Even though the day is almost over, Happy Mother's Day to all the mums out there!
Thanks to Melbi for reviewing the last chapter :)
Nick took a bite of his lasagne, looking around the overly crowded cafeteria of Dalton. Jeff sat across from him intently studying an unidentified substance in his burger.
"So," Nick swallowed, "I was thinking that since we're not going to be here this weekend, we should all gang up on Mr Pieterson in social studies and try to get him to give us an extension on that assessment."
Jeff's head snapped up. "You're not going to be here this weekend? Are you going home?"
"No, I was invited to a press conference at the White House. Of course I'm going home, Jeff." Nick rolled his eyes, shoving in another large mouthful of lasagne. Thursday was his favourite day of the week just because the cafeteria had the wonderful foody creation. Occasionally Mrs White - the elderly cafeteria lady – even gave him a second helping when no one was watching because she knew he liked it so much. He was really hoping today was one of those days as his plate was nearly empty already.
"Why?" Jeff dropped his burger back onto his plate, picking up four chips and shoving them all in his mouth at once. "Oh! It's your dad's birthday, right?"
"Nope. That's next month."
The blond frowned. "Then why are you going home?"
Nick looked at his friend silently, wondering if he was joking or if he'd seriously forgotten for the third year in a row. "It's Mother's Day."
Jeff gasped, dropping his head into his hands. "It's Mother's Day. How do I always forget?"
"I literally have no idea."
"I didn't even buy Mum a present yet!"
"It's ok, neither did I. I'm going after school today. I figured you'd probably be coming with me."
Jeff grinned. "You're the best, Nicky."
"And don't you know it."
Jeff sighed. "Good thinking about the assessment, then. I was planning on getting it started this weekend."
"Jeff!" Nick laughed. "You're terrible. You're sure going to be busy if he doesn't let us have the extension."
"What can I say, I work better under pressure."
Nick glanced up and Mrs White caught his eye from behind the counter across the room and winked at him.
"Hold that thought," he said, grabbing his empty plate and standing from the table.
Jeff followed his line of sight and groaned. "That's no fair! She's mean!" Jeff cried. "Why does she never give me seconds of anything?"
Nick grinned over his shoulder as he walked away. "Probably because she knows that you forget Mother's Day every single year."
