"You got detention?"
Jeff huffed. "You know, I blame you for this."
"Me?"
"Yes, you."
"How is this my fault?"
"You should have woken me up earlier!"
"Jeff, I woke you up six times this morning, and each time you assured me you were getting up!"
"And you believed me?"
"Of course not!" Nick lowered his voice back down to a whisper. "But I wasn't going to be late to class just because you couldn't get your lazy backside out of bed!"
"Well now I have detention!"
The teacher glanced their way with a disapproving eyebrow and Jeff sunk lower in his seat.
Nick leaned in closer. "Well next time don't stay up until three o'clock playing your stupid video games!"
Jeff gasped. "Take it back."
"No."
"Take it back, Nicholas."
Nick raised an eyebrow. "No."
"Mr Duval, is there something you would like to share with the class?"
He straightened in his chair quickly. "No, Mr Patterson."
"Good. I suggest you get back to your work then."
The middle aged man turned back to the board and Jeff stuck his tongue out at his back before turning back to his friend."Yeah, Nicholas."
"Shut it, Sterling. Next time you sleep in I'm going to leave you there again."
Jeff sighed. "We'll see about that. So what are you going to be doing while I'm in detention, then?"
"I can function without you, you know." Nick rolled his eyes.
"Not for long. And then I'll be back."
"You will."
Jeff smirked. "You know I'll get you back for this." He looked around the room smugly before leaning in closer to Nick. "You never know, you might thank me for this later."
"Thank you for what?"
Jeff grinned openly and faced the front. "Mr Patterson, can you tell Nick to shut up? He's distracting me from my work!"
The teacher turned around quickly and glared at Nick. "Detention, Duval. Come here immediately after the last bell."
Nick shot up. "But sir - "
"After the last bell." The man turned back to the board, picking up the chalk once more.
Nick looked over at Jeff, who had a very smug look on his face. "I hate you, you know that, right?"
"Ah, Nicky, just think of how bored you would have been without me this afternoon."
Nick sighed. If he was going to spend the whole afternoon in detention, at least he could give Jeff the silent treatment.
