A/N:I Know, I know I'm a horrible author who completely sucks about doing reliable updates. That being said I still want to finish this story, so here is the next chapter that I hope you guys will enjoy.
To be the teacher's pet
Flipping through her freshly made stack of note cards, Rory sighs in relief. She was so close to being done, to being free. There was just a month left, and then she would be able to move on with her life and actually start living it. Without any sneaking around. She takes a small break and starts to flip through the messages she's missed since she locked herself away in the corner of the huge library to study for finals.
Miss you- Logan
I think I'm going to puke. TOO STRESSED. -Paris
Paris is too fucking stressed! - Jaime
Hate grading papers. I hate finals too.- Logan
Colin drank all my beer :( - Finn
I just hid his beer behind a stack of water bottles :) -Colin
She wish she could be surprised but she really wasn't. Despite the fact that Paris herself was somewhere in this library trying to study too, Rory had kept herself isolated. She needed to study. So of course texting had become her number one way of communication. It had been this way for the better part of the week and though she had only had the opportunity to be alone with Logan after class for about five minutes after, she knew it had to be this way. Despite the acceptance letter she'd received from Yale she couldn't just wing it her last semester, she was a Hayden-Gilmore and success was pivotal.
Standing up she stretches for a minute glad she opted for a comfier outfit of jeans and a sweater then anything else, the wooden chairs were torture enough. She takes a long drink of her luke warm mocha and makes a mental note to go for a refill on her next break.
Logan: Miss you too.
Paris: Calm down! Drink more coffee, rewrite your notes!
Jaime: Walk away! You know how she gets.
Logan: Trust me this is hell for everyone.
Finn: Try drinking some water! ;)
Colin: Haha evil.
Glancing down at her various text books she knows playtime is over.
"Okay chemistry lets do this." She grumbles as she pulls on of the heavier books towards her but is determined to go over at least chapters 1-8 today.
"I think I'm dying. Or maybe I'm already dead?" Paris asks confused as they walk out of their Advanced chemistry class. They're the last students to file out but instead of turning towards the exit like the others did, they move down the hall towards their lockers.
"If only it were that simple Gellar. No we just survived the most boring review session ever." The material was dry, and though calculations could hardly be called stimulating but the teacher had a way to make them worse. It didn't help matters that Mr. Mino had scheduled the optional two hour review session on a Friday night.
"Oh right the one where I realized I'm going to fail." Rory stifled her laughter, Paris could be so dramatic.
"You missed one question?" Rory wasn't worried for her friend, it had been one of the harder questions and it was unlikely there would be many like it on the final. There just wasn't enough time to do a problem with that many steps in a hour final.
"Easy to say when you missed none." They reached Rory's locker and she quickly entered the combo before pulling out her backpack.
"Okay and on that note, it's Friday night." Rory declares with a smile as she slams her locker shut.
"I know." Paris answer is not as excited as it should be.
"Remember our pact. Next week is finals." Rory prods a bit more hoping her friend will get it.
"Fuck off. I missed a question."
"I texted Jaime, he's been instructed to hold your books hostage."
"He'll crack." Paris waved a hand nonchalantly. Yeah, Rory knew he would, that's why she'd been specific in her instructions.
"And by that I mean he gave them to Jess to hold hostage."
"Talk about evil Hayden." Despite the dig about her last name Rory's smile wouldn't slip.
"Tsk, tsk, come one we both know we do better when we let some steam off and you have a hunky boyfriend waiting to let some steam off with you."
"I missed a question." Paris pleaded and for a moment Rory almost relented before she remembered that Paris would more than likely insist on a quiz session than independent studying.
"You need a break. Or you'll go crazy and do worse on the actual test. Remember freshman year our Bio final." The one where Paris had had a panic attack right before and had missed the first twenty minutes of the test. Though the teacher had given her ample time to finish the stress of being late had messed with her mind and allowed her to miss more than a couple questions .
"Okay I agree. But quiz session Sunday night?"
"Quiz session Sunday night." Rory agreed because she knew that Paris wouldn't really have fun unless she had a plan of action already in place.
"Fine but you better have fun with your hot boyfriend too."
"Trust me if there's anything I will definitely be doing, it's that." With that the girls parted ways with a smile.
She was so engrossed in the documentary about the famous Roe v. Wade trial she almost didn't catch Logan's comments.
"What?" She asks as she pulls herself away from the screen and looks down at Logan. His head is resting on her stomach and she had been running her fingers through his hair.
"Did you want to go out?" She stares at him as if he's gone crazy because they've been like this for more than an hour.
"What?" Rory's sure she's missed something.
"I just realized you said you wanted to do something relaxing and I just opted for movie watching. But did you want to go out?" She almost laughs at him, he was just too cute.
"No, trust me if I wanted something particular I would have told you." She was more than content with lazing about in his apartment and watching documentaries. It was much more pleasing than rewriting notes from almost six months ago. Cumulative finals were the worst.
"Well you are upfront about what you want, that's true." He grins up at her and she can't help but swat at his shoulder playfully. Knowing they're both talking the first day they met. She had been such a minx then, but she supposes it had lead to something great.
"I just like getting what I want." She shrugs her shoulders before rubbing the spot, enjoying how his soft T-shirt feels against her skin.
"Speaking of which, you got into Yale." Her ministrations falter as keeps talking.
"Yes I did, I told you that. A while back ago." She turns to the TV again hoping he'll get the hint.
"Kind of."
"Kind of?"
"You told me in a text you were having family dinner to celebrate your acceptance letter. It was during spring break, I wanted to go watch a movie."
"Okay? Sorry we didn't get to see the movie. I'll get it when it's out on DVD."
"Rory, come on, why weren't you more excited to tell me? I wish I could have brought it up sooner but we've booth been so busy lately."
"Look you told me congratulations, I said thank you, what's there more to say?"
"Why aren't you excited? I thought Yale was your dream school."
"It is. But… I mean of course I got in I'm a Gilmore."
"We're more than our family name Rory."
"Our we?" In all honesty the acceptance letter had felt a little hollow. Sure she had busted her ass to get the best grades possible, had even endured extracurricular activities her first years in high school to pack her resume, she had been an optimal student and yet she knew how much weight her last name carried. Was it all my hard work? Or did Grandpa just make a call?
"I know how it feels. It sucks to feel like it owns you, like you owe them everything. But don't let them ruin this for you. You know you earned it."
"Is this how you felt?"
"A bit worse I would say, the campus newspaper sent me a gift basket my first week. I had a desk and everything." Rory grimaces at that. Having people fawn over you just because who your parents are, is the worst.
"Do you even like journalism?" She knew he was teaching the subject but maybe he would prefer to teach something else.
"Honestly?" Rory nods. "Yes, which sucks at least if I hated it I could get lost in something else."
"You like teaching. I know I might be biased but honestly you are good at it." He was, he was strict but fair and though he pushed his students it was all so they could improve.
"Thanks, I do. But not enough really. This year was a lot about sticking it to my dad. Not the most adult decision I know."
"Families always do tend to bring out the worst in us." She enjoys the way his body has stayed on top of hers throughout the conversation, and though she's sure both their necks will hurt later, having him so close while talking has made this easier.
"That is very true."
"Okay then, lets make a deal. I get to be happy about getting into Yale and you get to be happy about going to work for your father. Even if you hate him you have to agree his company is the best." She was determined to be happy now, to work with what they got. Maybe they would always wonder if it was their work or their name that got them success but she knew that was something they couldn't really change.
"It's not like we'll have to deal with those things alone, right?"
"Right, together. Together we can do this." She leans down and he stretches forward and though their positions aren't the most comfortable they make a chaste kiss work. The resumed watching the documentary and Rory made sure to enjoy every minute of it. There might only be two more weeks until graduation but the next week would be hell and she needed to enjoy any time with Logan she got.
A/N: Honestly I really am sorry about the long wait between updates but I do hope that the people who waited for this chapter (and new readers) have enjoyed it.
