stay any longer now.

"Thank you for the invitation, Mr. Dragneel. Congratulations for your wedding again!" he wished goodbye before he left. Lucy too stood up and greeted the guy farewell. Natsu watched him leave and then settled in his seat.

There was silence dominating the atmosphere. Wasn't Lucy cheerful just a minute ago? What happened now then?

"Oi, Lucy. Are you alright?," he said, getting up from his seat. He put a hand on her forehead. "No fever. You must be tired, then? Let's go home then. You can rest. I guess we had enough shopping for one day"

He tugged on her hand. She looked up at him, her brown orbs, half sunken in water.

"Natsu… I… I…" she stuttered.

"Oi, what the- What happened? Why are you-" he was mute now. No, he just became silent after seeing her actions. She stood up and launched herself into his arms which wrapped around her as an instinct. Natsu was still clueless about what was happening.

"Arigatou" she said, nudging her head deeper into her husband's chest. She chose her words carefully so as not to giveaway the right idea. But her body gave away what she wanted to conceal. It may after all be true: Your words might lie but your actions don't.

He finally arrived at his destination- The Eucliffe mansion.

The security guard bowed to him and opened the gates for him. He parked the car along the way and got out of it. His expression was nowhere near serene. He barged into the hallways, searching for any sign of life that could tell him the whereabouts of the person he was searching for. His onyx orbs searched and searched till they found their target- Sting Eucliffe, standing on the top of the staircase. With him, stood his beloved adjusting the collar of his white suit, probably for the engagement party. Her expression was one of kindness, calm and if any, happy? How was she happy about this arrangement?

"Eucliffe!" he shouted in rage. He just didn't want to kill the person in his rage.

"Natsu, what is he-"

"Lucy, did you know he was coming?" the blonde man questioned her, his expression was beyond annoyed.

"No, Sting-kun, please don't.." she said, her eyes pleading him.

"I told you I never wanted to see him again. Why is he here?" he asked her in a firmer tone.

"I know Sting-kun but…. Please, I'll take care of him. Don't be mad at him," she asked.

"I just hope he doesn't spoil my wedding," he muttered, narrowing his eyes at the man who was now climbing up the stairs.

Lucy ran down, stopping him midway.

"Natsu, what're you doing here?" she asked.

"Lucy, that bastard. How can he do this?" he was enraged by the mere sight of the guy.

"Natsu, we're leaving. You're coming with me!" she said.

"But Lucy, I have to get him back to his senses," he said, trying to go up but was held back.

"Natsu! Please…. Please… if you've ever loved me…. Please come with me," she said, tears were engulfing her eyes.

"Lucy…." Natsu sighed. " Alright" And without any other word, they left the mansion together in his car.

So, what do you guys think? About the story? Sorry to disappoint you if I did. Why don't you tell me what you think of it? Along with the convention I was talking about. I'm in desperate need of some advice!

Also, I won't be able to update again for about two or three weeks on this though. (My finals are starting this weekend. Although I'll upload one or two Jerza drabbles before that). Thank you for bearing with me.
