Sasuke let out an audible sigh as he placed his car keys on one of the desks in the hallway of his house. He headed to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water, relieving him of his stressed condition. 'Another day without her,' he thought to himself. Not long after, he could see his beloved older brother standing at the kitchen entrance. He raised his eyebrow, a sign that both of them were most familiar with - "What is it?" Itachi shrugged his shoulders and proceeded to take a sit nearby Sasuke. "I need to talk to you. Very important."
Sasuke nodded his head. "Okay, well, go on."
"First things first. How are you, my dear foolish little brother?" Itachi grinned to the young man who had always looked up to him during their childhood, though he was sure that brother of his still did it until today. "I'm fine as you can see me." He heard his brother replied.
"Sakura?"
"I'm the stranger in her world." Sasuke sighed.
Itachi gave his younger brother an apologetic look. "It will be fine soon, Sasuke. Have some faith, all right?" He patted Sasuke's shoulder. "Easy for you to say," his brother mumbled. "What is this attitude, Sasuke? You can't possibly have given up, can you?"
"It's just… every second we are apart, I feel like I'm losing her. I'm so lost. I want her back in my life but it's just so hard to get her to remember me. Why? Out of all people, I'm the one she has to lose memory about? I have done nothing but cherished her when we were together! I don't understand any of this, this whole "I don't know you, Sasuke" thing!"
"She needs more time. You can't force something that's out of your control, Sasuke." Itachi reached out to his brother, only to have his hand being slapped away, and the glass he was holding was knocked out of his hand. His eyes widened while looking
"That's what everybody keep saying to me! Give her time, give her time. Do people not think about how I feel every time I have to tolerate that?!"
"You can't be like this, Sasuke. Keep trying. She'll be able to remember you one way or another. I know that," Itachi hugged his brother. "It'll be fine. Everything will okay."
"Now.." Itachi slowly continued. "There's something more important than Sakura's memories that I need to talk to you about."
Mikoto sat next to Sakura's legs on the bed. "My dear.. before I say anything else, I must let you know that Sasuke.. he was a man who was - and still is - deeply in love with you." She caressed Sakura's face. "You are the love of his life, I'm quite certain of that. I am his mother, after all."
Sakura looked away. "I was having a flashback when I passed out before tonight. I saw him in there. I.. I tried so hard to relieve those memory but my head can't grasp it yet. He looked familiar to me but.. I'm not sure. I don't know. I really don't."
Mikoto shushed the young maiden before her. "Take it slowly, sweetheart. I'm going to be honest with you, okay? That night.. that horrible night, both of you got into an accident after having your date. You were injured badly as the car came from your side, resulting in the condition that you are in now. Sasuke was… a bit luckier than you as he only had some physical injuries but his heart.. oh his heart was aching. He was shattered when he found out that you could not remember a single thing about him. I can only imagine how he feels but I can't fully understand that pain; I have never encountered such fate before. But I'm sure, this.. whole thing has its reasons. I'm sure there's an explanation to what has happened."
"Did you know who hit us?"
"I'm sorry, dear. I was told that it was a hit-and-run accident. We still have no idea who might be the driver of the car that night."
Sakura kept silent. She opened her mouth to give a reply but her attempt was interrupted when she heard the door opened.
The moment she saw the figure standing stiffly at the door, she bit her lips. 'It couldn't possibly his room, could it?' she thought.
"Mother?" she heard the figure's voice. Very familiar, indeed. "Is everything all-" The figure's eyes widened.
Mikoto cleared her throat. "It's a long story, Sasuke. You don't mind she rests for awhile in here, do you?"
"I-I.. yeah, it's fine. How-"
"We'll talk later. I'll leave you to alone for awhile now." Mikoto got up from the bed and squeezed her son's right shoulder. "Use the time wisely," she said softly and proceeded clicking the door behind him.
Sasuke gulped. "Hi," he voiced out nervously. The lady before him replied with the same sentence and looked away, shyly. "I'm sorry I didn't know you were in here. I should've knocked." He cleared his throat. "It's okay."
Silence was upon both of the figures in the dim room.
Sakura was speechless. She did not know what she should say to this man. She knew it was the man whose face she firstly saw right after she woke up from the hospital. She bit her lip. She wanted to ask him so many things. She wanted to know how she knew him before. Of course, she did not know him now, thanks to the accident but his presence reminded her of something she was very familiar with. She felt at ease when this man was around. She felt contented, protected and these little feelings in her chest she could not quite explain just yet.
"Sasuke Uchiha?" she spoke up.
She saw the man looked up to her and raised an eyebrow. "You remember me?" she heard his question. She shook her head slowly and the disappointment in his eyes were so clear to her, the way he slouched back when he knew her answer as well as the way he laugh so sarcastically as if telling himself what a silly joke he placed upon himself. "I'm sorry." Sakura said.
"Don't be."
"Your mother explained to me about what happened that night. I can't believe it happened. I-I…"
"Do you believe that we were lovers? That we loved each other?"
"It sounded so real, I must say that. I..I want to know more about us."
Sasuke's eyes widened. "You really mean that?" "Of course. Your mother seemed so happy when she talked about us so I figured out, since I have zero memory about you, why don't I hear your side of the story?" She flashed him a smile.
"I.. don't know where to begin." They both became silent again. "Oh!" Sakura took the photo frame she saw earlier at the side table by the bed. "How about you tell how this happened?" she pointed the picture to him.
"Okay then, princess. Allow me to reminisce back to the good times," Sasuke grinned. "Please do," he received a chuckle in return.
"Come on, Sakura. It'll be fun. You wanted something thrilling, didn't you? Here's one!" Sasuke pulled her arms, dragging her to the Ferris Wheel full of bright lights ahead of them. "No, no, you know I'm afraid of heights, Sasuke!" she panicked. "Hey, hey, I'm here, all right? It's fine." "I can't do this!"
Sasuke proceeded to pull the pink haired maiden towards the highlight of the amusement park. "Two of us," he told the attendant at the counter. "It's your lucky time, Sir. We have one more sit before this thing moves. Oh, but is the lady okay? She doesn't seem excited to get on!" The attendant chuckled. "He's a mean boyfriend!" Sakura pouted and received a pair of eyes rolling towards her. "Scaredy cat," she could him say. The attendant chuckled again. "Ah, young love. Hahaha, very well then, enjoy your ride!"
Sasuke led her into the gondola and they made themselves comfortable, although not so much for Sakura as she repeatedly insisted on trying something else out. Sasuke wrapped his arm around her shoulders and smiled to her. "You'll love this," he told her and kissed her left temple. Sakura merely crossed her arms in front of her and tried to calm her nerves.
Minutes later, the Ferris Wheel started to rotate slowly, resulting on Sakura latching her hands on the arm that was hugging her.
Sakura giggled. "Tall places are scary! I'm still afraid of them until today!" Sasuke scooted closer to her, his eyes and hands lingered around the photo frame he was now holding. "You won't believe what you did after, though!" He grinned to her.
"Oh I don't want to die today! Oh please please, save me from this misery. I can't stand this. Sasuke! I want to get down! This is a bad idea! What if this 'thing' stops? What if we'll get stuck up here? I can't jump from this thing! I don't want to die today!"
"Hey," Sasuke shushed her. "It's going to be fine. Nothing's going to happen. Here," he nudged closer to her and placed her head on his shoulder. "Trust me, you'll love the ride."
Slowly, one by one, the gondola reached the peak of the Ferries Wheel. "Sasuke Uchiha, if we never make it out alive tonight, and it so happens that you survive and I don't, I really am going to haunt you your whole life!
Sasuke rolled his eyes. "Yeah, sure, whatever 'Ms. I'm-so-going-to-kill-Sasuke.' I'll be glad that you would give the honor of haunting me." "It's not funny!" Sakura lightly punched his shoulder.
"Here, take a look. We're at the top now," Sasuke mentioned her to look at the scene around them. The lightings of the funfair were evident, they could see all kinds of activities happening on the ground below them, children laughing and running everywhere, couples who obviously looked like they were having the time of their lives, the roller coasters, the side stalls and games, the sounds of the carnival, the catchy music as well as the starless sky above them. "It's beautiful," Sakura softly muttered. She turned her head to face him. "I like it."
"Hn. I told you," he replied to her. "Let's take a picture together!" Sakura exclaimed. She held out the camera she was holding and faced the lens in their directions. "Ready? One, two, three!"
Snap.
She turned the camera around and they focused on the screen. It surprised them to see a spark of fireworks behind them at the very moment the picture was taken. The screen showed that Sasuke had his arm around her shoulders while Sakura had her left hand placed on Sasuke's left cheek and her right one holding the camera. She had a big grin plastered on her face while Sasuke had his left eye closed and his right one looking directly at her and a sincere as well as a loving smile was displayed on his good features.
"We look good," he announced. "Are you kidding me? This is amazing! Thank you for bringing me on this ride!" Sakura embraced the man before her tightly.
"And later on,we had a simple dinner at one of the busiest restaurants that were present at the carnival. We passed your curfew, by the way. I got madly scolded by your father but it was worth it." Sasuke finished his story.
"That's beautiful." Sakura smiled serenely. She took the frame from Sasuke's hands and looked at him. "I want to be honest with you." She placed the frame on the its original location and continued to take his hands in hers. "You really sound like an amazing guy, Sasuke. I'm not able to remember fully what you had just told me, but I'm pretty sure of you being a good guy. There's just something about you that.. that makes me want to think about, apart of being so clueless of who you are."
Sasuke rubbed his beloved's knuckles. "Take all the time you need," he smiled.
"I don't know if I should ask you of this, but.. is it okay if you hug me?" The pink haired lady shyly asked Sasuke. "You're kidding, right? I'm more than willing to do so," he let out his arms and gently caressed the back of her head, tangling his fingers in her soft locks.
'At least I can forget Itachi's words for now,' he thought to himself.
Sasuke looked at his brother in the eyes, waiting for him to make his point.
Itachi inhaled deeply. "The accident…. it might not be just an accident."
