Chapter three
A/N: Sorry for the long wait. I am just struggling to write this story in first person POV I think I am going to switch to third person POV what do you guys think I should do?
Edward's POV
Dinner with the Clearwater family had been interesting to say the least. I was hell bent on having some fun with Rosalie but once I learned she was pregnant I knew I had to let her go. I hate to admit it but Leah was right I never loved Rose she was sweet but she was just one of many. That reminded me I better send some flowers or something to Tania, she would probably be pissed that I blew her off tonight. I wasn't worried about it; she'd get over it.
The door of my room opened and in came Jasper and Bella, bubbling with energy as they bounced on my bed.
"Shouldn't you two be asleep by now?" I teased them as I grabbed Jasper and began to tickle him.
"Edward it's barely nine. Shouldn't you be out at some party?" Bella pouted.
"Why would he go to a party when we had Leah over?" Jasper asked surprising me a bit.
"What do you mean?" I asked curiously.
"Well she's so beautiful and nice, I think you should make her your girlfriend since I'm too young for her."
Now that I had to laugh at, "Leah is beautiful but she isn't my type." I didn't bother to tell him that I would jump at the opportunity to have some fun with her. She of course would never be up for that. She was the serious type, a girl that expects a relationship and commitment. Her fierce demeanor was both a turn on and a huge obstacle.
"She is everyone's type." Jasper defied me.
"She is not that great. Did you see how her mom was flirting with daddy? As if! I think if dad is going to marry anyone it should be Esme."
"That would be ideal Bella but you know they don't see each other that way."
"Whatever. We came in here to tell you that dad is in his study waiting for you."
I got up and they followed me to Carlisle's study. I knew he had something important to tell me once he sent Bella and Jasper to bed.
"Edward, there is something I want to tell you."
"If this is about working at the office, I think I'm ready this year."
"You have been ready Edward, but that's not what I wanted to talk to you about. Well…. I've met a woman and I want her to marry me."
"I think that's great. It's about time you stopped being alone. Who is the lucky lady?" I asked delighted that my uncle would finally stop being so lonely. I am a reckless playboy but I was a big softie when it came to my family.
"Leah Clearwater."
"What? Leah? As in Leah Clearwater, the one that was here tonight?" I couldn't control the shock that graced my face.
"I know she is young but I love her and she's made me feel things I haven't felt in a long time."
"Well then if you're sure she feels the same way then follow your heart." I said still not really believing what I was hearing. My uncle was a handsome man sure but too many women had thrown themselves at him for his money. I was worried Leah was one of those women.
"I know she feels the same Edward. She is much younger but love has no limits when it is true. "
"Well I don't know, are you truly sure this is what you want?" I asked not knowing how to voice my suspicions.
"Yes Edward. I'm positive and tomorrow I want you to come with me to the Clearwater home and ask Leah's family for her hand." He smiled so brightly I had to leave my suspicions behind and just let him be happy. For now.
"Are you kidding? I wouldn't miss that!" I chuckled thinking about how Sue was probably going to freak out when she realized her daughter had stolen her new conquest.
"Thank you for supporting me Edward, I know I'm going to need it when I tell Bella and Jasper."
"Jasper loves Leah, now Bella she may throw a tantrum or two but she wants you to be happy. We all want you to be happy." I squeezed his shoulder giving him comfort as manly as I could.
"Thank you son."
I had enough of the emotional conversation and just wished him goodnight. I lay in my bed thinking about my uncle's news. I was wary; I didn't trust the Clearwater women, well more like Leah and her mother. Rosalie was always sweet and naïve. I made it my personal goal to make sure this wasn't some scheme to climb up the social ladder.
I would keep an eye on Leah Clearwater.
Uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh
I woke up around twelve in the afternoon. The house was eerily quite now that the kids were at school. I stretched and looked around my room for my clothes. I found something decent enough and I trudged downstairs to the kitchen. I found Angela sweeping up and her mother cooking lunch. The Weber family has worked for our family for years now almost two decades, they weren't our servants; they were family.
"Good Morning ladies."
"Good Morning Edward. You're uncle is looking for you." She informed me as I grabbed a bagel and began to look into the boiling pots.
"Oh crap! I have to go!" I ran up to my room to change and I ignored their laughter in the background. I changed quickly and left my hair in its messy state knowing there was no hope for it anyways. I opened my door to find my uncle dressed perfectly in a pressed suit.
"Nervous much?" I asked playfully as we walked outside.
"Leah has already said yes so, I guess not. I just hope her family is accepting of us. The age difference can be a lot to take in." he answered my playful jib seriously.
"Don't worry, you don't look a day over 30."
He led me over to my black Bugatti Veyron and hoped into the drivers seat, I reluctantly got into the passengers side.
"I thought Jacob would be driving us?"
"I gave him the day off, don't worry I won't crash your car." He teased as he sped off.
"You don't exactly drive yourself anymore…ever." I feared for my baby as the motor gave a groan due to my uncle's inexperience.
"Don't worry if I mess it up, I'll buy you a new one." I scoffed as if I would replace my girl that easily. I may not be loyal to women but my car was precious.
We pulled up to the Clearwater home and my uncle became a nervous mess. It was somewhat amusing to watch a powerful man like him get flustered. I squeezed his shoulder in what I hoped was a comforting gesture. Leah opened the door looking beautiful in a red dress; I could see why my uncle was so enamored by her, that didn't mean I was trusting of her intentions. She led us into a modern looking sitting area where her mother and sister were waiting for us each looking beautiful in their own way.
"Hello Carlisle, what a pleasant surprise." Sue flirtatiously greeted my uncle almost ignoring that there were others in the room.
"I had already told you Carlisle was coming over today mother." Leah cut her off a bit harshly taking Carlisle's hand in her own boldly. Oh great, this is not going to go as smooth as I hoped. The surprise was palpable in the Clearwater matriarch but my uncle being the pacifist that he was spoke up before Leah or her mother could.
"Mrs. Clearwater I would like to ask your blessing to marry Leah, we are in love." He smiled brightly looking fondly at Leah missing the anger that sketched itself into Sue's face.
"Absolutely not! This is unacceptable! You could be her father."
"He is not my father. And the decision has already been made." Leah snapped viciously.
"This is ridiculous! Are you doing this just to spite me? It would be more acceptable if it was Edward asking for my blessing." I choked at the mere thought but I held back any snarky comment, as I didn't want to be brought into the not so polite discussion.
"Please Susan, age is just a number. I love your daughter." My uncle pleaded.
"I can't do this. This conversation is over." Sue walked away leaving a shocked crowd behind.
"I'm very sorry, it's just a bit of a shock." Rosalie tried to and failed to ease the situation. We awkwardly said goodbye and were escorted out by a smug Leah. I stepped into the car giving them a bit of privacy although I could still hear their conversation.
"Don't worry about my mom. All that matters is that we're in love."
"No Leah. We have to do this right. We can not get married without your mother's blessing."
The rest of the conversation was drowned out when I turned on the car but Leah didn't look so smug anymore and Carlisle looked quite dejected as he climbed into the car.
"What do you think Edward? Am I making a huge mistake by being with Leah?"
"I can't answer that for you but if you're sure you love her then don't give up."
"I don't know maybe Susan was right Leah is more suited to be with a man like you."
"Whoa whoa. Leah and I would probably kill each other. Don't worry so much, if it's meant to be then it will happen." This whole conversation was turning too sappy for my taste. I was relieved when we finally arrived at the manor and Carlisle and I parted ways. As I drove to Tania's house I couldn't get the comments about Leah and I out of my head, she was a beautiful woman. I shook my head of those thoughts realizing that she'd probably be my new aunt. I smirked as I thought of her reaction when I call her auntie.
