Chapter 2

Katherine Brewster didn't know what to do about her boyfriend John Connor.

He was inconsolable.

They had been kissing in the basement of a friend when the Military Police arrived.

John was suspicious and wouldn't let them take Kate so he was taken too.

When he discovered that the Earth had been attacked and the majority of its population killed he had blamed Skynet and didn't even believe the Alien attack until he was shown actual footage of the attack and the body of a Jaffa warrior with the Goa'uld larva in the Jaffa's pouch.

Now he just sat and brooded.

Katherine was about to ask John something when John suddenly stood and approached her father and asked if he could start military training.

Then it suddenly occurred to Katherine that all the survivors will have to take up arms if they were to survive the threat the Goa'uld represented.

On Earth Skynet planned and plotted.

With the assistance of the replicate humans Skynet started rebuilding the industrial infrastructure.

He wasn't idle off world either.

On Altair he had assisted Harlan repair the damaged systems and infrastructure in the underground complexes and had even designed a better naquadah power cell for replicants enabling them to travel off Altair for extended periods.

Skynet was fascinated by the Altairans technology and had downloaded much of the recorded knowledge for future analysis.

He had tried to get access to Heliopolis but every unit failed shortly after exiting the stargate.

Luckily the last probe sent back enough information for Skynet to determine that the stargate was now submerged.

This didn't stop Skynet's interest in the planet, it merely changed it priority as Skynet designed s suitable unit that could withstand the water pressure and return the stargate to dry ground.

Skynet's luck was better on Tollan.

Even though the volcanic activity continued the lava that had covered the stargate had hardened.

The use of hardened penetrators fired through the stargate was enough to breech the magma cover and opening and closing the stargate several times brought the Tollan stargate back into operation.

While the Tollan's had taken much of their knowledge there were still several data nodes that were salvageable.

This however interesting to Skynet wasn't the most important recovered Tollan technology.

That belonged to an intact Tollan Ion cannon that through a quirk of fact had been covered by ash and thus protected from being destroyed by the lava.

While not operational having an intact unit enabled Skynet to quickly reverse engineer the Tollan weapon.

With Skynet being a defence orientated hyper-intelligence just reverse engineering it wasn't enough and after having studied it in detail he made improvements to the basic design increasing the firepower of the weapon by several orders of magnitude.

These weapons would be the first major construct produced from his manufactories to protect both his AI core inside Crystal Mountain in case the Goa'uld decided to return and the earth Human survivors on Terra Nova.

One thing Skynet realised very early on was the need for resources that didn't exist on the earth.

Here he had the benefit of both better mining techniques and the fact that his automated mining robots didn't need oxygen or in fact any atmosphere at all to operate.

This made Skynet's logistics so much easier as he could mine bodies that had suffered calamities like Tollan.

If a world had a stargate then Skynet would strip mine it of all available resources.

Once he had the resources and more manufactories producing military equipment then he could contemplate taking the war to the Goa'uld.

One thing that Skynet was very much aware of was the fact that the Goa'uld had massive spaceships with tremendous firepower.

This was one thing that he would have to counter but luckily one of the Tollan data nodes recovered didn't contain technical information but rather historic information one segment in which pertained to the Tollan's using their Ion cannons to defeat the Goa'uld ha'taks.

Though disappointed by not containing technical information Skynet was however pleased to know that his improved ion cannons should be more than a match for Goa'uld shields.

He just had to develop suitable platforms to mount them on first.
