Hey! I know I have not written for more than a month, but it wasn't my fault (mostly). I had my school exams, I finished them yesterday and today I updated the story. I'm really sorry I made you wait so long. Enjoy! :)

Chapter 6

Adam's POV

No sooner had I noticed the blank tired look in Cassie's eyes, than her eyes closed and she collapsed. I called her name more than once and carried her into the school infirmary. After Mrs Quinn, the school nurse, had examined her, she reassured me that it wasn't anything alarming and Cassie was just tired. Despite her comforting words, I couldn't get out of my mind the idea that something was really wrong with Cassie. I don't know how to explain it. I guess it's just an instinct. I asked Mrs Quinn if I could take Cassie and she agreed. When Cassie was safely under the covers of her bed, I texted the others to update them for her situation and asked them to come find us after school. Then, as silently as I could manage, I crept into Cassie's bedroom and sat next to her in the bed. I stroked her hair and kissed her forehead. She smiled in her sleep sensing my presence. God, I was so scared and to be honest, I still am. Seeing her like that, pale and vulnerable, was so painful because I felt totally useless.

Suddenly, I heard the door bell and shook off all my troubling thoughts. I opened the door and all the members of the Circle were standing there looking genuinely worried about Cassie. When we were all sitting in the living room, Faye broke the silence and asked: "So, what happened?"

Everyone looked at me waiting for my response. After several seconds, I answered: "To tell you the truth, I don't really know. We were just talking and she looked perfectly fine and then out of the blue she was pale and she fainted. The nurse said that she was just tired, but…" I suddenly stopped. What am I suppose to tell them? That I feel in my gut that something is terribly not right?

Diana sensing my hesitation and obviously hearing my pause, she did something that she hadn't done since we broke up. She looked right into my eyes and said: "Adam, if you felt something, you should trust it and tell us. After all, Cassie's your soul mate and you can feel things about her that no one else can."

When she said the last part, her voice wavered a little and her eyes lowered to the floor. The others were oblivious to her uneasiness except for Nick. His eyes hardened and his jaw tensed. Before I could analyze the reason of his stiffness, Faye, of course, waved her hands in front of my face and said exasperatedly: "Adam, for Christ's sake, are you going to tell us or not?"

I blinked and tried to focus. "I just know something is wrong with her but I can't put my finger on it . If she was tired, I could understood or felt it before she had blacked out. I think that it has something to do with Daniel." I don't know where that thought came from, but the moment it escaped from my lips, I knew I was right.

"Oh, Adam, not this again!", Faye exclaimed.

Then, I heard Nick's cold voice: "Wait a minute, Faye. Conant maybe…" He stopped for a moment what he was about to say.

Chris lifted his eyebrow and Doug looked like he really enjoyed it. Nick glared at them, cleared his throat and tried again: "I think Conant might be right in this one."

Chris and Doug couldn't stand it anymore and burst into fits of laughter. Faye looked amused. I could say that even I was surprised by Nick's agreement with me. Diana glared at them and hissed: "Damn it! Shut up!"

Everyone looked at her because she never curses or loses control. She tried to relax herself and said "Look, I'm sorry. I'm just…" She didn't have the chance to finish her sentence as a scream pierced the air.

Cassie's POV

I couldn't see. I couldn't hear. I could only feel. All my other senses were numbed. I felt like every inch of my body was burning, but I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything. At the same time, my whole body, every single part of it, had turned into stone. I tried to scream, but something was covering my mouth.

Then, I realized I was able to move my eyelids so I opened my eyes. I was met by Daniel's eyes, but the kindness was replaced by coldness and cruelty. With a sudden move he placed his mouth near my ear and he whispered: "Don't be afraid, darling, I will be here the whole time." And then, I screamed as loud as I could.

Adam's POV

Everyone was startled, but I wasn't. I knew that voice like my own. Without a moment of hesitation, I ran to Cassie's bedroom. There she was screaming and tossing around in her bed. Diana appeared next to me and the others came, too. I sat in Cassie's bed, hugged her tightly and caressed her cheek. She opened her eyes and her screams turned into sobs. At that moment, I didn't care about anyone else, everyone and everything was blurring out of focus apart from Cassie who was crying in my chest.

"You're safe. You're with me. I won't let anyone harm you. Cassie, baby, look at me.", I whispered to her with a soothing voice.

Cassie was trembling in my arms and I could see that she didn't even heard what I said. So I tried again: "Cassie, I'm here. Please, look at me. No one is going to hurt you."

Cassie stopped crying and looked at me. Her eyes were blank and confused as if she didn't know that I was there. She blinked and a whimper escaped her mouth.

"Oh, Adam.", she said with obvious relief in her voice . She put her arms around my neck. I leaned over to kiss her.

Before, I could kiss her, Faye cleared her throat making us remember that we weren't alone in the room. Then, she said with her husky voice: "Can you stop with the lovey-dovey stuff and just tell us what you dreamed?"

Diana gave her a hardened look and said with a gentle tone in her voice: "Cassie, can you tell us what you saw in your dream?"

Cassie looked at her and nodded. Then, she started narrating her dream.
