Chapter 5
Nick's POV
I looked at the wallet for the hundredth time, but the name written in it still was Christian Evans. I sighed. Great! Now we have a possible witch hunter out to get us. I should tell it to Diana to call a meeting. Diana. Do I want to talk to her? I mean I just opened up to her and to be honest I don't want her to know how vulnerable I am because of what happened with Cassie. I mean what the hell was I thinking? I'd better avoid her and maybe she just forgets it. But who am I supposed to call? Cassie or Faye? Cassie is out of the question.
So I called Faye. She answered after the third ring "What the hell do you want, Nick? You're interrupting!" She said with an obvious annoyance in her voice.
"Faye, believe me I have better things to do right now rather than talking to you but this is important" I answered her coldly.
"Okay! What are you waiting? Talk!" She said exasperatedly. I groaned. I should have chosen Cassie. "Call an emergency meeting at the back room."
"How many times should I tell you that I'm busy at the moment! I'm sure It's not really important, anyways... "
"For goodness sake, I don't care what you think or what you want! Just call the meeting! It's about Daniel!" I hissed at her and I cut off. That went quite well. I made my way to the back room.
Cassie's POV
I was in the literature class when I received the message: "EMERGENCY MEETING! BACK ROOM! NOW!". Emergency meeting? Oh God! Tell me it isn't really important and it's just Faye's nonsense. Daniel noticed my sudden tension and asked me "Is everything okay?". His eyes showed worry and they scanned my face trying to understand what was wrong.
"Nothing" I replied "I just want to go to the bathroom." I excused myself from the class and head to the back room as fast as I could.
I opened the door and saw all the members of the circle sitting and waiting to hear what's going on. I sat next to Adam and gave him a questioning glance but his expression showed that he didn't know why we were called, either.
"Okay. Everyone is here." Diana started "I believe that it was Nick who called the meeting. So, Nick, what's going on?" She asked curiously.
"I found that at the hall." Nick simply said and showed a wallet. Chris then said "A wallet? Seriously? That's why we're here?" Doug interrupted and said "Just give it to the principle or better take the money and give it to the principle."
"Shut up, you idiots." he told them "Look the ID inside." He showed the ID and then a millions thought crossed my mind. Why Daniel, or should I say Christian, would do something like that? Were we wrong about him? Is he a possible danger to the circle? Everyone was looking at the ID shocked and tongue-tied. Adam decided to break the silence.
"I would say that confirms the idea that Daniel, or whatever he calls himself, is at least suspicious and the whole thing he said about the witches is suspicious, as well." he said glaring to Faye.
"Or maybe he is just a guy who don't want to give his real name for another reason." defended Faye.
"Faye , I think Adam is right." Diana said without looking at Adam. "What is your opinion about him, Cassie? You know him better than any of us." she asked turning the attention to me.
I know him better than any of you. Oh please, I met him a day before just like all of you . I was tempted to say that but instead I racked my brains to think anything unusual or suspicious about Daniel. But I came up empty so I just said "I don't know." Great leadership skills, Cassie. Why don't they take you to the national army. I thought sarcastically to myself.
"I think we should stay away from him." Adam said "What if he's a witch hunter?" Everyone hushed to think what Adam just said.
"Yeah. It's better that way and we should put someone to follow him and report back " Diana suggested.
"I will follow him." Nick offered. "And I'll go with you." Deborah told him leaving no chance to tell her no.
"Okay." Diana agreed "So everyone goes to your classes."
I started getting up when Adam touched gently my hand and whispered to my ear, sending chills all over me, "I want to talk to you." He waited until everyone had got out of the room and then he said "Cassie, I know that Daniel is trying to get close to you and even if he isn't a witch hunter, I don't like him flirting with you." He scanned my face for a reaction but seeing nothing than confusion, he continued "Look, I know I am acting like I am jealous but that probably because I am jealous..." he sighed. "and I worry about you."
"Adam, I know." I told him and put my arms around his neck. "I just don't feel that anything is wrong with Daniel. Besides, if I get close to him and when I mean get close to him I mean become his friend, " I said emphasizing the word friend. "I can find if something is suspicious with him." And then it hit me: what about the dream? God, how could I totally forget about it? Something is going on, I thought but before I had enough time to finish my thought, a wave of dizziness swept over me and black dots made their appearance to my vision. Before I blacked out I heard Adam's worried voice and I felt him putting his arms around me.
Okay that's the end of the chapter. Please review so I can see if anyone actually read this story and decide if I want to continue writing it.
