I am so sorry everyone for not updating this in forever, I was all kinds of distracted by family, school, writer's block and who knows what else. But here it is, Chapter 4! I really hope you guys enjoy and thank you for being so patient and so amazing.
TK stared uncomfortably at the clock on his nightstand. Ticking down the seconds until Davis would arrive and their weekend of video games and junk food would begin. He wasn't nervous about Davis coming to stay over for a couple days. On the contrary, he was very much excited about the idea, he just showed his excitement differently than Davis did.
He just couldn't shake this feeling he had though. Thinking about being completely alone with Davis for an entire weekend was causing this dreadful feeling in the pit of his stomach, and no matter how he thought about it, he couldn't make the feelings go away.
He continued reminding himself that this would be a nice change of pace and that it was about time to spend some time with the boy, since they had never really spent time together outside of school, just the two of them; that this weekend would be fun-filled and that he knew he would really enjoy himself, mostly because Davis would make sure he did. But that feeling persisted.
The blonde forced himself to think about something else and ended up staring at the clock again. 5:40. Davis had called saying he would come over at 6. TK got up from his bed, left his room and began pacing the apartment, checking to make sure everything was organized and clean for Davis' arrival in twenty minutes. Thirty, the blonde thought to himself, knowing full well that Davis was not one for being punctual when it came to, well, anything.
TK continued to pace the apartment, compulsively reorganizing and straightening things nervously. He sat on the couch and was about to turn on the TV to try to steady his thoughts, when a knock came at the door.
He quickly looked at the nearest clock. 5:50. Was Davis actually early for once? He bounded over the couch and as he reached the door, quickly straightened his hair to look nice. He paused as he realized what he had done. Why did he care how he looked for Davis? He pushed the thought out of his mind as he turned the doorknob.
A mass of burgundy hair pushed past him, nearly knocking him over as Davis burst into the apartment burdened with countless bags. As the boy tried to make his way carefully through, his sleeping bag unfurled and he tripped over it, falling over the back of the couch as a somewhat stifled cuss escaped his lips, muffled by all of his baggage falling on top of him.
TK rushed over to make sure his friend was alright… and that nothing had been broken. When he saw the crumpled heap of bags and limbs, TK burst into laughter.
"Quit laughing and help me!" Davis shouted angrily.
But the boy was left to fend for himself as the blonde had collapsed to the floor, holding his sides in pain from laughter. Eventually Davis had untangled himself from his mess and jumped over the couch.
"You wanna laugh at me, huh?" he challenged the boy as he lunged on top of him and started wrestling him.
TK tried to fight back but amidst his loss of breath from laughing so hard, and that Davis was a lot stronger than he was, the blonde was quickly pinned to the floor, Davis holding him down with little effort.
"Come on TF, you can do better than that can't you?" he teased.
TK finally caught his breath and looked into Davis' face. He felt his face heat up slightly and for a brief moment tried to struggle against Davis' hold on his arms.
"Okay, okay, you win, I give," he finally conceded. Davis stood up and reached a hand out to help the other boy up. The blonde took his hand and was pulled upwards. The two held hands for a moment longer and TK felt his face heat up again.
"You okay TK?" Davis asked.
Realizing the situation, TK tried to dismiss the awkward moment by pushing Davis over the back of the couch again in retaliation. Davis, grabbed hold of the blonde's shirt collar and the two stumbled over the back of the couch together, ending up in a muddled heap on the floor, this time however, TK was on top of Davis.
"Are you okay Davis?" he asked, still on top of the boy.
"I'll be fine once you get off me."
"Oh, sorry," he felt another blush cross his cheeks as he stood up and gave his friend a helping hand in the same manner as had been done previously for him.
"Soooo…," Davis said awkwardly trying to break the silence.
TK looked around the apartment, trying to look everywhere but at Davis. When he spotted the pile of clutter on the floor.
"What exactly did you bring?" he asked bewildered, rummaging through the bags.
"Oh y'know, stuff," Davis replied.
"What kind of stuff?" TK asked as he rummaged through another bag and realized he was holding a pair of Davis' boxers. Another blush crept over his face as he quickly returned them to the bag.
"Junk food, video games, my sleeping bag, just the usually things necessary for a sleepover."
"But… we're just spending a weekend together, you've brought enough things to last you a month."
"Well I didn't want to forget anything," Davis replied with a nervous chuckle. He reached down and picked up a couple bags, "where do you want me to put my things?"
"Uhh, I guess you can put them in the spare bedroom."
"The spare bedroom?" Davis asked, a confused look on his face.
"What's wrong?"
"Well, I mean, it is a sleepover, why would I sleep in the spare room instead of in your room?"
"Uh… well… uh…" TK stuttered, unable to make a response.
"C'mon, if this is gonna be a real sleepover, then I'm gonna sleep next to you on the floor in my sleeping bag, then we can stay up real late together, talking and everything."
TK could see the excitement written all over Davis' face and he knew he couldn't refuse him, "Okay… it's the last room on the left."
Davis turned on his heel and rushed his things down the hallway to his room.
"BOOM! HEADSHOT!" Davis shouted, his voice echoing through the apartment, "OW! What was that for?" the boy whimpered as TK's fist connected with his shoulder.
"You cheated, you bastard," he cursed at the boy accusingly.
"I did not!"
"You did so, you looked at my screen, there's no way you could've known I was hiding there."
Davis turned away, his face beet red knowing he had been found out.
"Ok, fine," he confessed, "but I still beat you all those other rounds without having to, you really suck at this game-OW!" he moaned when TK's fist slugged him in the same spot.
"So what? I don't spend all my free time playing video games, I actually use my time productively, like for studying," he scowled at the burgundy-haired boy.
"Wow, what's up with you today?" Davis asked, rather hurt by his friend's comment.
"What do you mean?" TK asked, not realizing how abrasive he had actually been.
"Well, first Yolei and now me. I mean, Yolei deserved it, sort of, but this is just a game, no need to be an asshole about it."
TK let go of the game controller and looked down, defeated. He could tell now what he said to Davis had hurt him. He had snapped at two of his friends now today, and he had no idea why he did so in the first place.
"Sorry…," was all he could muster under his breath.
"H-hey no need to apologize," he blurted out seeing that he had now hurt the boy's feelings, "it's true I do spend quite a bit of time playing these games when I should be doing something else. It's just…"
"Just what?"
"Well, today – er, well, lately, you just haven't been your old cheery self. And today especially, you got so mad at Yolei. Don't get me wrong, you were totally right about her being so nosy, but still. I was kinda surprised at you."
"Yeah, well, she was getting on my nerves okay?"
"No, not okay. I asked you earlier, and now I want an actual answer."
"Answer to what?"
"What's wrong?"
The blonde stood up abruptly and made his way towards the kitchen.
"Want something to drink?" he asked, as he reached into the cupboard and grabbed a couple glasses.
"No, and don't change the subject, c'mon dude, what's wrong? I'm your friend you can tell me," he pleaded as he followed closely behind his friend.
A loud crash echoed in the kitchen as TK dropped a glass. He bent down to pick up the shards and winced in pain as he cut himself. Blood ran down his hand as he continued to pick up shards of glass, uncaring of the cut on his hand.
"Dude, you're bleeding!" Davis rushed towards the blonde, grabbing his wrist and pulling him towards the sink. He turned the water on and yanked his friend's hand under the tepid deluge.
"It's fine, I'm fine," TK groaned as he pushed the boy away, "I can clean my own cut thank you very much, I'm not a child."
"TK…"
"What?!"
"…Maybe I should go," Davis turned to leave the kitchen.
"Wait Davis I'm sorry!" TK called out, "don't go…please."
"Then tell me what's wrong."
A long pause followed his request, only the sound of the running water breaking the silence.
"Well?" Davis asked impatiently.
"Ok, hold on already. Let me at least put on a bandage first so I don't get blood everywhere."
"Well, hurry up already, or I'll just grab my things and go home."
TK chuckled slightly, "I never took you as one to resort to blackmail."
"Hey, drastic times call for drastic measures."
"Go sit down, I'll get us a drink and I'll tell you."
"Just bring the glasses, I brought enough sodas to keep us up all night with a sugar high."
TK laughed again, feeling slightly elated that the tension between the two had now gone. He quickly swept the last of the glass shards into the garbage before grabbing another glass and making his way towards the floor in front of the television where Davis sat cross-legged awaiting the blonde's response.
Davis poured each of them some grape soda and sat the now half-empty bottle on the table. He quickly gulped down half of his drink and sat eagerly awaiting TK's explanation for his out of character behavior as of late.
"Well?" he urged once more for good measure.
"Okay…" TK took a deep breath, "I've just been feeling kinda…," he tried to finish his sentence but was unable; he couldn't describe how he had been feeling lately because even he didn't know exactly what he felt.
"Kinda…what? C'mon man out with it!"
"I'm upset okay!" he blurted out angrily, "I'm upset, and angry and confused and… and… I don't know what…" he trailed off as he turned away. He felt a hand on his shoulder as he looked back and saw Davis staring intently at him.
"Look, just say whatever it is you need to, just get it all out there TK."
The blonde grimaced as he answered, "I broke up with Kari… and I don't know why."
"What do you mean?"
"We've known each other for so long, and gotten along so well together and I thought I liked her, y'know?" he pondered, Davis nodded his head knowingly and wordlessly urged the boy to continue, "It's just, we kissed and suddenly everything changed. Suddenly it all felt so different. I thought me and Kari were supposed to… like… be soulmates or… something. I just… don't understand."
"What's not to understand?" Davis asked, as if it were the most obvious answer possible, "so you and Kari aren't meant to be together. The world didn't come to an end did it? You don't love her but, that's no reason to get all moody and get upset and take it out on everyone else. Just move on TK. Kari already has."
"She has?" TK asked, rather shocked.
"Well, Yolei's been getting Kari all ready to find a new guy and been trying to set up dates for her hasn't she?"
"Much to Kari's chagrin."
"Huh?"
"Well, Yolei isn't really giving Kari much of a choice is she?"
"No, Yolei never gives anyone a choice, you made that quite clear earlier, but still… Kari's going along with it isn't she? You're right when you said Yolei doesn't take no for an answer, but she does if Kari says it."
TK sat quietly for a moment, allowing everything Davis had said to sink in. The boy could be quite insightful when he needed to be, much like his older counterpart.
"Look… TK, you don't need to be upset about you and Kari not working out, you two are still going to be friends, you're Hope and Light, you're still a pair, if not a pair of lovebirds anymore, but a pair regardless of that."
"Thanks Davis," was all the blonde said.
Davis was about to respond when TK suddenly thrust his arms around him in a forceful hug, the blonde's body pushed tightly against his. Davis felt his heart begin to race. He instinctively wrapped his arms around the blonde, returning the gesture.
When TK finally released his grip on Davis the two boys leaned back from each other, silently staring at one another.
"Thanks Davis," TK repeated his gratitude.
"Hey it's no problem dude," he grinned modestly, "so, do you wanna play another round?" he motioned towards the television, "I can kick your butt again if you want."
"How about we watch a movie instead? I'll order us a pizza."
"Yeah!" Davis jumped up excitedly, "I brought an awesome movie we can watch, it's that new action thriller," he stood quivering, awaiting TK's approval.
"Sure," he conceded, Davis squealed and ran off to the bedroom to grab the movie from his belongings. Action movies weren't TK's favourite thing, but if it made Davis happy, he could endure it. TK grabbed the phone and dialed the local pizza parlour, ordering a large deluxe pizza for the two boys.
"How long 'til the pizza gets here?" Davis asked as he returned with the film and put it into the player.
"Seriously? I just ordered it. They won't even have it prepared yet."
"Well grab that bag over there," he motioned towards a large black duffel bag next to the couch.
TK handed it to him. Davis unzipped it and turned it upside down spilling the contents inside over the floor. Bags upon bags of chips, candy, and assorted junk food spilled out in front of the two boys.
"Holy shit!" TK cussed.
"What?!" Davis asked somewhat warily, he wasn't used to hearing his innocent blonde friend swear, although, unbeknownst to him, TK could swear like a sailor.
"You brought enough junk food to feed a party of people, what did you expect the two of us were going to do with all this?"
"Eat it. What else?"
"All of it?"
"Well of course not all of it, but hey, at least this way, you've got choices."
TK laughed slightly as he sorted through the pile of sugary and salty snacks before deciding upon a bag of dill pickle chips, his favourite. Davis meanwhile had simultaneously opened three different bags of chips and candies and was grabbing bits from each bag as the movie menu popped up on the television, Davis quickly pressed play on the remote.
"Don't you wanna wait until the pizza gets here?" TK asked.
"Nah, we can pause it when it gets here, I've been meaning to see this so bad."
"Why did you wait?"
"Well I didn't wanna watch it alone, I wanted to watch it with my friend… with you."
TK felt his face heat up but paid no mind to it. A large sudden explosion from the television jolted the two boys out of their silence.
"Awesome!" Davis shouted as he began rocking in his seat on the floor, a second larger explosion echoed through the apartment. Davis roared with excitement and rocked backwards bumping into the table behind him. His glass of grape soda tipped over spilling the entirety of its contents onto him.
"ARGH!" he screamed as the cold liquid poured over him, "Shit! I got it all over me."
"Well, just go change, and then I'll put your clothes through the wash so they don't get ruined."
"Yeah, but," Davis sighed, "I'm all sticky now."
"Well, go have a shower," TK suggested, "we'll pause the movie and by the time you get out the pizza will probably be here."
"Awesome," Davis shouted as he ripped his sticky shirt off himself and threw it towards his friend.
TK caught his friend's shirt but was awestruck by the sight of the boy in front of him. He had never noticed how amazing Davis had looked before. His body had a deep tan all over, his body was lean and had just the right musculature to it, and his abs glistened from the wetness of the soda. TK took a deep breath before looking away.
"I'll be back before you know it," Davis beamed as he rushed off towards the bathroom leaving TK with a deep red tint on his cheeks.
He couldn't explain what he had just felt. He had seen Davis without a shirt plenty of times before when they had gone to the beach or swimming, but this time something was different. This time he had really noticed and couldn't help but to stare at his friend's incredible physique. He felt his stomach churn as he closed his eyes, he could picture every detail of Davis' chest, abdomen, and slightly muscular arms.
"Hey!" Davis' voice snapped the blonde out of his trance, TK stared at his still shirtless friend, feeling himself becoming mesmerized again by the sight.
"What?" he asked turning his head away slightly so as not to appear as if he were staring.
"I got soda on my pants too, could you put them in the wash?"
"Uh… yeah, sure thing."
"Great," he said, and then just feet in front of the blonde, Davis undid his belt and tore his pants off, getting them stuck around his ankles and falling against the wall.
TK didn't even think to ask if Davis was okay. He was only able to stare at his friend, now only clad in his boxers, in front of him.
Davis picked himself up and threw his pants to TK, who was still staring wide-eyed at his tan friend, before rushing off to the bathroom again.
TK stood there a few moments longer, just trying to configure some sort of thoughts as to what he was feeling, what was going on in his mind. He had seen Davis nearly naked in front of him and could only stare. Was it dislike? Disgust? Maybe a hint of jealousy? Sure he wasn't as fit as Davis, but he could admit, he wasn't in half-bad shape himself. What was this feeling then? Was he… maybe… attracted to Davis? No of course not, he shrugged it off and rushed to the laundry room, dumping Davis' wet and sticky clothes into the washer.
TK sat quietly snacking on some chips waiting for Davis to return. He kept picturing his friend, standing in front of him, nothing but the light blue, cotton boxers covering him. He'd never felt this way about seeing someone so undressed before, and he couldn't stop thinking about it. Why was he feeling this way about Davis? He certainly wasn't attracted to the boy, it had to be something else, there had to be some logical explanation why he had felt so strangely seeing Davis standing nearly naked in front of him.
His thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door and he hurried to answer it. He opened the door and immediately recognized the delivery boy as a boy from his English class, Kaoru.
"Hey TK!" he said happily upon seeing his classmate, "I didn't know you lived here."
"Well you never asked. I didn't know you were a pizza delivery boy."
"Have to earn extra money somehow," he grinned stretching his arms out to hand over the pizza, "That'll be $20. You… uh, aren't gonna eat that all by yourself, are you?"
"You're kidding, right?"
Kaoru chuckled as the pizza and money traded hands between the boys, "So you're not alone tonight huh? Already moved on from Kari?" the tall ginger-haired boy saw the blonde's face drop upon hearing the question, "Oh sorry," he apologized, "I… just assumed was all."
TK plastered a smile on his face as he look up into the slightly taller boy's face as he responded, "Oh, you don't have to apologize, it's no big deal. Kari and I may not be dating anymore but we're still friends."
"Well that's good to hear," Kaoru breathed a sigh of relief, "so if you're not eating alone who's here with you?"
"Oh, Davis… Motomiya… he's on the soccer team," he added when the puzzled look didn't leave Kaoru's face.
"Oh… I didn't really know you two were friends."
"We've been friends for a few years now."
"Oh… well, uh… I gotta get going or my boss is gonna give me hell. See you Monday, Takeru!" he shouted as he ran off.
TK closed the door feeling somewhat confused as to why Kaoru's cheerful mood had changed so rapidly upon hearing Davis' name. The two boys didn't spend much time outside of their English class other than a couple writing assignments they worked on together, but TK still liked him.
"Is the pizza here?" Davis called out rushing into the room still dripping wet and holding tightly to the towel wrapped around his slender waist.
TK once again was hypnotized by the appearance of his barely covered friend and simply sat the pizza box on the table. Davis wrapped the towel around his waist a little tighter so as to open the box and grab himself a slice.
"So, mmph, who was that you were talking to?" Davis asked as he took a large bite of his pizza. TK, however, stood completely silent, unable to tear his eyes away from his friend's damp and glistening figure, "TK!"
"Huh? Oh, uh, that was just Kaoru, he was the… uh, delivery boy," he answered suddenly snapped out of his thoughts.
"Oh, him…" Davis trailed off.
"What?" TK asked.
"Haven't you heard the rumours?" Davis asked the blonde who had helped himself to his own slice of pizza, TK shook his head as he took a bite allowing Davis to answer, "Well word around the school is, he's kinda…"
"Kinda what?" TK asked, raising an eyebrow quizzically at Davis.
"Gay," was all he said.
"So?" TK replied, uncaring of this new information about his classmate, "does anyone have any proof? Or are they just making accusations?"
"Well, a couple guys on the soccer team said they saw him making out with some guy behind the mall a few weeks ago."
"So?" TK repeated, "why does it matter if he's gay or not?"
"It doesn't," Davis attempted to defend himself, "but it certainly won't make you very popular at school if people think you're a queer."
"Kaoru's my classmate, he seems like a nice guy, why should it matter if he likes guys instead of girls?"
"It doesn't matter, but people aren't exactly going to be nice to him once everyone hears about it."
"People as in the soccer team I assume?" TK accused.
"Hey don't look at me," Davis interjected trying to defend himself again, "I don't care either, but the other guys aren't as accepting as you and me."
TK immediately understood Kaoru's sudden mood shift upon hearing Davis' name, or rather Davis' association with the soccer team and their not so friendly members.
"Hey you're getting everything all wet," TK shouted upon realizing Davis was still clad in just a sopping towel and dripping all over the floor.
"Oh sorry!" Davis apologized, "I'm so used to wearing whatever when my parents and Jun aren't around, I guess I didn't really care if I wore whatever around you."
"Well do me a favour and put on some pants at least," TK jested. Davis hurried out of the room and returned a couple minutes later in a blue sleeveless t-shirt and bright red boxers. Once again, TK could do nothing but stare.
Noticing his friend seemingly glaring daggers at him Davis piped up, "What's wrong?" he asked worriedly, "I always just wear a t-shirt and boxers when I'm relaxing and watching a movie. Do you want me to put on pyjamas instead?" he asked.
Realizing Davis had caught him staring TK tried to defend his wandering eyes and creeping blush but only made matter worse for himself when he responded, "No it's fine," immediately regretting his answer but knowing that changing it would raise some red flags, of course not nearly as red as the deep blush on his cheeks.
"Come on have a seat then, let's get this movie started," Davis gestured to the floor beside him. TK grabbed a pillow and sat himself next to his friend who was practically vibrating out of excitement.
TK remained fairly quiet for the entirety of the movie eating chips and candy, while Davis was eagerly knelt next to him, hands clenched into tight fists that he would punch into the air and scream with ecstasy whenever some amazing action happened on screen. TK couldn't explain it but he felt some sort of warmth being around his overly-cheerful friend. He felt happy that his friend was happy of course, but it was this strange feeling of this deep elation that it was Davis who was the one enjoying himself so much. He tried to focus himself on the movie, but was unable due to a combination of being completely uninterested in the explosive-macho-action-fest and being unable to wrap his head around these strange feelings he was having regarding his friend.
I hope you guys enjoyed and I promise this time the next chapter (and several more to follow) will be up very soon as my thought process for the story has already progressed (getting up to this point was the main struggle). The next chapter is already underway and will be up in about a week so stay tuned.
And thanks again everyone for all the views/reviews/likes/favourites of the story, they all mean so much.
