"No. listen. I'm destined to be the last member, I know it."
"Who gave you authority to speak? Shut up and go back where you came from!" Annabeth glared and crossed her arms in front of her. The temporary truce they had, had diminished.
"Woah, easy there. I didn't mean to start a fight. All I meant to say that there's only going to be two members going on this quest: Annabeth and I."
Erza opened her mouth to speak but Percy cut her off.
"Listen, I'm the leader so I get to decide who comes and who stays. You're staying here. I'll deal with you in three days when we come back and finish the quest."
With that, Percy put his arm around Annabeth and walked towards the cabins.
What should I do? Maybe I should go with my earlier decision to respect him...but I know that I'll be needed on the quest. Screw respect. I'm going on a quest tonight. My hands are itching to grab a sword and fight.
Annabeth PoV
Find something that cannot be found? What are we supposed to search for? Why do I have a bad feeling about this? Maybe the oracle made a mistake this time. Maybe she didn't mean to say such a confusing prophecy.
Annabeth paced around her cabin. Books lay open all over the floor. She was searching for information about a secret weapon, but nothing stood out to her. She took a deep breath, put all of the books back in the Athena cabin bookshelf and stepped back.
I was hoping it wouldn'tcome to this.
Annabeth took out some books out of the shelf in a seemingly random order, but when she was done, the bookshelf scraped aside, opening up to a large, dark staircase leading downwards.
"The Library of Forbidden Knowledge. I'm sorry mom. I know it wasn't supposed to be opened, but desperate times call for desperate measures."
Annabeth gingerly placed her foot on one step, making sure it could hold her weight. Then she grabbed a burning torch off the wall. She shivered, but Annabeth had a feeling that the cold wasn't the only thing making her shiver.
Annabeth descended down the spiral staircase for what seemed like forever. Finally, she came to a stop. Rows and rows of shelved books stood up to the ceiling. Torches burned brightly and cast eerie shadows upon the floor. The library was so quiet, Annabeth could hear her heart beat and her blood pulse. She took steps forward her footsteps echoing throughout the room.
I have to focus and keep my guard up! Stop getting distracted Annabeth!
The whole library was in alphabetical order, with each book color coded to a specific letter. It was an OCD person's dream.
I have to find "Weapons"...W...W...W.. Found it.
Annabeth stood in front of the largest bookshelf in the world. She was only 5' 9". Only the gods knew how tall it was.
Might as well start from the bottom.
Annabeth held the torch away so as to not burn the books and reached out in front of her to grab a book.
Oedipus Rex: the unpublished stories.
This was new to her. She only read the published ones. She read and read and read and lost track of time. Luckily she was wearing a small glow-in-the dark wristwatch. 3:30 AM.
Annabeth cringed. She hadn't even gotten halfway through. She decided to keep reading for some more time. There were letters across the bottom of the first page of every chapter. Annabeth scrambled to memorize each letter.
Death's scythe? It didn't even exist! Hades doesn't own one!
Annabeth was at her wit's end. Here she was in a huge library with huge bookshelves with no lead. She sighed.
Might as well leave. There are too many books. I'll look tomorrow when I'm not too tired.
CRASH!
The book slipped out of her hand and clattered to the floor, once again, the sound bouncing off the walls.
Whoosh!
What was that? That was not the sound of the book... More like wings...Ugh. Why did I not take my invisibility cap? How could you be so stupid Annabeth?
Annabeth blew out her torch quickly, leaving her in the dark, and hopefully whatever it was, wouldn't find her. She ditched her torch and felt her way through the long aisles. She walked and walked and walked. Forget the exit, why hadn't she reached an actual wall yet. She was sure about an hour passed and she couldn't hear anything of the presence before. Annabeth kept walking down the aisles. Her neck was feeling warm and clammy, almost like...
No.
Annabeth swerved around in time to see red, beady glowing eyes and a wicked smile.
It cackled loudly then whispered into her ear, "I always knew you would come."
